Such a shame
This could be one of the best golf courses in the South West but it has been sadly neglected. It’s obvious the owners are just doing the bare minimum. The course is very scruffy now. The greens are not maintained and the tee boxes are devoid of grass. There is thick rough and no semi and it is easy to lose many balls. We played at 9:30 and there were hardly any cars in the car park and we only saw 3 other groups all day. The newish owners need to invest the money they got from the home office to invest in the course.
What a shame
This used to be a great course, it’s now so run down it’s hardly recognisable. The greens if you can call them that are the worst I’ve ever seen browns would be a better description. So many of the bunkers are now GUR and the fairways and rough that has actually been cut are littered with the clippings. Although not an expensive round it is not worth the £25 they are charging. My advice is to stay well clear!
Lovely course going to the dogs
Unwelcome reception not interested in me.
Nobody else around. I saw four other people on the course.
General feeling of being run-down and not being kept well. Saw a couple of groundsmen but no-one tending the course. Fairways indistinct from light rough and greens not cut.
It is a lovely course but needs work to get it back to the standard it once was.
Society group took me under their wing
On a day when one didn't know quite what to expect on a golf course, I was treated to an awesome experience with the last group of an East Berkshire based golf society. My new friends for life Tyler, Neil & Kev humbly allowed me to join their throng (not thong) on the second hole and much admiration of each other's abilities ensued. I think we would have probably broken the course record on a better ball basis had the conditions allowed. Fortunately for me, after the round I left to play elsewhere. They had at least one more round on a soggy, though fair course. Will certainly come back in drier times, and remember the kindness of strangers.
Wasted potential
I played the lakes course today, Friday, it hasn't rained here since Tuesday night and the course was saturated.
They have a golf shop, that was closed.
They have a halfway house, that was closed.
They have a driving range, that was closed.
The greens keepers seem to like wheel spinning across the grass, I witnessed this myself and there's plenty of evidence if this.
The course could be great. The course needs the grass cut. I tee'd up with a pink castle tee and the bottom of my ball touches the top of the grass. It seems to me, that they are putting in minimal effort to maintain the golf course and it shows. Bunkers have builders aggregate sand in there and it's rock hard. Greens need grass cut, fairways need the grass cut, tee boxes need the grass cut. Greens keepers need to have more respect for the course. It wouldn't be difficult to make the country club great. Photo of 15th green and the mess the grounds staff made.
Big shame
Could be a really good course and i am sure it has been in the past. Unfortunately the maintenance is clearly not in place. Bunkers filled with building aggregate and full of stones .akinv them unplayable, far to wet to have buggys on which has left areas like a test track!
Greens were not horrendous but could be much better and the tee boxes were like a bog in places.
The actual course could be brilliant but a lot of work is required to bring it up to a decent standard, a real shame.
Surprised ! Or should I say SHOCKED
Let me begin with the positives ,This could be potentially a really good course, the layout of the course is good the variety of par 3s /4s//5s is a good test for almost any high to low handicapper, the Tee off areas were ok,the fairways had been cut ,the rough was as it should be ,there were 2 bunkers which were GUR which is almost acceptable.
The biggest problem this course has is the GREENS they are totally unacceptable and this course in my opinion should not be able to charge golfers a green fee based on the condition of the greens!!
I would strongly advise anyone who is thinking of going there to make sure you check the standard of the greens before paying your money !
Very Dissappointed
Decided to play this course again due to the good low price for the round and the weather was perfect and the course quiet when we arrived so we went off strait away with no wait. However...the course had obviously not been owed for some time so the fairways were slow and the greens were just like you would expect on a pitch and put course with the grass almost half an inch long in some places - obviously not been cut for some time. Directions on the course are very poor and due to the two course set up, we once again played an incorrect hole as there were few signs to direct you to the next hole. What signs there were were in bad condition with most writing illegible with the hole descriptions peeling off as not been updated for many years.
Sadly this course has great previous faciities that are now being run into the ground due to lack of investment. Wont be visiting again sadly.
Disappointed
Played here for second time this year. First time was excellent condition, hidden gem. Hence return. However this time greens were very bad. Spoilt whole experience. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone in that state. Such a shame , could be such a great course with little investment.
Such a shame
I have played this course four times this summer. The first time loose cuttings on the fairway meant you could lose balls. The next two rounds were very enjoyable. This time the greens mower was apparently broken and the grass was up to 2 inches long. I've played rugby on better surfaces, This cis a lovely course to play on a good day, but yesterday was unplayable. Yes , it was a cheap deal, but it was a waste of a day and the buggy was full price.
Fluffy lumpy greens
The greens hadn't been cut for up to 2 weeks, so although the fairways showed signs of being cut recently, the round was ruined by appalling greens, such a shame and a waste.
Greens really fluffy can't putt properly yet green keeper cutting the tees which didn't need doing.

Although cheap on hot deal very disappointed in the greens which is a shame as when cut can't fault the course.
Same last time a few weeks ago but game before was much better.
Please cut the greens so putting is possible.
Great layout
Great layout of course. Clearly has suffered from underinvestment over the years but still a fun round at a good price.
Good value
A nice afternoon playing golf..not busy course. Greens are very slow and do require urgent attention
Overall - disappointing
Having played at The Wiltshire several times over the years, it’s sad to see the course in such decline. It still has an excellent layout with significant challenge for accuracy but the greens were inconsistent, patchy and uneven and the bunkers were filled with what looked like a mix of builder’s sand and fine gravel. We didn’t see another golfer until we’d played the front nine.
If you’re looking for a cheap place to play, it’s a good place for you. There’s alway send to be availability. If you played there in the past and have fond memories of it, please lower your expectations.
Requires a lot of work.
The course and facilities were in a poor state. Greens and fairways not looked after which is a shame as it can be an excellent course. It’s fairly testing with water on some holes and the par 3,s are fairly long. There are not many hole indicators, so if you’re new to this course, you don’t know if you’re playing the right hole . With 2 courses you could easily be playing the wrong course.
Awful
Had an awful experience at this golf course. I walked off the course after 11 holes. The fairways were like first cut rough.
The greens were dead and had no grass on them.
8 out of the 11 holes I played had flag poles laying on the ground. Tee boxes looked like they had been dug up with a digger.
Would not recommend!!!!
