About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Poor greens
Don’t play this course until they do something about the greens. They have lost the greens with weeds and over sanding to try and cover the poor conditions
Goat ranch
Everything fairways, greens are un terrible shape. Will not be back. Too bad played it for 20 years.
I had fun
Light winds on a sunny day in the low 80s. I finally had success with pars on 10, 13 and 14. I also did well as I normally do with pars on 3 and 6. The only blemishes we’re the bumpy greens.
Greens were rough!
Overall the course was in good shape, but the greens were really hard to play. They had recently be cut super short, aerated and spray fertilized. This made them very hard to get the ball to hold and super slick putting. While I know this has to be done this time of the year, I would expect a bit of a break in the fees due to every green being in this condition!
Decent course
Good pace, didn’t feel rushed. Some damage to fairways, but overall good condition. Greens were super smooth, a lot of ball rolling on the greens.
Fast and Bumpy Greens
It was tough avoiding double bogeys considering how steeply sloped the greens are and the challenging shots over water with a stout crosswind. In particular invasive grass on and around the greens with the hard and fast greens makes putting a guessing game. This appears to be a seasonal problem also seen on other area courses.
Not bad
The course layout is fun and challenging. Unfortunately the course was not in good shape. Greens were very rough. If they don't start treating for po ana the course will be overrun soon .
Warm and windy about those last three holes
This course rarely disappoints but is quite a challenge for a senior golfer on #10, 16, 17, and 18. Double bogeys on those yet I shot 86 and out of there. Could have had an 80. Those holes will create havoc when winds are 20 gusting to 30 mph. Still a fun course.
Great winter conditions
Played on President's Day, had no trouble making a tee time, course was not super busy and had a great pace (finished in well under 4 hours). The greens were in fabulous condition for winter, almost no ball marks. Fairways and tee boxes were in condition you would expect for mid-winter, they'll come in nicely in the spring. Most of the holes are tight driving corridors, but I really enjoy the challenge.
