Lovely Job
Heathy Parkland course with a good blend of holes. Good condition, firm and fast with good quick greens. If I’m going to be critical the back nine gets a little samey but overall I really enjoyed the day and played pretty well, which helps. I’d rate it higher than The Mount, which is close by but far less varied than Penn.
Golfing gem in Penn
Great course in fantastic condition. The rough has been trimmed back so less punishing than previous. Bargain at £30 on Saturday afternoon. Fantastic few hours, love it here ❤️
What a shame
I live very close to this course and it would be so convenient for me to join. I have played this course a few times over the years and used to think it was well maintained with nice greens. I have played twice in the last 8 months and I have to say the place is looking scruffy. The geeens have recently been scarified but were poor the last time I played too. Stones in bunkers, port grass covering and generally just poorly maintained. Strangely the grounds man has put some nice new white pebbles around the hole signage posts so he is at work!
Please improve Penn as you could be so good. Course layout is nice and the club generally has a small friendly feel. Shame about the course.
Pointless booking tee times!!!
A nice course and in great condition for the time of year, unfortunately let down by 2 elements:
You book a tee time only turn up to find there is no tee booking system! Members turn up and put their ball in shoot to secure their place to tee off, however there is no shoot!!!
We were greeted by what can only be described as “snobbish members” telling us that our tee time didn’t stand because there isn’t the above mentioned booking system and we’d have to join the queue… why accept booking via Golf Now then??
Great tester
This is a great course with interesting holes and great views . The greens are especially testing and overall it's a great course to play. However please be aware that the club doesn't have booked tee times, it's turn up and play via a shooter system. The problem is that the shooter isn't actually there and members just turn up and queue. This is fine but causes issues when you have booked a specific tee time through golf now.
On the whole members are friendly but the club as a whole left us with an aloof impression.
Don't let this out you off though as it's a testing course and a great experience to play.
Fast greens, friendly but poor in other areas.
Overall, I'd be interested in returning to Penn GC in the summer. The greens were incredibly fast, and some holes were truly fantastic, though playing temporary greens unfortunately detracted from the experience. However, the biggest disappointment was the mandatory use of fairway mats, which significantly impacted the enjoyment of the round. The practice facilities were also quite basic, offering only a putting green and some nets.
Tough course
Friendly enough. Tough course, not vey forgiving. Greens very fast.
Great course! Friendly members!
Very welcoming course! Great course and very well kept! The members were very friendly and the course was in great condition.
Rude staff did not even get to play round
Upon arriving, I checked in at the reception desk where I was told “I don’t know a single private club in the country that would let you wear those shorts,” and for reference these shorts were smart, black, shorts but the issue lay as they were not buckled.
I was then told that my friend must also check in, which is understandable, however they then also told him “I don’t know a single private club in the country that would let you wear those shoes” which again was somewhat understandable as he was not wearing golf shoes.
However, as we were in the Pro Shop having this conversation, surely it would have made sense to be offered to buy one of the many pairs of shoes from the wall behind my friend. This was not the case and the two of us were turned away purely because of my friends footwear.
The tone of which we were spoken to left us feeling belittled and offended.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand there is an etiquette in golf, which we adhere to at every other golf club, and to be spoken to in such manor, we will not be going back.
In addition to this I have failed to get my money back, despite not playing a round at all.
Great Course
Brilliant course. Pro shop friendly. I was a solo player so caught lots of 4 balls up but they waved me through no problem. Great layout and it being June, in fantastic condition.
Great Course
Nice course to play, very well kept and fairways short greens excellent!! My game was spoilt by the good old English weather but will defiantly return!!
Worth a visit
Really nice course, I'll start with getting there. You go down a lane that's got some deep and big pot holes, go to the end and turn right. Satnav was telling me to turn round. Secondly, we booked on golf now app, taking a 12.20 tee off time. When we got there, we were told by the pro shop that they only let visitors on after 13.00. On this occasion they let us play.
The club and course are really nice, pleasant staff, lovely course, well worth a visit. Very flat.
Don’t bother
As soon as we arrived the staff were telling us not to use Golf Now and come direct to them
Then they said we couldn’t use electric trolley. I understand that usually but the ground was frozen over and we couldn’t get a tee in the ground
Then as we were approaching the first tee a member of staff ran over to us and said we had to use mats on the fairway. again totally ridiculous as the ground was rock hard
No wonder that we only saw another 4 people on the whole course
Excellent
A good days golf on an interesting course which is a good test for all levels of golfer
Good course
We played at 4.40 which I would avoid in future as it seemed very busy before it went quiet. I think some members were in a medal and were not particularly friendly as they were in a competition
