Greatwood Golf Club
About
Greatwood is known for its white sand bunkers and impressive par 3s, three of which play right at or over 200 yards. The 1989 Carlton Gipson design features elevated tees and greens that sandwich plush fairways and are contoured with mounds.
The 434-yard par 4 hole 5 is one difficult par, featuring a fairways loaded with bunkers and involves water on the approach. No. 18 goes 576, yards. While the tee shot is fairly standard, the second shot must land short of a plateau and might involve a blind approach shot if placed too far to the left. The intimidating approach plays into a green surrounded by water on three sides.
Getting there : From Hwy. 59 south, turn left on Crab River Rd., then make a left onto the other side of Hwy. 59. Look for Greatwood Pkwy. and make another left when you get there.

Greatwood is great
Very challenging course with lots of trouble. Lots of fairway bunkers and water. Greens are undulating but true rolling. This day was unique and very empty. Although generally good pace of play. Josh and Nick in pro shop great!
Decent layout, Greens need work
Have not played here recently and since then the greens have taken a turn for the worse. Solid layout, relatively tight course and teebox and fairway conditions were good. Too many bare or bumpy patches on the greens for my taste. Solid course if they can get the greens back in order.
Greens
Worst greens I've played on in a while. Some of the tee boxes are less than desirable as well. I paired up with a resident and he said this is common for the time of year but it's the only course I've seen with such severity.
Greens!!!
For the amount of money I paid and the greens to be in that shape is very disappointing.
The greens are gone.
I played alone. No one in front of me until the 15th hole and nobody behind me.
Maybe the reason for few players is that the greens are an absolute disgrace. You can't putt on them. They are all almost pure dirt. The tee boxes look like they haven't been cared for in weeks.
A very fine course is being abandoned.
Bathrooms on course are extremely filthy, nice course but they need to fire whoever is or is not in charge of cleaning them cause looks like no one checks on them
Ok
Terrible greens.
Greens 3 out 10
Overall condition 4 out 10
Nothing special. Ok tee to green. Bring a hammer to bang your tee in. Greens not smooth, infested with weeds. Bumpy. Putts react like plunko on the price is right.
Know what you’re getting
Decent value for the money but the course needs some TLC, in my opinion. Greens are bumpy and patchy, and fairways are mainly dirt on some holes. Layout wise, it’s a fun course with several challenging holes.
Potential untapped
The layout offers a real challenge to golfers of all skill levels. Fairway and green side bunkers abound, as well as plenty of water hazards.
However, tee boxes were so hard we broke tees pushing them in the ground. Most fairways were like hitting off concrete, and almost every green was overtaken by crabgrass - making a putt was nearly impossible.
I wanted this course to be improved, it is near where I live - but for the value there are many other courses available for a few more minutes drive that are similarly priced or lower.
Don’t Play
Course in very poor condition, greens were shockingly bad.
So bad, we only played 9 holes and so disgusted that didn’t even stop to ask for a refund.
Don’t waste your money however good a rate they offer
First time
This is a difficult course, but definitely worth playing. The greens are not quite what they should be yet, but hopefully they fill in.
Good Value
A fun challenging course. The course is in pretty good shape considering the freeze earlier this year.
7.5 Hour Pace
Club was hosting a tournament. Clearly did not explain the rules or did not know how to facilitate running a tourney. We were playing 25 minutes a hole stuck behind the tourney players. Marshals were asked multiple times to speed up pace of play and nothing changed.
Most of the course is all right. Greens are spotty
Most of the course is fine but the greens are spotty. Has little islands of grass and makes putts bumpy and can move the ball offline.
The tee boxes, fairways are good. Sand traps are inconsistent with depth of sand.
SoCal Guy
Playing a Texas course for the first time was a pleasured challenge. Great course and had a great time. Staff was fantastic
Bring your own water
Because there is none in the water coolers
Fescue clumps of grass on the greens. Good luck getting a putt to roll in.
