Very slow
Very slow play took us 5 hours and was waiting nearly every shot sometimes go a good 10 minutes, at times there was 3 groups waiting on the tee
Poor condition
Mud everywhere, appreciate its October but have played other courses in last few weeks and the condition of this course in comparison was poor
Challenging and tight course. Greens are very good but fairways need some work. Some really interesting holes.
Good course
Trees, water hills, a really good course, they do have buggies on site but I didn’t ask about availability with hindsight it would have been a good idea
Hilly!
The course was in good condition, but the tee’s let it down. Very dry and bare, and uneven on some holes.
Challenging course, and very hilly. Not for anyone with difficulty in walking; would recommend a buggy for anyone with any mild disability as some sort of the holes involve a steep incline.
Overall a really fun course with some lovely, but tough, holes.
Not overly long but it helps if you are straight from the tee on most holes!
Great Experience
West Malling GC has done a great job in getting the course and facilities set-up for COVID-19. A great experience with good distance between tee times and a very respecting golf fraternity.
Would highly recommend.
Spitfire lockdown review
The golf club have made a lot of effort to set the facilities up for use under the current restrictions. Everything was well organised and we had a really enjoyable round. The course was fairly quiet so we were round in around 3.5 hours. The course was well maintained and I really liked the layout of the holes. Playing a decent round may have also added to the pleasure. Will definitely return
Cramped course layout
So while it’s understood that recent weather has left courses soggy, compared to other courses we have played in the areas over the past few weeks this one was particularly muddy.
Bays in the driving range are not wide enough to properly swing a modern length driver without risk of hitting the posts. Mats are stuck down so you can’t shift them over to give the little bit of extra space required. I had to stick a tee in the front corner of the mat which just about gave me the space to hit a few warmup shots but it was uncomfortable.
The course itself (Spitfire) was very cramped in layout with tees very close to the previous greens. A couple of holes (3rd for example) almost required hitting across the previous green with a shanked shot risking hitting the following group if they are on the green. It’s quite a hilly course with lots of elevated greens and blind fairway shots meaning you need to take care not to play too close to the group in front. Course was highly congested and pace of play was slow.
Overall, given this was not a particularly cheap course to play on it was disappointing. The cramped nature of the layout along with congestion made it uncomfortable at times. If you are confident that you never hit a shanked tee shot and don’t mind waiting around a bit then you might still enjoy the challenge. Not really suitable for new or high-handicap golfers; perhaps the Hurricane course is a little less challenging.
Sat 4 ball
Looked after when we arrived all facilities were first class staff excellent especially helpful in the club shop
Course was ok fairways need a bit of Tlc other than that just the weather let us all down we had that fine horrible rain most of the day
Would come again just for the fantastic club shop
Have to play this course!
Really good course. Excellent greens. A few holes you have to think about you can't just hit driver! Very hilly but so pretty you forget about it. I will definitely return to this course!
Slow play
Got stuck behind a large society which we were not told when checking in. After 4 and half hours walked off at the 14th as was painfully slow.
Winter golf
Played on a very cold day in December, lots of parts still frozen, especially lots of greens, impossible to read a putt all day! Although it is the better of the 2 courses some of the holes need reworking as some have very strange hitting angles and approaches.
Over priced and in poor condition
I was thorough disappointed by the state of the course, the green had recently be airated and there was more sand on them than in the bunkers... To test them I hit the same putt three times from bout 5ft and it went three completely different directions.
I thought the layout was hotch potch and where fairways crossed each other they were in poor condition.
nice little course
Never played here before, so was lucky to get paired up with two locals. They helped with knowing where to go on some blind shots. Tricky layout, lots of elevation change, makes for a good walk. One par 4 in particular, only 300 some odd yards, downhill to a landing area of 40-50 yards. Then once you get to your ball, you can't tell where the green is. Well it ended up being straight up a hill that looked like all trees and bushes. Probably an 80-90 yard shot but 40 foot elevation change. Interesting, but need to know how to play it.
Greens were in good shape, rolled true. Staff were great and explained the course well.
Also another course on property, played 9 holes there, more flat and wide open.
