Overall - disappointing
Having played at The Wiltshire several times over the years, it’s sad to see the course in such decline. It still has an excellent layout with significant challenge for accuracy but the greens were inconsistent, patchy and uneven and the bunkers were filled with what looked like a mix of builder’s sand and fine gravel. We didn’t see another golfer until we’d played the front nine.
If you’re looking for a cheap place to play, it’s a good place for you. There’s alway send to be availability. If you played there in the past and have fond memories of it, please lower your expectations.
Requires a lot of work.
The course and facilities were in a poor state. Greens and fairways not looked after which is a shame as it can be an excellent course. It’s fairly testing with water on some holes and the par 3,s are fairly long. There are not many hole indicators, so if you’re new to this course, you don’t know if you’re playing the right hole . With 2 courses you could easily be playing the wrong course.
Awful
Had an awful experience at this golf course. I walked off the course after 11 holes. The fairways were like first cut rough.
The greens were dead and had no grass on them.
8 out of the 11 holes I played had flag poles laying on the ground. Tee boxes looked like they had been dug up with a digger.
Would not recommend!!!!
Nice
Very good. Great to see this venue on the way back
No real faults to be found.
Unless you want to be super picky
Great value. I will be back very soon
Treated myself and my son to a buggy for a treat
Buggy had gps with distance to hole etc
Great work guys keep moving in the right direction
and you will not go wrong
Great Value
Well this course is coming back to near its best, apart from the odd weed on the green the rest of the course is in great condition and for the money I rate it the best value for money course in Wiltshire, don't think you will be disappointed.
Excellent value for money! Great course.
It really depends what type of golfer you are and managing your expectations?
My friend and I are only ‘occasional players’, once every couple of months, as such we rarely break 100, so our game does not warrant a £50-£70 Championship course.
The Wiltshire cost us £17 for the round and it was, in ALL honesty, all things considered, GREAT! It is WELL worth the money!
This was our second visit, we last played here in January, in the rain and the course was really good, we were very impressed and had a great round then but we wanted to try it again in better weather.
The course yesterday 20/7/24 was in very good condition, with a good variety of holes, trees, water, elevation changes (we do not like flat, boring parkland courses). The greens were great, nicely cut, ran true and we had a thoroughly enjoyable round!
No it’s not The Belfry, Celtic Manor or Bowood (Wiltshire) or any championship standard course but it certainly exceeded all our expectations.
Our only feedback would be is that they need better markers/signposts to tell you where the next tee is, even the map on the buggy wasn’t clear, we got lost 3 times which only slows the play down for those behind and can be quite frustrating.
Saturday morning 11.48 tee off (peak time?) and there weren’t many players on the course so no waiting or queuing at the tees.
Be aware that there isn’t a traditional clubhouse, golf shop or golf any pro on site, not even a golf shop to buy balls, gloves, merchandise etc, it is essentially a hotel with a golf course attached, You check in at the hotel reception and whilst there is a perfectly acceptable bar/seating/dining area (can get bacon/sausage butters) it’s not like a typical clubhouse.
In conclusion, it’s all about managing your expectations, all in all you can have a GREAT round of golf and a beer afterwards at a very reasonable cost, what’s not to like?
Very interesting course
Perfectly adequate, if only things were kept a bit better it would be great.
Will visit again.
Hot day golfing
An OK days golf. The golf pro shop is closed..so i went into hotel to register for my 2 ball tee time.
This was alrasy prepaid. It was a Sunday so i thought a Sunday roast dinner may be available.
Sadly no Sunday lunchtime roast dinners are available. But a selection of snacks only.
The course looked tired and not in very good condition. I won't be in a hurry to return to play.
It a shame really . I did play this course a prior to covid . Years ago and enjoyed playing very much.
Left after 13 holes and went to a pub garden to top up on drinks. No atmosphere in the hotel bar area and wanted to enjoy more sunshine and sit outside with a drink.
Great value - A little run down generally around the resory
I've played this course a few years ago and it was always really good. It appears to be a little rundown generally around the resort, needs some tlc, paint, furniture etc
But... The course is in great shape, greens were well maintain and the course is still working as it should. It was empty so hardly saw anyone else and for £16 it's unreal value for money. We will be back
1st time playing here
Was half expecting a horror show after reading some reviews but I was quite surprised how well the course looks. Yeah it needs some TLC but that only comes with time and it won't take much to get this place back near what I heard it was 10/20 years ago. Could do with a course map on the score card to know exactly how to get around and along with some proper signage
Good variation of holes
Played holes1 to 13 due to time constraints. Overall course was in good condition after a very wet winter. Most holes played had cut grass laying in the 2nd cut rough.
Nearly Great
The course was nearly deserted, and it seems to be in decline which is a shame. Dead grass clippings meant we lost balls in the first cut, and some bunkers were lacking sand. However the fairways and greens were well kept. We had a delightful day for the very low price we paid through Golf Now and will certainly return.
Staff/course
Staff didn’t seem to have a clue and were very slow with everything… the course wasn’t in great condition at all and the pace of play was very slow, we actually walked in after about 13 holes
Greens well kept
First time there , was looking forward to it but it disappointed me .
Signs around the course were either none existent or in poor condition. Please mark up holes and add clear directions to next hole. The fairways didn’t appear to be well maintained. Very lush with a covering of large clumps of mossy type grass. Lost 3 balls despite clearly hitting the fairways, would take forever looking under the above clumps of grass.
Needs some TLC and it could be a nice course. Greens were the best part of the course. Well cut and in lovely condition.
May return if some work is done
Walter
Avoid at all costs!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Without a doubt the worst golf course I have played. Believe it or not, this picture is a fairway right in front of a green (can you see the ball?). The entire course is thick rough, the greens are bare and sandy, the tee mats are covered in a dangerously slippy sludge, and bunkers full of grit. No pro shop or refreshments. Quit after 8 holes and the hotel staff refused to refund us.
