Very poor GC
Very very slow play. Teed off at 11.24 finished at 16.35.
Every tee bar the 1st 3 groups were waiting.
Spoke to the pro shop on the 4th hole explained what was happening was told someone would come out never happened.
Tee boxes uneven and bare, course genuinely looked old and not cared for. No standards whatsoever felt like course was a poor 3rd choice and more let’s keep making money.
Will NEVER go back to play there again.
Would not pay to come and play here
Firstly very very slow play. 1hr 55 minutes to complete 4 holes on the Lakeland course. Every tee box 3 groups waiting.
Secondly when we finished the front 9 holes we had then to wait to carry on our back 9 because off people who booked the tee times. Why do we in a current round not get to carry on the round and take precedence.
All in all we teed off at 11.24 and finished 16.35.
5hrs and 11 minutes to play.
Course condition was poor except the greens which were fantastic. Tee boxes bare and uneven, bunkers stones galore
overall the course looked old and not cared for.
Very disappointing.
Problem with booking in
I booked and paid for a 10.04am tee time for 4 golfers, and received a reservation confirmation email from GolfNow 404325571. Part of the confirmation email said 'Dorset Golf & Country Club looks forward to seeing you on Monday, May 5, 2025!'
We got to the club at 9.00am only to be told that we did not have a tee time. The Pro said that this was a request for a tee time but not a confirmed tee time. He was very surprised because they course has been fully booked for weeks.
The golf Pro tried to just send us away but as this was part of a 4 day competition I was not happy to have our golf tour ruined. I then asked to see the Manager who, after a little heated debate, said that he would try and get us on at 11.00am for the first 9 holes, and 13.08 for the next 9 holes.
We wanted an early tee time as we were driving 170 miles back to Chelmsford after and didn't want to get caught up in the Bank Holiday traffic.
To use up the time we then went to the restaurant and spent £80 on a light breakfast, which we really didn't want or need.
Unfortunately, when we went to tee off the course manager said that we couldn't as we would be interfering with a match. After some debate we said that we would play a Greensomes match so that we would be quite quick and he reluctantly let us tee off.
When we finished the first 9 holes, which we did in a somewhat speedier fashion than we would normally like, we the got to the 10th hole where, once again, we were held up by the course manager as we had to feed in to another competition.
The course was great, the staff were as helpful as they could be considering the difficult situation, but your booking system really let you and us down.
In the end we left the course at least 2 hours later than expected, and the journey back home took over 5 hours due to the increase in holiday traffic at that later time,
All in all a very disappointing end to our 4 day golf tour.
Regards
A bit wet
Really good course, staff were very friendly, however in my opinion the course should have been closed.
The whole course was under several inches of standing water, and greens were all flooded, and if you hit the ball in a bunker you weren't getting it back as they had become water hazards
However I am looking forward to playing here in the summer.
Booked a unavailable tee time
Booked tee time Saturday afternoon for 11-48. Upon arrival when to pro shop to check in and there was nothing on there system for our booking which we paid £120… luckily they had a no show for 11-40 so we got that tee time…. Between GolfNow and Dorset country club you need to sort this out as it’s happened before to other members from our golf club
Fantastic layout and great greens
I have played The Dorset G&CC a number of times but not for many years. The main course (Lakeland and Parkland nines) is one of the most enjoyable layouts you will come across. Such a great variety of holes with great use of water (lakes and streams). It's designed by Martin Hawtree so this is to be expected. The greens were excellent, pretty quick and pure, and the fairways were also in great shape. However tees were a bit bare, although this didn't affect how they played. The bunkers were a bit of an issue with many having large puddles in them even it hadn't rained in a fair few days. But this didn't detract from the enjoyment of the course. It is great value for money and with a bit more TLC it would be one of the best courses in the county.
Great course, great value
Played Dorset twice in last month and both times the course has been in good condition considering the weather. Played after heavy rainfall this week and one hole (6th) was unplayable from tee to about 200 yards out due to flooding, but rest of course was fine. Huge greens and quite a forgiving course with light rough and room to get back in play even if wayward from tee on most holes. Great little club house too and range facilities superb
Fab course.
Beautiful, well designed course. Every tee shot required thought to navigate the clever bunkers. Soaking wet and drenched but still fantastically prepared for golfers.
Bar staff seemed a little off colour.
A really enjoyable relaxed round of golf. Early morning tee allowed me to have an unpressured round on Lakeland & Parkland Course. The Course was in good condition particularly the greens. I wondered about any confusion with tees as Course comprises of different permutations of 3 x 9 hole courses. I however found Course and signage very clear.
Trying to arrange to come back.
First time playing this course. Although there was an error with my tee off time that was quickly sorted. I played the parkland and woodland courses. Although I wanted to play the Lakeland course but my disappointment was short lived. The bunkers are well placed on almost every hole I did think at one point I was playing in Weymouth beach seeings I spent so much time in the sand. As I walked from the 18 to the 19 tees (the 9th on the parkland to the 1st on the woodland). I was met by the course ranger he was very friendly. He directed me to the next hole and warned me how narrow the woodland course is. I am currently trying to pluck up the courage to ask the better half when I can play again.
Greens are big .
This couse is one of the best i have played in Dorset. Very friendly staff and when you get to the tee box, they have a marshall to check your tee time and help you with course information.
The greens are very big and so are the geenside bunkers and lots of them.
The greens are in very good condtion.
I played very well on the day and had a hole in one on the Lakeland on hole 7 , which made the day, one not to forget.
What a good course this is.

Little bit pricey
The course itself is a well set out 27 hole course, so you don’t need to play the same 18 holes everytime you play. The price though on golf now is no cheaper than just going to the course or ringing up and booking which is the only downside to the course
