Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Weather failure
Left the course on the eighth hole. It came a flood.
Fun Course!
Meticulously maintained fairway and green. Consistent for all 18 holes. It is always challenging to play this course; it is reasonably short course but with many hazards. So, it’s fun to play! One of the best values in Sugarland area.
Good course for the money
Sand traps are like clay. And greens aren’t tip top. But overall good for the price. You can get in and out in about four hours or less on weekdays.
Greens plugged and sanded
Most of the greens were aerated and covered in sand. Basically not playable and no one mentioned this. Lots of singles out after us constantly running up behind us. No starter i suppose to pair people up. All in all long drive and not worth the effort. Highlight was the GPS on the carts was cool
Needs some work
Greens recently punched. Half were covered in sand. Rest were slow. Tee boxes are like rock. Hard to get tee into the ground. Hammer would have been useful.
Fairways good.
If they get some rain it will help.
Great Course
Greatwood is a very fun and challenging course. Fairways and greens are well kept. The greens were a little slow but pin placement along with some of the holes made it challenging. I have led played there a couple of times and will definitely be playing there again!
Impressesd!
I've played this course off and on for years. Yesterday's conditions, especially the greens, were outstanding. Best the greens have looked in long time.
Cart Path Only Hurts This Course
While there were some obvious wetspots, cart path only on this course makes for a longer round that necessary.
Very slow pace of play.
Played by myself. Thought I could go get in a good round after work. Played 3 hours 46 minutes and only got to play 15 holes. You would think that since it’s just a golf club and that is the main focus, that they would have someone checking pace of play. Pretty bad.
Nice
I have always like the Greatwood course and staff. Great deal for a fair price.
Greatwood needs a different mgmt company
Greatwood is a gem of a track in Sugar Land. I’ve played this course for many years. It changed hands to a management company that also controls Sienna Plantation and another course. The modus operandi of this company seems to spend as little as possible on maintenance.
Tees cannot be put into the tee box because it’s hard as a rock in most places. With recent rains it’s gotten better. The greens were terrible up until about 3 weeks ago. They’re good now. But ball washers and other amenities like restrooms are in terrible shape. The greens size has been reduced over the years to save money too. Sad really.
Repeat Customer
Greatwood is a great place to play. The carts have been upgraded in the last year or so. Course maintenance is improved. The course gets a lot of action. I’ve both walked it and taken a cart. There are some holes spread apart, so walkers will take extra time between these holes. Great value for the money.
Nice
I enjoy going to the Greatwood, it's challenging but very fair. Water stations, bathroom stations and the ability to order drinks from the cart.
The cart also has a screen that acts as a map, rangefinder, score keeper and other things as well, like music and weather.
