About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Because there is none in the water coolers
Fescue clumps of grass on the greens. Good luck getting a putt to roll in.
Greens growing in - Rough shape
Greatwood has a fun layout for short hitters. The greens are in rough shape. New grass growing in causes the ball to jump inches left -right-up.
Clay soil. Fairways are rock hard, but many puddles left from rain
Needs some work
Pace of play was a little slower than usual and some of the tee boxes were just Sand. The carts need to be fixed as they lock up mid drive and fail to start consistently.
Thursday Afternoon at GWGC
Course greens were being treated but the lady at the clubhouse did not mention it. Main advantage here is the ease of getting on to play. Some players still jump around different holes and pace of place is still somewhat slow (no marshal to manage the situation).
Good choice!
The course design is very good. The tees are uneven and very stiff.
The ball rolls a lot on the greens.
Otherwise, everything is fine.
January Thursday afternoon at GWGC
Course is ok for the value but there’s significant risk of being struck with golf ball as some players lack golf course etiquette (playing into other players ahead of them even when pace of play doesn’t warrant such behavior. Some players often “jump around” the course playing different holes (completely out of sequence). Overall lack of discipline and golf etiquette is common on this course -be careful when you play it!
Good layout
For the money you pay, this course has very good layout and decent conditions. Green and fairways are maintained better compared to other cheap courses around Houston. Some holes have island green which you don't see on cheap courses.
Under Repair
The course was in good condition however, there were several sections under repair. Also, there was a lot of standing water in various areas of the course.
Great course overall
The course is in relatively good condition. Enjoyed my time but I feel they could lower their price just a little.
