What a challenge
Lovely course, loads of walkers and cyclists, a few cows and some incredibly fast fairways and greens due to the long period of dry weather.
"FORE" from all directions (mainly mine) but a very enjoyable course and some of the most stunning views you could ever wish for in the UK.
Great course, stunning views… but bring a guide or a crystal ball.
First time playing here and I loved it—weather was beautiful, the layout was interesting, and every hole had its own character.
That said… I accidentally aimed for the 14th green while on the 1st (felt ambitious), and took a confident driver in completely the wrong direction on the 8th. No one stopped me, probably because they were still laughing.
Absolutely great value for money—but unless you’re a local or psychic, I highly recommend going with someone who knows where they’re going.
Or at least someone who knows what a fairway looks like.
Ever golfed your way up a mountain?
Bring triple the liquids, half the clubs, 20 extra balls and a comfortable pair of shoes because you're about to be hiking with your golf kit.
Beautiful course, beautiful surroundings, but expect to have to wait a while to take some shot, with shared fairways and fellow hikers patrolling the course.
Expect to lose at least one ball per round, unless you have perfect distance control. Even then, you may as well use your putter off the tee box with how much the ball runs.
All this said, it was a great experience and an exceptional challenge.
Challenging course with great views
The course had character and some good holes. Some tight par 3’s, lots of 4’s and a couple of par 5’s. Very hilly and not particularly trolley friendly, but did get them round.
Would play again as knowing the course would help with the round. Great value for money.
Great views but total chaos
Too many blind shots and extreme slopes to be enjoyable. Must have had more than 12 blind shots in 18 holes, some of them downright dangerous with shared fairways, horses, walkers on public footpaths, cyclists and public roads, all hidden from few on some shots. We nearly got hit, and nearly hit others. Some greens are so small and sloping as to be ridiculous. Course would be better laid out if shortened and with more par 3s in order to reduce the instances where holes cross each other, currently 12 holes play across another one. Chaotic! There were some fun and interesting holes, with some stunning views , but the constantly bizarre layout became irritating. It took four and a half hours to play a course of 4600 yds! Bar and lounge area excellent, everyone very friendly.
Very quirky but prepare to be a little frustrated
Overall Painswick was a very quirky challenging little course! Unique in all aspects and a variety of holes. However be prepared to have a lot, all beit we played on a bank holiday, of walkers through the course. Most of which take no notice of you playing and will happily walk across you with no care in the world. Even had a family stopped for a picnic in the middle of 2 crossed holes. luckily there wasn't a lot of golfers on the course otherwise it would be chaos. Would definitely give it another go but definitely during quieter times
Painswick Golf club
We Alway enjoy playing at Painswick
It’s Good. Value for money,, some of the scenery that the course is set in is stunning, there is a good mix of par 3/4/5 ‘s with some very reachable pat 4’s I off the Tee , with some punishing out of bounds in places , greens are in ok condition , can be quick or slow depending on the day (Have experienced both)
Very quirky little course
If your a big hitter with a decent short game , would have thought you could really shoot low
Always enjoyable and the windy conditions can make it a lot tougher !!
Definitely give it a go 🏌️♂️
The course is stunning! I'd reccomend.
We came to Painswick golf course as a part of our stag do activities. First impressions were brilliant. The clubhouse is clean and tidy and the staff were friendly, fun and answered all our questions and explained the course well.
The course is quite hilly, but then it is built on an iron age hill fort. Some of the views at the top are stunning! There are flatter areas, it's not just one big hill!
There are parts of the course that are shared with ramblers, vehicles and horse riders. But That wasn't too much of a problem and didn't delay our game.
After we finished we went into the clubhouse bar / restaurant. Had a couple of drinks which I think were reasonably priced.
Overall, a great course, with great facilities including a shop. I would reccomend this course to others.
Interesting and challenging course
The course is challenging in multiple ways but mostly for the number of blind uphill holes but it is more than made up for by the stunning views at the top. Pace of play can be slow at times due to holes which cross over each other and the number of walkers enjoying Painswick hill.
Great course
A characterful course with amazing scenery. Every hole is an adventure. Really well kept and friendly staff and players. We played on a Monday which was very quiet. Highly recommend.
This course is very challenging
Painswick golf course is very compact, after the 4th or 5th whole you have to play alongside a huge quarry where many ppl will lose lots of balls. There are so many pedestrians walking through the course which is a hazard and you have to pause playing a lot. Unfortunately a few of the putting greens have poorly kept patches with no grass. There are two roads going through the course where many cars pass by (another hazard).
I had a lot of fun on the par 3’s, very enjoyable.
There was a local fair going on in the club house which was lovely to see. Lots of local products on sale.
One thing I would love to have seen is a ball cleaning station somewhere on the course.
This is a very very hilly course so it is not for beginners.
Swing and a Miss
This is a lovely course next to home. Friendly staff and very good condition I will come back. Unfortunately I miss this round because a health emergency.
Excellent course. Definitely need to be accurate with drives. Few hidden greens make 1st time a bit tricky.
Lovely challenging course
Lovely course beautiful views some very challenging holes if you've never played here before.
Easy course ?
Not as easy as you might think 🤔 some tricky holes to navigate and well worth the challenge 😁 Always enjoy playing at Painswick
