Mr Williams
Played this course for the first time and really enjoyed it. Course was in good condition, and greens were excellent. Only thing that lets this couse down is a lack of variation on the par 3's except for the brilliant 4th. Excellent value though at £28. Will play again!
Tougher than it looks
With wide open fairways you'd think it would be easy to keep the ball in play. However with some wicked undulations, trees and bushes come into play with some wicked bounces off the firm fairways. If you are off line here it can be tough to score.
Some lovely views but some holes are a little dull. The greens were in good nick, but do lack some character.
A long course with some long walks between holes. I certainly felt this at the end of the round.
Certainly value for money and a good challenge
Enjoyable round
Great variety despite what seems to be a lot of back to back par 4’s on the scorecard.
The narrow fairways are challenging to hit but there is plenty of rough before getting into any trouble making this a very forgiving course which will bring many birdie opportunities.
Really enjoyable round with some spectacular views and t shots. Will look forward to playing here again.
Nice course
Nice course. A couple of challenging holes. Fairways were a little burnt out and some of the greens were really fast and others really slow.
Staff were friendly but there wasn’t anywhere to fill up water bottles, and the clubhouse bar was closed.
I really like the design of the course though, although next time I’ll probably rent a golf cart!
Charles
Course rammed sometimes three groups waiting on tee boxes. Took nearly five hours.
Good open course
With golf clubs and hotels open once again, I thought I'd take advantage of my personal freedom currently and play this course for the first time.
The driving range is missing a number of rubber tees, forcing me to play all shots off the mat. Very disappointing. The putting green was in decent condition.
The guys in the pro shop was very helpful when I arrived and talked me through the layout of the course after discovering it was my first time.
The course is very open with little in the way of trees lining the fairways. This makes it a fairly forgiving course and I'll always welcome that! Some decent holes including the par 3 8th. There are minimal water hazards and, at the time of my visit, the bunkers were mostly out of play.
After 9 holes I paired up with another solo player and together we enjoyed the back nine at a good pace. Overall, I would definitely return and this club is in an area that suits me for work purposes.
Stunning Hampshire Golf Course
Course played really well today with fairways beautifully maintained and looking very green despite some high temperatures. Off the fairway not too punishing and greens were very lush and consistent. This course allows you to grow your game and develop course management to reduce scores. Has helped me move from playing off 24 to now around 13 to 15 each round. Stunning views and friendly fellow golfers make this course a lovely playing experience guaranteed.
Save your money
Played the course quiet a few times over the years and fair to say it doesn't get any better, it's get worse!! Bunkers not raked, covered in stones with most having clumps of grass growing in them, greens are patchy covered in holes and the tee boxes aren't much better! For a course called The Hampshire you are thinking all singing all dancing but unfortunately not which is a shame as it's our local 18 hole course and for the sake of the extra 15min drive you can play Upavon, Tidworth or Test Valley which are much better value for money and in immaculate condition compared to the Hampshire!!
Great winter course
Can’t fault this golf course for winter golf after all the rain we have had past few months wouldn’t of none playing this course yes it’s a very basic golf course but for the money it’s hard to complain when all the other courses local to us are closed or not worth playing
Its gone down hill...
its always been a safe bet for a reasonably priced round at a nice course, but Im afraid I was amazed by the conditions of some of the greens and particularly the tees... Some tees had some large areas of dusty soil between the yellow tees!? Lots of greens had holes in...and lacking grass (the summer isn't an excuse... other courses are fine) we started early and bunkers hadn't been raked. Clearly gone down hill
AND as for the members playing a club competition.. it seems they were exempt for basic golf etiquette, allowing countless groups to back up for their extreme slow play and not invite anyone through.
Fabulous day out.
First time my friend and I had played this course, not far out from City of Winchester, in Hampshire, but it was quite a lovely experience. Easy walking on soft grass underfoot, greens were in very good condition. Maybe bit more sand needed in bunkers- only criticism. Views surrounding the Course were stunning. Will definitely go there again.
Great value for money!
Got a Hot Deal for my first GolfNow booking, £15 which is peanuts for a course like this.
Course layout is great for those that like a little challenge, though getting to your next tee was sometimes confusing but the map on the scorecard easy fixes that.
There’s a putting green, chipping green, driving range and a 9 hole par 3! This course has it all, great all round!
My course summary.
Advantages:
Relatively open course that allows a generous tee-shot.
Very pleasant views from the hill tops.
Dry course, so probably playable all year round with plenty of ball-run.
Not too much in the way of hill-climbing, so OK for most 'Seniors'.
Great value for what I paid.
Disadvantages:
Greens are too firm and your ball is likely to bounce through, unless playing in with a very lofted club.
From what I could see, bunkers were often unraked.
Forgiving course that's value for money
This is a nice course with a challenging but forgiving layout. The greens and tees were well watered and the overall condition of the course is pretty good. This is a course where you can get at the holes but there are hazards to be aware of throughout.
Always go back
Every time I’m down this way on a course I bring my clubs and pay the Hampshire a visit. Booking through a hot deal at only £10 it is amazing value for a very nice golf course. Even the standard £15 on tee off times is night and day against the other clubs trying to charge silly money.
If you are ever in the area and looking for somewhere to test your all round game, grab some food and get brillIant value for money then this place is your answer.
Great wee course
played this course today had been a lot of rain recently but only one green showed any sign of this.
The staff were very friendly and the course was a good but tricky layout some blind holes with no idea where to play ball on first visit but adds to the fun, found my way round not a problem using the signs.
would play again and probably will tomorrow.
