Nice course, great condition for this time of year
Nice course, great condition for this time of year, flat grounds.
Can’t understand why we have to start on the 10th, They say it’s because of work on the 4th tee, but it’s been like that for months, and when I asked at the shop , l didn’t get a convincing explanation.
Well maintained and well drained.
Hurtmore boasts that it is one of the South’s leading golf courses, offering open facilities throughout the winter period and it is our go to course to enjoy a worthwhile winter round. I had played two days earlier at another course about 20mls away, where I had trudged through muddy fairways and horrible lies, competing against a whole host of unsuitable inclement conditions and the Hurtmore experience was just a joy. The fairways were firm allowing the ball to run on - no plugging! Greens well maintained and a good surface, challenging each player to find that correct line to avoid multiple putts. We appreciate all the work the ground staff have been puttting in; fresh sand has been added to the bunkers, obviously helping good club play to exit cleanly; new dressing on pathways and a general feeling that the course is being looked after in the murky days of winter. An enjoyable round where our scores reflected that the course gave an opportunity to stay tight and be rewarded with a fair score - not losing shots to poor lies, worm casts and clods of scattered mud across the course. Thank you Hurtmore.
Course in playable condition, but awfully slow pace of play
Considering the time of year and weather the course was playing Ok. Well, can only comment on back 9 as had to tee of on the 10th and didn't play the front 9*. Didn't come across any really boggy/muddy fairways, greens had recently been aerated, but played Ok. Bunkers were generally well kept.
It's quite a short, open and compact parkland like course, enjoyable enough, though there aren't really any stunning signatures holes to write home about.
Some tees off mats.
Had a breakfast bap on arrival and warm baguette for lunch after. Food & price good, staff friendly, clubhouse modern and in good condition.
*Pace of play was awful. 2h10m to complete 9 holes of 2485 yards, well actually probably more like 2300 yards as there were some tees placed forward. Given the fresh breeze, constant drizzle we decided to can playing the front 9 as couldn't bear traipsing around waiting for minutes to take each shot and spend another 2Hrs+ out there. There were at least 3x 4 balls in front of us who didn't seem in any rush, grouped together to banter, and generally played very slowly (i.e. waiting for the group in front to be at least 2x their shot distance away). The club need to put longer spacing between tee times rather than focusing on revenue as I've also played weekdays and often found it equally slow... Won't be playing weekend again, and had I paid full rack-rate price I would have been asking for half my green fee back!
Good course condition but lots of waiting due to slow play
Course is in good condition and not too wet despite a few days of continuous rain.
The round would have been more pleasant if there is less wait time for tee offs and fairways, as we have to wait for the 3 ball in front who were held back by the 4 balls in front. Few bad to let the 2 flights wait behind us too.
Good day out
As the weather was very wet, the course was still in good condition. Greens were no issue. Few sloppy parts on the course but with the weather I’m not surprised. Bring your swimming goggles if your best friend is the bunkers. Highly recommend, especially for the summer
Surprise birthday round.
Booked a 3 ball for a friend and his brother. They had both played there and recommended it to me to book. So I thought for his birthday let’s do it. Didn’t disappoint drainage clearly on point. Greens fairly fast for mid Jan. Club house could do with a bit of work. It’s dated but that isn’t a contributing factor just something I observed. What was a contributing factor was a nice cold pint at the end of 18 holes. That did not disappoint.
2nd time and will go again
Throughly enjoyed this course, only down side is that due to short daylight our 2 ball was joined with an other without warning, but other than that throughly enjoyed the round. The course was in great condition considering it was 0 degrees
An Attackable Course with Average Course Conditions
Hurtmore is always great fun to play; being an exceedingly short course it makes for change to the 7,000 yard courses where you're hitting long irons and woods into par 4s. There are tones of attackable holes but with the danger of OB and water on many. The greens are always run at superb pace all year round, but the rest of the course (fairways, aprons, tee boxes) can be scruffy. There's no driving range and the putting green is fairly small. Don't go if you're expecting Augusta, but do if you want a fun round of golf and to practice with some of the shorter irons and wedges in your bag.
I much prefer to play starting at hole 1 instead of hole 10.
Otherwise really enjoyable.
Best winter golf!
If you are looking to play this winter then Hurtmore will not disappoint! The course was in fantastic condition for this time of year! I barely had to clean my white shoes after! The fairways still roll and the greens are superb and supremely quick! I even got a chance to see a green keeper and tell him how impressed with the course I was for this time of year! Cannot wait to play again!
A Good Days Golf
Course was in good condition but a bit muddy in a couple of places Greens were excellent and true Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful
Would prefer not to start at hole 10 as it’s a little disorienting, and I can’t see any advantage in it.
A course in great condition in the middle of November.
Two of us playing in perfect conditions in the middle of Autumn. There wasn’t a slushy patch of rough anywhere to be found and the fairways were firm and resistant - no plugged tee shots and the greens were a joy to putt on.
Soggy round but nice shortish course
Was a potentially nice round affected by near continuous rainfall. The course was decent and it is ideal for those that do not want too many par 5 long holes. Given the weather we enjoyed it as much as we could.
As a player....how hard is it as a player to look aftera golf cse!
Love playing here at Hurtmore, short course that offers plenty of scoring opportunities....greens are always good, pins in tricky positions, plenty of different shots can be played!
As I put in the heading....how hard is it as a player....
To...Repair any divots you make....find that turf, replace it, stamp it down or knock the edges back in!
Rake any marks in the bunker, not just the bloody great gash or hack you made on your 4th attempt, but all those footprints you left too! The rake is there somewhere, find it and use it!
Pitch marks, if you created a crater on the green with your first, second or eighth attempt, I don't care, repair it, but a pitch repairer and use it, can't afford one, use a tee!
We repaired on average 10 per green as a collective of 3 people...why because we feel for the greenkeepers, who have enough to do let alone tidy up after the lazy lot who probably get their mum's to wipe their bums still.....it ain't hard to do, maybe the course will give you a break next time.... amazing when you leave things better than you found them.
Litter, stick it in a bin, if you must drink on the course, stick the bottles or cans in a bin, old vapes and litter, likewise, maybe pick up a wrapper or too rather than leaving it there!
When let through by a larger group....crack on, get going out of sight, don't take the mick and play 2 balls...
Golf is supposed to be enjoyable, so enjoy it and make it enjoyable for others out there too....by tidying up.
As I said love playing here, cracking little course, tough in areas, fair in others.....thanks to all the staff.... respect!
