Course has improved
Bluewater GC has improved over the past year. Only draw backs are that the course does not drain well so playing after rain showers effects play. In addition, the driving range is closed too often.
It was fine for what it is
Course was recently aerated which we knew going in so kept expectations lower... a lot of people on here acting like they paid $100 and expected top notch for the area.. the course is fine and I would play it again... worst part was the greens were still sandy from being aerated and some of the fairways were holding a lot of water due to recent rains... I got a hot deal tee time and paid $24 and I’m not mad about what I got to play.
Ok for the price
Greebs were just aerated this week. Not their fault for the calendar. Every course local is doing that this week. Fairways though we’re not great. Rough was awful. Tee boxes - well some didn’t exist and most were really unkempt. Views were just eh. The price was low. Fairways aren’t as tight as most let on. Would I play here again? Yes, I would like to try it again when greens are back.
If it wasnt for the bridge.........................
I think Bluewater bay would pull in more 30a vacationers if not for the bridge and traffic. granted $8 round trip toll is not a crippler; more an inconvenience. Why don't they accept all EZ pass formats? Staff was exceptional professional and friendly. Carts in good shape (of coarse GPS would be helpful).
Only complaint is the lack of signage between the holes and the two courses.
Twice I got a little lost between holes.
Milligans the 19th hole is excellent. Bar, food, ambiance and the staff are great
Despite the traffic, I'll be back
Pleasantly surprised!
We have lived in the area for 6 years and in that time have played Bluewater Bay probably 8 times in total over the years.
I have never seen the course in better condition than now. It appears they have applied more effort into maintenance since closing the 9 holes called Lake. Marsh and Bay remain with the former having more generous landing areas. Most greens are on the small side and overall I'd characterize the track as "target golf".
Pete the starter and Marshall was very friendly and a good agent for the establishment. We even enjoyed on course beverage services and the lady was very hospitable and respectful of the players. She even shared free peanut butter crackers.
I forgot my cell phone in the cart and the representative in the pro shop was very helpful in making sure it was safeguarded and returned to me, with a follow up phone call confirming it was located.
Overall a wonderful time was had by my foursome and we intend to return soon!
If Only...
Having never played here before we were expecting a "resort" feel as the name "Bluewater Bay Resort" on their website would imply. Back in the day this was probably a cool 3x9-hole layout. Today it's down to 2x9, and only the second half is receiving the normal TLC a course deserves.
You get the feeling it's on its last legs as most of the facilities have not been updated. We joined up with a local couple who helped us navigate the meandering cart paths through dense neighborhoods. While the first 9 fairways and greens showed their age the second 9 looked newer and well kept.
Compared to current local pricing this was not worth more than the $30 GolfNow Hot Deal we got.
Relaxing Day
Great weather to play golf. Pace of play was good. Course is improving but worth the money. Keep making improvements and we will be playing it on our regular rotation.
Progress
I’ve been playing this course since I was a toddler and this last year the course has been better than it ever has in the past. I don’t know who they’ve hired or what they’ve done in regards to the groundskeeping crew but they need to keep it up. Proud to call this my number one course.
Snowbird Golf
I've been a snowbird for the past 11 years and always play the course several times each year. For us it's a pleasure just to be out and hitting a ball. In winter, the course is a little rough. They do not over seed so the fairways are tight lies. Greens are just playable. If you don't want to pay $100+ at the high end courses, it's a good alternative.
Staff is excellent!
Fun course
Layout is tight and you won’t need many drivers. Fun course where you have to shape your shots. Greens are in great shape and fairways are good to. Great value for the money and will play again. It’s not a premier course but it’s a fun one and in good shape
Nice layout but course could use better maintenance and watering.
You get what you paid for.
I’m disheartened. I thought the Bluewater Bay GC was a good course because of its location and area but I was wrong. I’ll just mention some key points:
Tee boxes aren’t kept in good shape. Lots of them have overgrown grass all around them.
The course layout is terrible. Instead of an 18-hole course, it’s two separate 9-hole courses. When you go from the 9th hole to the 10th—which is the 1st hole of the second course—you’ need to drive to it through the neighborhood; it takes about 4 minutes to get there.
The holes are so narrow that, if you slice or pull your ball, forget about it. You’ll end up either in someone’s backyard or in their street.
The bunkers are in dire condition. The #8 on the Marsh Course has a long bunker on the left. It has so much overgrown grass, it looks like quicksand. I even thought for a second that it was a sandy pond.
Other than a single bathroom on each course, with a water fountain (which not many people use fountains anymore), there are no water stations across the golf course.
The driving range looks so unkept, it seriously looks like an abandoned range.
The only positive experience I had was with the Pro Shop staff. They’re very friendly and efficient.
Finally, even with the inexpensive rate I paid today, I’m not ever coming back again.
Good value
Overall, the course is a decent value for the money. The greens are in average condition, with some repair areas on the greens. The fairways are slightly below average. The sand traps are below average with grass growing in some of them. The course is short, so if you’re long off the tee - it’s driver/wedge. I hit irons off the tee to change it up.
Overall though, the course is pretty cheap if you get a GolfNow “Hot Deal”. I’d pay $20 to play again, but not above $30.
Neighborhood golf at the Bay
Surrounded by private homes these nine hole courses have a nice layout - we played Bay and Marsh -, but tee boxes, sand traps and fairways are a bit rough. Greens are ok and well playable. If one wants better conditions it‘s always possible to spend double price or more and get one of Destins signature courses.
