Brilliant Branston
This is a top course presented in great condition. Not much to fault. The golf shop staff deserves a special mention too for being very accommodating and helpful. If you haven’t played it and are considering playing it don’t hesitate … you will love it.
Great facilities, poor condition
Played as a 4 ball today. The facilities on the complex are very good - TopTracer Range etc.
The clubhouse is nice and the pre-round bacon sandwich was very good. The bar was also well stocked for a drink afterwards and all of the staff were lovely.
Unfortunately the course was a different story. The design of the course is nice and there are some great holes, with plenty of water hazards and points of interest! The greens were very soft and receptive, but the fairways and tee boxes were atrocious.
Most tee boxes were burnt out and covered in divots. The fairways are lacking irrigation and so they were very burnt and rock hard - Most iron shots felt like hitting off concrete. It felt like virtually every approach shot was a terrible lie. The bunkers also let the course down, they were scruffy and didn’t have much sand in them. For a championship course, I’d have hoped for a bit better.
The chap in the lodge was a bit of a grump - we asked if we could play off the whites, to which he said no it had to be yellows, which is fair enough, but then followed up to say that there were members out on the course and that he’d know if we switched to the whites after the first. We didn’t and never intended to, we played off the yellows all the way around, and tbf, most holes it was the same terrible tee box anyway!
Finally, the green staff were out in force and had absolutely no consideration for the players on the course - eg continuing to mow the apron on the green when we’re putting out, as opposed to most places where they’ll stop and let you finish off before carrying on.
Overall the set-up they have is great, and I appreciate it’s been a hot summer, but we’ve played a lot of other courses that have handled it absolutely fine, so that shouldn’t really be an excuse.
Very Disappointing
Conditions of course was very poor. Tees bare with divots and little care. Fairways patchy. Greens ok. Starter was rude and unfriendly. “Who are you?” was the welcome and then abrupt one word responses when we tried to engage him further.
A real shame as the rest of the complex is welcoming and clearly well run but being let down by its golf facilities. We won’t be rushing back.
Poor Condition
Really disappointed with the state of the course. Bare tees, fairways patchy. Greens ok. Unfriendly welcome from golf starter. Other facilities excellent but the course and golf experience let the place down. We won’t be returning.
Brilliant course
We arrived and warmed up at the driving range the facilities there was really good then continued on to play golf and was impressed at the overall condition of course and value for money finished off with a drink on the decking will definitely go back
Great course, greens need work
Loved the Branston. Great facilities and setting. Some of the holes are really challenging and give a great test.
Unfortunately the greens were really disappointing. Extremely bobbly and uneven. Not sure if this is in keeping with what they should be like at the end of April, but every putt was an adventure.
Good Challenge
Quite a lot of water hazards around the course but most re easily avoided. Fairways wide and forgiving. Lots of ditches across the holes but all easily identified by the small brick bridges
We enjoyed our round and will return again this week.
18th finishes in front of the clubhouse with a pond in front so I nice way to finish.
Very impressed
Course conditions were brilliant! Considering where it was about 3 months ago Branston looks to be getting back on track to where it was condition wise. Fairways, rough and greens were lovely. A good challenging course!
Disappointing
Arrived early, clubhouse excellent. Great lunch, friendly staff. Confirmed arrival at Golf hut and was told to start when we were ready. All great.
Course is disappointing. Greens I’m good condition, tees and fairways average. Generally, the course is scruffy and a little untidy at x except the 1st and 18th.
We expected more. Photographs on website looked amazing.
Awful condition
I have played Branston many times and it was always one of my favourite courses. The off course facilities are superb, and on a nice sunny summers day, like yesterday, the whole experience takes some beating.
Yesterday though was a complete and utter disappointment. The fairways should GUR. Yes we have had a dry summer, but the fairways were so bad, that the course should have been closed. To charge visitors £40.00 is an absolute joke for a course that is in such poor condition.
In the last two weeks this is the fourth different course we have played. I would expect hard ground and dry patches as on the other courses but these fairways were bare, cracked and like playing on concrete.
AVOID
Nice course
Unfortunately we had to play off mats. And you need to purchase a piece of matting to play off. £5. Would go back when they play off regular tees
A beautiful sunny day in ideal location
The course has matured very well- wide open fairways, good greens but lots of water to lose balls! Very enjoyable day out and you will enjoy the setting and facilities.
Good set up
Some tricky holes front nine and plenty of long holes especially on back nine but relatively flat track only made more interesting by use of water features most notably on signature 18th up to what is very impressive clubhouse set up. Greens whilst quite fast need some work. Overall reasonable value but some better courses in the area that are cheaper to play
