Fair condition
Played here when it was lostwithial golf club reasonable condition some great holes and layout quite good
Nice small course
This Is a lovely course very good for beginner golfers like myself it’s only really a 9 hole course but has different tee box’s for a back 9. It’s has some challenging holes aswell as some easier ones so makes it a good mix to test you
A Hidden Gem
Third time playing here after being introduced by a friend. Gillyflower is what remains of the original Lostwithiel Golf Club.
It's a stunning 10 hole, 18 tee course playing long on the front nine and short on the return. Unlike a lot of 9 hole, 18 tee courses, Gillyflower's thoughtful layout means every hole feels like a new challenge. Particular highlights are the elevated, postage stamp 2nd and 11th holes with railway line backdrop: the stunning, drive-challenging, lake hazard 3rd and the three tier green 7th/17th.
The eco ethos is evident throughout the course with specimen trees, shrubs and grasses framing the backdrop. The River Fowey can be seen and heard from many of the lower valley holes and the accompanying wildlife is a treat.
With deep rough, narrow fairways and elevated tees, this is without doubt a mini Nicklaus-esque challenge: think St. Mellion in short format. Golf IQ is a better tool than distance and ego tackling this course. Definitely grab a scorecard and read the local rules before teeing off as these will save you LOTS of points and protect the various natural habitats. Greens were slow, but fair given the price paid, and although looking quite patchy in places, the four ball I played in all commented on how true they ran. And bring balls: lots of cheap and/or old ones preferably.
There is a portaloo on site, but that's the extent of the facilities, so bring food and hydration with you. Overall, for the price paid, this is perfect for all levels of golfer - and particularly beginners looking for a relaxed, unhurried start to the game.
Good value course and a great variety of different holes
Basic course. Unforgiving, needs accurate play. Unmanned without carts or buggies. Layout is tight with ten greens and 18 tees.
Awesome
Brilliant course, love it, but what a walk! Monkey hill is a killer, been before and will definitely go again. Many thanks
Tough rough
Unique course, we were the only ones playing in a Saturday afternoon. Nobody there just an old abandoned coffee truck with no one around. Read the course notes carefully. The rough is completely intended and any shots off the fairway or first cut us a list ball.
Untaped potential
Great potential but so poorly maintained and not always clear where to find the next tea
Greens prob not been cut for over a week
So slow
Such a shame
Rough
Loved the course ,my only complaint is that some of the bunkers have long rough surrounding them making them a double hazard ,hit a shot on the eighth which I thought just rolled in the bunker, couldn’t find my ball at all which I thought was a bit unfair
Gilly golf
I felt the course fairways needed cutting and in some places wider, the rough is too much as you have very little chance of finding balls if off direction.
Beautiful views, challenging golf!
This course is easy on the eye yet difficult on the golfer. Fairways are narrow and winding and the rough is unforgiving; I lost every ball that went beyond the fist cut! That made the pars I managed to carve out even more delightful. I have played a few courses that only have 9 holes, but the alternative tees on the back 9 really make this feel like an 18 hole experience. I will be back (with more balls) to enjoy this peaceful course again.
Little diamond of a corse
I initially wasn't going to play when I turned up. No clubhouse or anyone there to check in, just a gate and a rusty van. I'm glad I changed my mind and played as is a fantastic and challenging 9 hole course with the second 9 tees in different places. Well worth the money. The fairways and greens were great and the views on a great day were lovely. I had the whole course to myself for the first 9 and the 2nd was my favourite. Well worth a go and you won't be disappointed.
Visiting
Really enjoyed this course. Our group wasn't bothered that there were no facilities at the course so l can't rate it. Good corse for both experienced and beginner players.
Great course, difficult and very quiet
Always a pleasure to play here. Very testing. Very quiet
Worth a visit
Holes 3&9 physically challenging and hole 2 just great fun, but overall certainly worth a visit, we played there five days in a row which tells you everything.
No clubhouse which is a shame but don't let that put you off. Second nine a little shorter but still a challenge. Greenkeepers do a grand job, always friendly and courteous will wait for you to play your shot.
Well done to all concerned.
Very attractive coarse
Would have liked a clubhouse or even a pro shop.
Visually pleasing, good fairways and greens, steep inclines make for a good walk.
Would recommend highly for the location and variety.
Great course layout!!, no shop or staff on site, rough is too much if a ball goes even slightly in you might aswell not look for it. Greens could do with being cut abit shorter.
