What a gem
Lived in Northampton years and never played it. Great course and very impressed. The course was in good conditions for January.
I will definitely be back!!!
Course desperately needs maintenance
I've played here several times before and this time the course condition was quite disappointing.
It seems like they've given up on doing any maintenance, the bunkers haven't been raked in so long that some of them have grass growing in them.
I know it's winter time but the greens are terrible, dozens of small bald patches on just about every one of them.
Course was quiet so we got round in 3 1/2 hours.
I would come back, but not until the summer.
Always Good Vslue
Course generally in good condition bearing in mind the rain we’ve had. Leaves falling so can be hard to find your drives on occasion. Members are very friendly & helpful. The holes are varied &, apart from the bunkers, holding up to the wet autumn.
If you haven’t played it I’d recommend you give it a go. I’ve played it 3 times now & a real convert!
Lovely track
Given the downpours the previous 3 days I called to see if the course was open. Apart from a few bunkers understandably flooded, the course was in very good shape. It’s a lovely track & great value. Very friendly welcome in the Pro shop & the members are very welcoming too. Hard to believe this little gem is in the middle of Northampton!
Nice Course Great Layout
Really enjoyed playing at Kingsthorpe. Challenging layout and a mix of challenging and easier holes. Greens a little disappointing as patchy in areas and grass on them a bit too long but this is probably down to trees over looking many greens.
Bad experience.
I played along with 3 other friends in a game of scramble, all was going well up until the 13th hole, 8 groups of 2 playing a competition caught up to us and made us wait and they play through, 40 mins later we resumed but didn’t finish our 18 as time was getting late. Won’t be coming back.
Better than the driving Range - but only Midweek
A hotgolf tee time for £15 midweek is really the only way to play and get value from Kingsthorpe.
It remains a slightly extended pitch and putt, It took me 50 minutes to play the front 9 and just over 2 hours from start to finish
£40 for a weekend round is way way way over priced.
Tees are average, greens which used to be up there with the best in the county have deteroriated over the last few years.
Irrigation looks like its thought of as witchcraft
For a nice walk, and to swing a few clubs and get some practice in its great. For anything else there are much much better courses around
Slow play all day
On arrival car park was busy but the 7 reserved bays were not !! The club house is nice and I was told on the 1st tee I was in for a very long game as a society was in front. So I played c4 holes in over an hour and sat on the benches provided at the tees. I decided to miss four holes out as I was waiting too long. . The next players I came across never bothered to ring the bell so even more waiting around. Eventually after they were hitting their shots all over the place I was let through but I only had 3 holes to play. The group I was to join up with were high on drugs and they were also rubbish. So I was pleased to get home and I shall never return.
A hidden gem in the heart of Northampton
I like to play this course it's always a challenge. They have really worked hard to produce excellent Tees fairways and greens. I played after the ladies competition had gone out and everything had been prepared for the ladies competition, the course was excellent. I could not say the same for my golf, to many inaccurate shots so a score roughly my average, no I am not declaring that.
Come down and have a round see for yourself and your mates. What ever happens you can celebrate or commiserate in the clubhouse afterwards, enjoy.
Great day!
As a four ball we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Staff were friendly and helpful. Course was in excellent condition. Thanks Kingsthorpe! 👍
could be better
Nice course but the amount of grass cuttings on the course was excessive, sometimes the ball disappeared under them and in places they were over 6 inches deep.
We were planning on having breakfast at the club but the kitchen was closed until 11am.
Interesting Test
First experience was the worst Practice green I have ever seen but this was misleading. The course featured a nice mix of short and long par 4s. Lots of uphill and downhill lies provide a varied test. You don’t need to be a big hitter but you need to be accurate. The members were very friendly, as was the young fox I met on the course.
local course in centre of town!
It's hard to believe you could fit an 18-hole course into this small area, but it's true. and so convenient if, like me, you live less than a mile away. I've I've played Kingsthorpe a number of times now, and really like it. It's short, as you'd expect, but there are some attractive and challenging holes: standouts are probably 5, 8,12, 15 & 17. I always seem to mess up the last four holes, by which stage one if fatigued - it's an undulating course with some serious slopes, and most of the regulars have electric carts (buggies are also available). I'm often on my own, as I'm just slipping in an impromptu round around work commitments, and 2/3/4 balls always wave me through, which is nice. Members in general, and pro shop, are really friendly, as is the new greenkeeper, with whom I had an entertaining chat. The weather hasn't made things easy for him recently, but the greens were still in excellent nick. Will be back - and one day will play those final four holes in a respectable fashion!
Good condition,, there was a medel competition on in the morning so not many members out on the course in the afternoon
Bar staff and members friendly in clubhouse
