Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa - Championship Course

First time playing this course & wow the views are stunning. The layout is open but challenging with some long rough lining the open fairways. We played off the yellow tees but some of the white tee locations look incredible. The 16th hole is beautiful & the hole in one comp on this hole adds a bit more excitement (even though the £10k is well and truly safe with me playing )

Halfway house had peroni on draught which was much needed in the heat.

Only slight downside is having to stick to the buggy paths, this is a really long course & sticking to the paths means it’s still 4hrs+ in a buggy! That being said I’m a lefty & playing partners were all right handed golfers so perhaps it’s just more annoying for me than anyone else as I’m often on the other side of the fairway 😂

Easy to find, Pro helpful, lunch in hotel was good and course well maintained with some very tricky greens. This is quite a long parkland course which I found difficult to score on but very much enjoyed the day. Played Championship course and will definitely go back to play Premier next.

The course was ok, a long way off how it was before the Mac Donald group took control of it. It price (£27) reflects the quality. It was ok for a knock with the lads but I wouldn’t go back, the course looks like minimal

Hotel was great nice staff and the course was in great condition for time of year and enjoyed the round but the staff in the club shop was bit miserable and not really interested in helping especially after I asked for a buggy

Course holding up really well given the weather we've had.

Lots of long testing par fours, big receptive greens and some great scenery.

Course was in good condition and a good challenge.

But like most of these corporate courses. There are far too many people crammed on it. So you feel either pushed or held up. We experienced a group of 4 golfers missing holes out. And they ended up holding us up considerably. So it took far longer than we envisioned to get round. It was ok for the money though.

Really enjoyed this course. The layout was superb and was very challenging at times. The course is in fantastic condition and the greens are fantastic.

From low to higher handicappers this course caters for all and tests you at all levels. I can’t wait to visit again

Grown up playing here and having returned to cheshire I have played here twice in the last 6 weeks. The course is great, condition is average especially the greens. The staff in the pro shop are what have let this place down on both of my visits. They seem to be very condescending and not at all helpful.

Enjoyed the golf, greens where recently treated so lots of holes, which is understandable

In keeping with most courses it was really wet when I played in March. Staff have done a fab job. Really enjoyed it.

Great course, greens a bit slow but good condition.

Found course great, amazing for Drivers as the holes are very long. Only down side the fairways were cut quite coarse, needed to be a bit shorter, found the ball kept sitting deep and the green keepers cutting round the green just as we were about to play the shot, was off putting.
