An interesting track, albeit with one or two unusual holes
Nice track. Like every course, it has very bare fairways at present, but the greens were in excellent condition, true and quite fast. In these conditions, some holes can be testing. The first is very tough to control and the 11th becomes very unfair as well, especially if you havent played the course.
However, good value, very interesting and genuinely, very nice staff around the whole of the course and clubhouse.
Disappointing
I’m clearly in the minority, because the reviews from everybody else are great!
I was in the area and I like to play random courses while I’m away. There are tons of courses nearby but this one had the highest rating and the best reviews. I just didn’t see what everybody else obviously sees apparently.
Admittedly, maybe I’ve caught it at a bad time. It’s summer, although I wouldn’t say we’ve had extreme weather. The whole place was solid and the ball would bounce in any random direction off the solid lumps in the fairway, and the ball would just run and run, usually into trouble! It just wasn’t golf. The ball would never hold the green so you had to drop it 20 yards short and hope for the best.
But my biggest gripe was not weather related, but the fact that many holes have shared greens. This was not mentioned to me, so you can imagine my surprise when I’m gladly putting on the 1st green and I look up and have 4 blokes stood there with hands on hips clearly ready to hit into my green. My immediate thought was “I’ve obviously hit into the wrong green”, so I grabbed my ball and hastily got out of their way. After consulting the map on the scorecard (which has no useful information like local rules are etiquette for shared greens) I realised that was correct and then I set about trying to find the 2nd tee box.
The big problem with this setup, other than the fact that I should have been warned, was that there is so much space, and absolutely no need whatsoever to have that setup. I can only assume that it’s laziness from the green-keepers, and how the members have let them get away with that I do not know! It just baffles me.
Some holes are unplayable. I think it’s the 9th where you have to hit onto a 45 degree slope which then rolls down into the trees. With the course in that condition, there’s no chance - you may as well just hit it straight into the trees.
Anyway, I managed to get some me time at least, but next time I’ll give another course a go!
Great course
Very nice course, well kept and challenging . Quite a few hills so we had a buggy but would recommend . Nice club house and a great selection of food available .
Fairways and greens in top condition this is my second visit to the course and will come back many more times this year.
Beautiful course!
The course itself is one of the most beautiful courses I've played.
A lot of scenic holes particularly the 10th.
Be prepared for a bit of a workout as this course is quiet long and some big hills to climb.
9/10 would play again.
Interesting and varied course
A great course with such varied holes. Dog legs, over water, pot bunkers and up 'n down. Course was in great condition and the greens were superb. I had a poor round but still really enjoyed the course. Suits golfers who can hit straight as opposed to the big hitters. Shame that on a few tees the winter mats were still in play given the great weather we've had recently. Restaurant & pro shop staff couldn't have been more friendly
Lovely course
Course in fantastic condition greens very fast and true makes you think about your puts highly recommend millbrook
The Millbrook GC
Nice course
Tree lined and lots of lovely interesting holes.
Greens were good for this time of year. (March)
Some steep hills on some holes but a buggy in the summer would help with them.
Only downside was the tees not being in play.
Off the mats is never great...
But a course that will be a good test of your skills...
Excellent
Excellent condition considering the amount of rain we have had recently.
Excellent Greens
I have played The Millbrook a few times - almost exclusively in grim weather. While there are some boggy areas generally the course holds up well and especially the most important bits - The greens.
Amazing condition
Considering the time of year the course is in amazing condition. Still on grass tees and the greens are still running true and fast. The course is a credit to the green staff. The facilities are excellent and the welcome is warm and friendly. Highly recommended.
Friendly and in great condition
4 of us played late October on a Monday. The first two to arrive were told that the kitchen wasn't open for hot food on a Monday. The staff then asked how many were in our group, and offered to cook us a breakfast anyway. The food was excellent, and great value.
The Pro then guided us through the layout of the course (some double greens, and longish walks between greens and next tees).
The course itself was is very fine condition. It's situated on a sand ridge, and there were no wet areas. The greens were superb for the time of year, and I'd be interested to play peak season, to see how they are in the summer.
Overall, highly recommended.
