Slow and no Marshall ?
Due to COVID restrictions and only 2 balls being allowed you would of thought the pace of play would be better but No Marshall on the first tee meant we tee’d of around half hour later than we was supposed too. after finishing the first hole there was another group playing the second hole and a further 2 groups waiting to tee off before us. Meaning there was 4 groups on the second hole already.
By around the 4h or 5th hole we did see a Marshall, unfortunately he mentioned nothing about the pace of play and was only concerned with finding out if we was playing in a 4 ball as the group behind us was waiting with us on every tee also.
In the end we played 12 holes and walked back to the car park as day light was fading and we didn’t want to walk further away from the clubhouse. Very disappointed in this as we booked a 12:30 tee off and sunset was at about 4 so 3.5 hours should have been plenty of time to get round in a 2 ball.
Atrocious condition
Played here yesterday and after queueing to tee off was appalled how they would charge and let golfers on the course, mud mud and more mud, fairways, waterloged, greens all lumpy avoid at all costs, save your money
Thanks for your comment.
With most courses in the area closed during December, we did our best to stay open when possible. Our head green keeper checked the course (including the greens obviously) each morning and we implemented a carry only policy to enable golfers to play if possible. Lets face it, there was not much else you could do in tier 4 restrictions and most of our golfers were pleased to be able to play a few holes outside with one other companion.
Nonetheless, the better weather and enforced rest has now left the course in great condition so we'd love to welcome you back if and when COVID restrictions allow.

Unplayable condition....
The course layout was fine and the staff more than friendly . Unfortunately the course is so muddy and water logged it’s unplayable. I understand the club need the revenue but it was overbooked with 6 sets of 2 balls waiting on the tee behind us. It’s a shame as the layout is good, if the same amount of footfall continues the course will take months to recover. Maybe we will try again in the autum...
Thank you for taking the time to comment. As I'm sure you can appreciate, we have been extremely busy during the times we've been able to open over the last 12 months. We do our best to accommodate all golfers and there have been many new people take up this great sport during the pandemic.
We have followed the guidelines regarding restrictions throughout the pandemic, however unfortunately some individuals have felt that they were outside out the rules and have tried to play in 3/4 balls causing play to slow.
Our tee times have always been managed using the BRS system with all players registered and checked-in at their appropriate time. There were however times when we were just extremely busy and the play was slow. I'm pleased to say that the vast majority of players were just glad for the opportunity to be outside playing golf and were understanding of our efforts. Lets hope that this year brings some normality to our sport and lives in general. We'd love to welcome you back to experience the club/course now that we are moving forward from the pandemic and can focus our efforts back on the course condition and service provided rather than the constant challenges and changes enforced in the last year .

VERY slow play
This is a course which a friend and I have played a number of times before, however yesterday we became very frustrated with 2-balls in front of us who clearly had little care for any rules put in place. After a few holes, we could see at least three sets of 4-balls in front of us and this slowed up play to the point where it took us SIX HOURS to finish!! We weren’t impressed.

Winter golf in a pandemic
A warm welcome was followed by a 30 minute wait at the first tee which meant we were 20 mins late teeing off from our booked time.
The course was very wet, no temporary greens but the greens were average for the time of year.
The road noise from the M25 became very loud for three holes.
I would imagine in the summer the course would be much more pleasant, so these comments have to be taken in context with the time of the year.
Thank you for your comments and understanding. Given the situation over the last 12 months, it has been very challenging! We hope you will visit in better times and give us a better review.

Over an hour on the first tee
Course was in reasonable nick given the amount of rain we’ve had. But very disappointing to see they had tee times set just 5 minutes apart. We arrived at the first tee 5 minutes before we were due to go off and stood in a queue of 8 groups, meaning it took over 50 minutes to get away, and was slow for the few holes we managed to play before it got dark.
Very disappointing, and the 5 min tee times is clearly the course trying to grab as many green fees as they can, at the least this is against the spirit of what the tier 4 restrictions are set out to achieve, at worse you could argue outright dangerous.

Disgraceful
I am shocked that Golf Now keep this course on their lists, and the course itself is not the problem. On arrival at the 1st tee, there was a queue of at least 8 groups in front of us waiting to tee off. It seems they have overbooked and crammed everyone in like sardines. Aside from being a Covid danger, this made the pace of play glacial. We started half an hour after our booked time and played 9 holes in 3 hours and were then forced to walk in because of darkness. Honestly it was an awful experience. A shame really as the course seems very decent.
Having read some other recent reviews, this seems to be a recurring theme and something needs to be done about it

Overbooked
No organisation at all on the first tee. Queued for 25 minutes behind 4 other groups waiting to go so started way past my tee time and then the course was so crowded that I had to wait at least 10 minutes at every tee after that. I understand the need to make as much money as possible due to the virus but this was a joke. Only managed 9 holes in 3 hours and gave up.

Little gem
Second time we played this course, the first time was in the summer, so we didn’t know what to expect as we have had so much rain, we both agreed that for the £20 we paid it was excellent value for money, and you couldn’t fault the greens. We will most definitely come back again.
Good condition
The fairways and greens were in good condition considering the amount of rain that has fallen in recent weeks. Very muddy in parts of rough and walkways but can’t really be helped. Decent value at £20 on a midweek round.
Great morning at Stapleford Abbotts
Stapleford Abbotts provides a good challenge to the higher handicap golfer with a number of lakes and streams throughout the course.
When we arrived the staff warned us it was wet and water proofs were needed which worried me slightly but having played at other courses recently which were in terrible shape - flooded and muddy - SA was is great condition. Few slightly flooded spots on fairways and some bunkers had turned into small ponds but overall the condition of the course was great. The greens were is great condition considering how much rain we have had. Water proof shoes are defo recommended though!
Pace of play perfect with us going out first and making the most of the clocks changing and the early light. At £17 for a round on golfnow it was great value.
Good value for money
At the price I paid (£23 for 18 holes) i thought this course was spot on. It was in decent condition, the ball ran properly on the fairways and the greens were nice and putted well for the price. It's a short course but it's well designed so that you still need to think your way around it a bit. I played with a friend who is just getting into golf and it was perfect for that. Probably a little easy for anyone below 18 handicap (i ahot below handicap playing it first time and played ok but not great) but a nice course at a good price.
Too busy and too slow
Tee off at 13:20 delayed by 15 minutes. Did not finish till 18:15 due to slow play. Course was fun , interesting layout. Some holes very near main arterial, so noisy.
Lovely round of golf
Always a good test. It's a good track with many interesting holes. Good greens (much better than some others i've seen lately). Good practice area. I'll definitely return. (Did have to call the clubhouse to get the fourball ahead to hurry up - and credit to them they came out to sort it). Shot 80.
Course not managed !
Played this course several times, but today was really bad. Got to 1st tee & 6 groups were in line, all asking each others tee times, but should have, 1 of the 5 staff we saw when we went in to clubhouse up at 1st tee making sure people were going off in correct times. After teeing off 20 minutes late , took overv 41/2 hours & waited on every hole.
Think they are just booking in far too many time slots & no one out on the course managing it ! Nice course, will play during the week in future.
