Nice course
The course itself has a beautiful layout. It is very hilly and shots can be difficult to plan out. Greens were nice and rolled true. Only downfall was the staff continued to work using blowers and mowers during tee shots. They acted as if there were no golfers on the course.
Great Course, Pace Of Play Was Terrible
The course was in great shape and beautiful being right by Lake Acworth, but the pace of play was terrible. I am unsure if it the layout of the course (a lot of Par 3's and short Par 4s back to back to where you had to wait for the group ahead of you to complete the hole before teeing off) that causes the back up or having tee times closely together. We would drive up to the tee box to then find the group in front of us waiting for the group in front of them to clear. Also, the group in front of us started off as a group of 3 and by the last seven holes (payed 18) had a group of 6.
On pace for 5 hour round
I play this course once or twice a month. The conditions are always pretty good, the staff is friendly and give off a professional vibe. Practice facilities are great and greens are above average, a little on the slower side but still fun and roll true.
PACE OF PLAY
I don’t know what it is about this course, it seems like tee times are so stacked that it’s almost impossible to get a round in under 4 hours. The past 4 or 5 rounds I’ve played have all been beyond 4 1/2 hours. It doesn’t make sense because there are marshals constantly patrolling the links. Today I just couldn’t bare it anymore, I left at the end of 14. At 14 we were at 3 hours and 45 minutes. From the 5th hole on, we waited for every shot yet a marshal came by and said, “Idk what your waiting on, fairway is open”, when I could clearly see a foursome 250 yards in front of us...
Golf could grow so much more if 4+ hours wasn’t a norm. Get these slow groups to allow faster play to move ahead. Put GPS on the carts for them to be monitored by marshals or something!
Absolutely the best
Best course we have played on in a long time. Beautiful fairways and backdrops. Everything was kept up nicely. Great location. Overall it just can’t be beat at this price. Definitely coming back. New favorite course.
Beautiful Course
Loved playing Cobblestone today. Every hole is beautiful. The fairways and greens were pristine. Some of the tee boxes need some work but not an issue compared to the rest of the course. Definitely one of the nicest non-country club courses I have played in Georgia.
Interesting course
The latest reviews were none too complimentary but were perhaps a little unfair. This is a really good layout with a number of holes running close to Lake Acworth so great views aplenty. There are some great holes but the course condition did leave something to be desired.
The fairways are somewhat spotty with a number of bare patches, and the greens were inconsistent at best, and boy, were they slow, a lot different from the practice green which rolled well. The bunkers were pretty awful with too little sand and the lining was showing through in more than a few places. I know because I found a lot of them!
Pace of play was the real bugbear as we had a couple of walkers in the group of 4 in front and they were set on taking their time for their military golf however many people were stacked up behind.
But, overall, this is a well designed course that is lacking a bit of TLC, and which could be brought up to a good standard pretty easily. Perhaps allowing less than the 285 tee times in a day - quoted to us on check in - would help.
Still excellent
2nd time playing in 2 years traveling and it is exceptional
Disappointing, as usual.
This is truly one of the greatest layouts in metro Atlanta, maybe all of Georgia. Sadly, Cobb County puts no effort or money into bringing it back to it's peak form from glory days years ago. Yet they continue to charge premium rates.
I keep hoping it will come back, so I play it once or twice a year and have for the last 20 years or so and it is never great. It's barely OK and a rip-off for $70. Last week I asked how the course was before I booked my time. Someone in the pro-shop said they aerated the greens on June 1, nearly two weeks ago and that they were in good shape, and he said the rest of the course was in great shape.
All lies.
While the green speeds were good, they were way too bumpy with tons of sand on every hole. You were basically guessing. The greens are in poor shape. As to the other "great" course conditions - they have 1, maybe 2 tee boxes that don't look like a bad muni course, and it's tough to find a flat lie on the tee box. Most tee boxes were bare and again, had tons of Sand. Bunkers have zero consistency, not across the course but in each individual bunker. Either too much sand or rock hard clay, within feet of each. And there isn't a lush fairway out there. Very firm and hard but you'll need a bulldozer to take a divot.
They want to present themselves as great public track but they aren't. And they never will be until the General Manager and Bobby Jones Links gets with someone at Cobb Country who matters and cares about this previous gem of a golf course, which is now just a beautiful layout, in a beautiful setting, sad has-been golf course. The general manager should be embarrassed.
If you want a premium public course in the Metro, try The Frog, the best public course in Georgia, or Achasta. At very similar rates, you actually get a premium golf experience. Even the updated Bobby Jones course is far superior. So disappointing. May try again next year, but I think I'm done.
Cobblestone is always a great venue! While difficult for high handicappers the course and its surroundings lend themselves to a fantastic outing! The green conditions presently are not perfect . Nevertheless, enjoyable and I look forward to the day when I'm able to bring my score closer to my personal goal. Hats off to staff!
