This course needs a new green keeper & Management
Played here a few times in the past - last time was about 2015. It was always pretty decent and reasonably well kept.
It was always the kind of standard you would expect on a society or work golf day with a nice modern club house, Driving Range and usual facilities.
It now however is the standard of a holiday style 'pitch & Putt' course.
The greens are half bald/Muddy area.
The Bunkers had zero sand in them. They were full of stones.
The rough was not managed - it was all overgrown and uncut (i.e miss the fairway - loose a ball)
The signage was poor and hard to navigate.
There was stuff by one of the greens where someone had lit a fire.
The tee boxes were uneven and un-kept.
The 1st hole was not even a hole. After we finally found it we decided not to even play it as it was a 'mound of grass' behind the rough. Clearly a temp hole but not mention of it before seeing it.
The toilets smelt.
Waste of time.
Mismanaged course
Played at Stockley park after about 6 months and was very disappointed with the condition of the course. Seems to have detiourated from Bad to worse.
The course layout is great but seems to be mismanaged. Greens were in very bad shape, bunkers had little or no sand at all.
Empty beer bottles, food wrappers litered almost every tee.
On the 18 holes, only 3-4 ball washers were functional.
Saw other golfers on the course wearing jogging shorts and collarless t-shirts.
On the whole very disappointed.
Lots of work going on , 1st hole is a joke 60yards par 3 badly sign for direction of next hole also yardage was very poor.
Apart from first hole. . . . . surprisingly good course
Not what we had expected given our previous visit but a lot of work has obviously done to improve both fairways and greens. There is still work going on/about certain holes but we felt pleasantly surprised overall. On the down side the greens are super fast and bunkers are without sand!
Okay, but needs a bit of looking after
I've played here a few times and on this latest round it felt as if the course had deteriorated somewhat. Tee boxes were patchy, some bunkers had very little sand in, greens were patch and putts bobbled.
Charging full price whilst the 1st is being re-done doesn't sit well with me, doubt I'll be back until the permanent hole is complete (which seems to have taken well over a year so far...)
Other reviews mention the staff not being great - I've always found the staff to be nothing but friendly and helpful so maybe it depends who's on when you play.
The course is interesting, re the layout - yes, there is a walk between some holes but I personally don't have an issue with this. The course is challenging but forgiving enough for a mid/high handicapper like me.
A pretty miserable experience
Arrived to be met by a couple of surly girls in reception.
Headed for the first tee which required a 200 yard walk through a construction site. After the effort we were rewarded by a mat as a tee box for a nasty little 110 yard hole. Looks like this is a temporary arrangement while they build a new 1st hole next to it. The next hole was another 2-300 yard walk over a motorway bridge which of course we had to recross later in the round.
Most holes required a fairly lengthy walk from green to the next tee so if you like walking a golf course this is not the one to play. Greens were lumpy and random to putt on. Fairways and tee boxes were also poor quality.
Amenities at the "club house" are negligible. A few chairs and tables and a nasty bar (served by the aforementioned surly women. The course itself is nestled in amongst a series of unpleasant roads and roundabouts near Heathrow airport and the clubhouse is a sort of concrete lump.
On the plus side, it was cheap but that still did not make it good value for money.
With decent management, completion of the new first hole, decent greenkeeping, and summer weather, it is possible that this course would be worth playing as the basic layout is fine. Currently it has none of the above.
Unpleasant and unfriendly
If you are planning on playing this course, you are better off driving to Heathrow and trying to play on the runway as I'm sure that the airport security staff will be more inviting and friendly that the staff at Stockley Park. Course was in poor condition and the first hole is a construction site. The only glimmer of hope for this course was the good breakfast!
Why have bunkers if you don't put sand in them!
I'm glad to say most of the grass under the trees have been cleared making it so much quicker to find your ball. How much does sand cost? Come on, its poor and looks cheap when courses don't put sand in bunkers. It will get a higher score for course layout when you open up the new 1st hole. Which at the moment is a joke.
Fantastic condition for time of year!
An excellent round of golf. Played this course a few times now and this was the best I've seen it. The fairways were immaculate, greens all ran true, the only negative was the bunkers, please put more sand into them as a lot of them were hard and stoney.
Hole 1 is still being renovated so there is a temporary par 3 playing of a mat, however all 17 other holes were prefect. The new hole 1 is opening in July 2017
