Horses for Courses
Any golf course in and around the London area for about 20miles will suffer from poor drainage as all the courses are build on clay. Cheshunt isn’t immune from this but copes with it fairly well. There are some boggy parts but not as bad as others but this time of year you have to move your ball at least a couple of yards for a decent lie. All in all it was a pleasant golfing experience, one which will only get better once the weather improves. I’ll definitely play again once the weather improves
Lack of management
Showed up, no obvious place to sign in. Pro shop closed so i just cracked on. Driving range, ball machine not working and couldn't find anyone to assist. Golf nets in a poor state of repair. Winter mats ok however grass tee boxes were dry and see no reason why they aren't in play. Seems a course run on a shoe string budget with insufficient resources.
Dreadful condition
Almost no drainage meant this course was a total bog, over a week since it had rained. Hard to say too much else given the conditions. Front 9 had some longer holes. back 9 some shorter holes. Don’t think it played as hard as the 132 slope rating suggested (in dry condition!)
Good course
Played Cheshunt park after a couple of days of quite heavy rain & the course was playing well , there is some work on a couple of holes mainly on the ditches , probably to try & stop the course getting waterlogged & muddy as I have experienced before in the colder /wet months , the only area where it let itself down was the bunkers some had very little sand with the plastic liner showing through , but quite a few had ample sand in , the greens , tee boxes & fairways were all in good shape , I would have given the course 5 stars just the bunkers stopped me , overall a good test of golf
Decent course
First time coming here green were lovely and fast some where little waterlogged from the sprinkler been on to long but can't be helped
No obvious fair ways as all grass was cut to near enough the same length (not complaining)
Slow play
We were a 2 ball stuck behind a 1 ball.. 1 ball was not allowed through by members, even though he was a member.. utterly pathetic...each hole from the par 3 7th had a 15min+ wait... no course Marshall to be seen...
Only managed 14 holes as we got bored of waiting... not value for money...
Absolutely Awful!!
By far the worse course I’ve ever played. Course in horensous condition. Shouldn’t have been open. Lost balls in the fairway and fringe of the green in mud. Bunkers either full of water and large stones completely unplayable. We stopped playing after 9 holes. Complete waste of money.
Difficult playing conditions
I booked a round here through Golf now and got a reasonable price for a Sunday compared with other courses (around £17). I was a bit disappointed to find the course very wet and muddy with many fairways having long grass and fallen leaves present . This made it difficult to find your golf ball on several occasions even if you had played a good shot.
I can imagine it has been difficult to get machinery on soft ground to carry out maintenance but maybe there needs to be a bit more emphasis to carry out the work when the ground is firm. Some greens looked in need of maintenance but on the plus side there was fresh fluffy sand in the bunkers.
Muddy
Significantly shorter track this time of year whilst the mats are out. The course is how I remembered it when I played last year, extreemly muddy , the fairways have no drainage so bring a towel to clean your ball. Also lots of leaves on the course , so keep an eye on your ball, there was a 3 ball ahead of me that walked off after the 14 hole as they was struggling to find their balls they were extreemly slow.
The greens are semi decent. Worth a pint on a hot deal at £15 , just bare in mind of all of the above and you can make the best of it.
Flat parkland course with ponds and ditches
Flat parkland course with ponds and ditches in fair condition, greens were good as were bunkers albeit not raked but fairways were patchy and muddy in places, surprising given there hadn't been much rain. First time played and it was clear green to tee if you followed the paths. The cross fairways ditches were annoying as they often penalized a good shot and although not water filled, little chance of finding your ball due to the undergrowth. The flags were also problematic as there is no adherence to the normal colour scheme with reds sometimes at the back of the greens. Generally not worth the standard weekday morning price paid.
Decent challenge for average golfer
Value for money. Mid week pace of play is perfect. Able to get 2 ball round in just over 3 hours and we weren’t playing great.
Definitely recommended.
Great Course
Great 18 hole course, fairways are wide and mostly flat so good for beginners like myself. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to play the most frustrating game in the world
Course shouldnt have been open
Really dissapointing round last Thursday. Very very waterlogged course that shouldnt have been open for play. In spite of heavy rain the day before, no notification or signage of the state of the course and not a mention when checking in with reception. A great shame as the greens were in great condition. Planned on playing 18 holes but gave up after nine. Wouldnt play again until the summer sorry
Skip it
The greens were great. Hard, smooth, fast ish, although there were puddles due to the rain.
The fairways were awful, they hadn't been cut so were longer than the first cut.
Average, flat parkland course and a bit boggy
It's all a bit so-so. Only one dog leg to brighten up a boring layout. The challenge came from the long par fours which demanded a long second shot. The greens are relatively small but consistent and pretty true.
Play after late spring when the boggy ground has gone and the only disappointment left will be the staff who have no idea how to welcome and greet visitors.
