West Malling Golf Club - Spitfire Course

BOOKED A 4 BALL WITH A FAMILY MEMBER AND 2 FRIENDS ONE OF WHICH WAS VISITING FROM CANADA SO WAS HOPING FOR A BIT OF A SPECIAL DAY. THE COURSE WAS THE WORSE I HAVE EVER SEEN IT, ALMOST EVERY GREEN WAS OVER LOADED WITH FINE SAND, NON OF IT WAS RAKED IN, SOME BUNKERS WERE EITHER EMPTY OF SAND OR HAD ROTTING ROLLS OF TURF IN, THE WEATHER WASNT GREAT AND IT WAS COLD SO HOPING FOR A NICE HOT COFFEE ON OUR RETURN ONLY TO BE TOLD THE COFFEE MACHINE WAS NOW OFF (18:35HOURS) WAS VERY MUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. AS WAS THE LOUNGING STAFF MEMBER SCROLLING THROUGH HER EMAILS ON HER PHONE IN THE RESTAURANT AS WE CAME OFF THE COURSE. NOT EVEN HI CHAPS HOW WAS THE ROUND?? THAT SAME STAFF MEMBER THAT SERVED US LUNCH WITHOUT EVEN A WORD JUST PLONKED THE FOOD ON THE TABLE RANDOMLY. THE DIRTY FRIES WITH PRETTY MUCH JUST BLANCHED FRIES!! MY ISSUES HAVE BEEN RAISED WITH THE CLUB AND I HAVE BEEN OFFERED A COMPLIMENTARY 4 BALL WHICH I AM HAPPY WITH. BUT IN ALL THE YEARS IVE BEEN COMING HERE THIS WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING, I HOPE A ONE OFF.

When you first pull into west malling the course looks amazing, The shop is very good and the breakfast turned out to be the best part of the day.

For £75 I expected better conditions the tee boxes were in a bad way, every bunker was under repair of had no sand. The course felt cramped.

On one hole next to the driving range lost a ball due to the hundreds of range balls in and around our fairway.

The staff were very friendly on checking in and there was a friendly atmosphere on the course. The course (spitfire) is in very good condition compared to other courses, given the dry summer and lack of rain. greens were excellent and spotless throughout. The course is cramped in places which is the only criticism of the course. I would definitely play it again. My only other negative is that £60 a round is a bit excessive, albeit money is clearly being spent on the course unlike some other courses in the area - ball washers and bins every hole, layout boards, good signage etc

I just hope the new owners do not spoil it and make the Spitfire course a premium one and double green fee.

Range clubhouse and staff exdellent

Course conditions not great. Greens and tees in really poor condition compared to other courses within the area. Not worth the £40 afternoon rate. Interesting course layout and some nice holes with water… shame about conditions…

At £45 per round, probably the worst course I’ve ever played. At best, £32. Would never return again.

It was my first time playing the course and as a group we were pleasantly surprised at the course’s conditions when factoring how much rainfall we have had recently. Staff were friendly and good range/putting facilities too. Would play again.

Cannot fault anything about the round of golf on a hot Friday afternoon. Friendly easy paced round, although you have to keep tee shots straight and focus on short par 3s.

Recommend to any golfer.

The greens have recently been sanded and spiked. The club charged £50 per round. There should have been money off as the greens were not running well and putting was ‘hit and hope’. I would wait a few weeks for the greens to settle down before playing.

A well kept course that is both picturesque & a challenge to play. Set in a nice part of Kent.

Great course - challenging for beginners but well maintained, etc. Not busy.

Great course in good condition. Well worth it.

Shame the clubhouse closed before it got dark and when there were still lots of people on the course. It would have been nice to grab a drink after a warm round and also use the toilet.
