Great course but very wet in places.
It’s a great course, with well placed bunkers and greens in good condition, and well manicured fairways. The course has some short par 4s and then some monsters that are tough to reach in 2. It feels like it plays longer than the actual yardage.
There’s some great scenery if the weathers clear. You can see the Isle of Arran, Ailsa Craig and great views from the top of the course.
If it’s been raining (it’s Scotland so it’s likely it has) the course get waterlogged in some areas which makes it really difficult. This is particularly bad in the winter.
There isn’t a clubhouse but the glasshouse is great for some food and drinks after the round, even if you’re not golfing it’s worth a visit.
Top Quality
First time playing this outstanding course and from the moment you arrive at the estate and pass through the gate house arch the class of the place is apparent. Long drive through well maintained gardens and past the castle. Pull up at the massive castle, book in at the best Pro shop I've ever seen. Staff very friendly, lots of helpful advice. Course was in great condition. Only faults if I'm being picky is tee boxes a bit tired looking and would've helped having a picture of the hole given there are so many bunkers on each hole. More guidance to next tee would be beneficial to new players. I still can't believe we got this course for £30 each. Easily double if not treble would still be good value. Be back soon!!!
Great golf course and setting.
Really good course designed by Monty.
Good condition and very good value for money.
Amazing idealic setting.
Staff, facilities excellent.
Highly recommended.
What a gem of a course
We received such a warm welcome from the club pro when i went into the pro shop to register. He gave us a run down of the course condition and greens and gave us a visitors gift package. Platinum standard start to our day.
The course was in great condition, the greens true and challenging with little subtle breaks. Cleverly placed bunkers and water that get you thinking of driver or lay up.
There is some building work going on within the grounds but there are temp pathways and signs that keep you right.
This is a lovely parklands course in the heart of Ayrshire links but you still get the links views. A course well worth a hit
Such a shame
We where so gutted about this
We’ve played this course many times before
But the courses drainage is so poor , there wasn’t one dry part of the course except the greens.
Definitely not a course you can play once it’s rained but I loved the layout of the course and the restaurant was lovely as was there staff and the food
Good course but needs some tlc
Course has some very good holes but conditions not great
Waterlogged on most fairways & bunkers are shocking like playing on a hard surface, the greens not to good also, location was great course just needs a little work done to it, played better for less.
Excellent course, excellent value for money
I arrived with relatively low expectations - and left most impressed. I’d heard the stories of poor drainage, and maybe it was because it was July, but it all looked fine to me.
The course design is superb - 18 (well 19 actually) great holes.
Fairways and rough were in immaculate condition.
Greens we’re OK (nothing some extra manpower and TLC couldn’t sort) and while most tees were patchy that doesn’t affect one’s game.
All in all I was really delighted.
Definitely going back
Good to see course improvements
Myself and a couple of mates played Rowallan and I was pleasantly surprised at the condition. Many bunkers were water damaged due to heavy rain fall the night before but rest of course was great. Greens running well, fairways generous and semi rough a perfect length. Really good value for money and this is a proper test of a golf course. Staff and catering well excellent and we were well looked after.
Hidden gem
Was very surprised with course condition as had heard many stories about this course
There had been a lot rain leading up to my round but to be fair was still firm under foot could telll by the bunkers had been a lot of rain but noticed staff working hard to put them right greens was running good cud tell that the hot spell had taken its toll on some of the tees but overall had a fantastic time on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards would def play here again
Needs a bit of work
First time playing the course, it can be a bit of a challenge on this Colin Montgomery designed course.
The course bunkers on every hole were very poor with next to no sand and looked if not had much attention in many seasons.
The course was wet in many places despite being 20c for past weeks Good layout but the soggy course took away the enjoyment played more like a winter round.
Needs some investment in drainage and bunker restoration it’s a 3 star course at best in my opinion. I won’t be rushing back .
Great Day!
Played with two friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Staff were very friendly and the course was a great challenge and in great condition, despite the baking weather!
not a golf course, a bog
Standing water everywhere, most shots plugging, areas of rough where the water is coming over your shoes, splattered with mud on several shots including in your eyes, trousers ruined, apart from that avoid this course at all costs. All this on a beautiful spring day. Can't imagine what it would be like in the winter or in the rain.
Thanks for the feedback but it would be fair to consider and note in your reveiw that we have experienced an incredibly wet July (almost 4 weeks of continouous rain). To say there wasn't one dry part on the course is also incredibly harsh. There was a number of members out that day and the feedback you have provided doesnt match their experience.
