About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Bring your chipping game.
Pretty decent shape for this old course
You get a little bit of everything. As with all courses bring a good short game. Some greens are pretty small. Greens were quick and true. Most of the fairways are in good shape. A little paint and some TLC would go a long way for the outside. A ll in all GreatWood I would encourage people to play it.
Very improved!
My last round at Greatwood was fantastic. They have definitely done a lot of work to the course, especially the greens. The staff was also a lot friendlier than I remember. I’m glad this place is improving as much as it is because I love the layout and the price! Will definitely be returning more often.
Improving nicely
Overall Course conditions are very nice compared to about a year or more ago. Pace of play was decent but could be better. We finished on 18 just before it got too dark.
Good course!
Excellent greens and good fairways. However, cut grass on the fairways need removal.
Great!
Always a great place to play! Challenging but fair. Sand and greens aren’t perfect but acceptable for price point!
Weather failure
Left the course on the eighth hole. It came a flood.
Fun Course!
Meticulously maintained fairway and green. Consistent for all 18 holes. It is always challenging to play this course; it is reasonably short course but with many hazards. So, it’s fun to play! One of the best values in Sugarland area.
Good course for the money
Sand traps are like clay. And greens aren’t tip top. But overall good for the price. You can get in and out in about four hours or less on weekdays.
Greens plugged and sanded
Most of the greens were aerated and covered in sand. Basically not playable and no one mentioned this. Lots of singles out after us constantly running up behind us. No starter i suppose to pair people up. All in all long drive and not worth the effort. Highlight was the GPS on the carts was cool
Needs some work
Greens recently punched. Half were covered in sand. Rest were slow. Tee boxes are like rock. Hard to get tee into the ground. Hammer would have been useful.
Fairways good.
If they get some rain it will help.
Great Course
Greatwood is a very fun and challenging course. Fairways and greens are well kept. The greens were a little slow but pin placement along with some of the holes made it challenging. I have led played there a couple of times and will definitely be playing there again!
