Wrekin Golf Club

First time playing the course yesterday and thought it was excellent. Whilst it is listed as a Par 66 course, it features a number of really interesting and well-designed holes which make it a fair challenge to players. Greens are well-maintained and pacy. Have tried a number of the courses locally and this is certainly up there as one of the best, look forward to playing it again in the future.

Clubhouse

Limited food options which was disappointing for a Sunday. Had a turkey bap which was OK and a nice coffee. The bar was done out quite nice with course views.

Was quite small but ok and the pro ok

The course

Quite challenging but really windy as the course is like in a ravine so it acts like a wind tunnel so advise playing summer not windy days. The course conditions are ok but like alot of other courses lacks tlc in their greens and fairways. Some practice nets prior to start and the course signage is virtually non existence.

Overall

Not as inviting as some other courses but ok. Score card has no map or local rules. They want you to scan a Qr code (not ideal) as they have used the back of the card for advertising.

First time to be here, honestly the course condition was not very good, not sure why so many people rank this course in a such high score. I would say the course condition is slightly better than Harborne farm church if anyone knows it. But considering the green fee is £40 as a winter rate, not worth at all for me. The sand is awful, green speed is just ok, I was told there is one hole closed and 4 temporary greens but actually there are 6 temporary greens.

Overall not a very pleasant day out for me, not sure what’s the condition in summer looks like but in Mid of March the condition is below average.

Course in excellent condition took 4 hours to play the round so pretty good although it was midweek. And weather was bit mixed. Overall great day but bit expensive as you need a buggy an extra £30 . I'd play again maybe once a year

The course played great. Greens immaculate. Changeable breeze adding to the complexity of each hole.

Fantastic day at The Wrekin G.C. Great course, perfect condition, Super fast greens. Nice pint after in the sunsine on the balcony overlooking 18th green, 1st tee and practice green. Dunno why I've not been before? Will return very soon

From start to finish a 5 star experience. Friendly staff, challenging but fair course in great condition. Weather was perfect, lots of wildlife - deer aplenty, kites, buzzards etc…. For more elderly players, like me, this course is best played using a buggy, the hills are demanding. But they make great holes and it’s exciting to use the terrain to your advantage. I couldn’t stay for refreshments but spoke to those who had, and they enjoyed the experience. 100% recommend this course.

Really enjoyed our round, extremely up and down terrain wish we got a buggy.

Would like to have had par 5 in there somewhere but overall we would definitely play again.

There is so much to write about what a great day out we had at the Wrekin ! Golf is so much more than 18 holes, and Wrekin came up with a simply splendid day out for the Open 4BBB pairs.

Arrived to a warm welcome and a nice hot bacon bap, with a coffee.

Practice facilities are on the small side with a small putting green and a couple of netts. What then follows is 18 holes ( with no par 5's) of a really great test of any handicap golfers ability. Hardly any flat holes or flat LZ's including up / down slopes and cross slopes. Lots of green are cut into the sides of hill, lots and lots of elevation changes. (I think the total elevation change from high point to low point was 600ft). This is a course where you really have to think about shot placement and where the roll will take your ball when it lands.

The last 3 holes are all uphill, it's quite a push, and you certainly know youv'e had a stiff workout if your pushing a cart or carrying your clubs.

Upon finishing we were greeted with a good well stocked bar with very decent ale options, our meal included was a super chicken curry followed by a roulade with nice tarte fruits of the forest.

Did we win ? ...........no.......... Did we care ?....... not one bit, great course, great bar, great food and a warm welcome from the members.........BRAVO Wrekin........... a great day out.

Despite playing this course 2 days after some horrendous weather, the fairways and greens were in remarkably good condition. The setting is truly beautiful, being at the bottom of the Wrekin, and the views are stunning. The staff and members are very friendly and helpful. All in all a very nice day to celebrate my sons 33rd birthday. I am even considering applying for membership!

Really good day out - the course is in excellent condition, challenging but if you're careful not too demanding. Some of the vistas across to Wales, Manchester, Shrewsbury and Cannock Chase are spectacular and the view of some of the fairways from the tee - daunting and breath taking. Seeing 8 fallow deer wandering across one fairway, and several birds of prey circling above made the day for us. Really friendly staff, and we met several members who were also welcoming. A definite return, and hopefully in the not too distant future. If I lived closer this would be my club, no doubt about that.

What can I say about this course .

Challenging .immaculate .stunning views .greens were immaculate.no slow play .can see why buggy maybe required very hilly .10th tee for ladies is a wow factor .

Thoroughly enjoyed it .food in clubhouse afterwards was superb . Definitely coming back here again .

Great experience with poor weather! Heavy rain in the morning but the course was in incredible condition. Really well looked after course, greens were true and consistent around the course. Overall condition of the course was the best I’ve played this year. Really friendly staff as well

Lovely course, quite challenging. Greens in good condition. Very hilly.

Although it's a relatively short course the geography certainly makes up for the lack of length.

Completely different from any other, non-links, course giving it a unique challenge

Lovely design with lots of shapes using the natural contours of the Wrekin.

You can take in the very picturesque views whilst taking a breather between some of the more demanding uphill holes. Even the deer made an appearance

Staff were very welcoming and as were the couple of members I spoke with, who were rightly proud of "their" course.

Would definitely recommend you give this course a go. If nothing else you'll get a great aerobic workout
