VERY spaced out course...
Rode the La Vista/Los Lagos combo from the Blues (70.5/124/6269) in 4H with a nice family from WA. Low 80's, sunny and breezy weather.
I was excited because I was getting to play a 9 I had never played before, the last public regulation 9 holes in the Palm Springs area I had never played. This course is less than 6 miles from my house. I never see them listed on any of the reseller tee time sites nor do I see them advertise locally. Not located on a major street, so it is easy to forget it is there when I decide where to play.
The course is in excellent playing condition. Most of the layout meanders through nice condo's and single family homes, other parts of the course were out by themselves in the wash. MANY tees are a long way from the last green, one of the most spread out courses I have ever played. Not an easy course, it wasn't super tight but had a decent amount of water. I did not dislike any actual holes, yet for the 2nd straight visit I did not really care for the layout. Uninspiring and somewhat boring is my take on the layout.
Tees mostly good, fairly lush, some with divot damage that could use maintenance.
Fairways generally lush and well maintained, good to play from.
Rough was usually 2-3 inches, recently mowed and you frequently had an okay lie.
Sand traps greenside were nicely maintained with fluffy sand. Waste bunkers you needed to be careful you removed all the rocks from around your ball.
Greens were excellent, quick & firm, almost too firm. They really rolled well, nicest greens I have putted on in several months.
The check-in experience was not good. They have 27 holes and run groups off 2 different tees when busy, and they were VERY busy today. Was about 6 people deep in line when I got there just before noon. Paid my $55 @ 12:07, they put with with a 3some teeing off @ 12:15. Should be perfect since I was ready to go, correct? That would be a no. The 3some I was paired with already had the carts and I have no idea who they are. There were probably 30-40 carts riding around with people finishing rounds, people starting rounds and people on the range. Lots of private carts with members who live in the community who may have been there for lunch. I was told I was starting on a different 9 in the pro shop than I actually did. I had cart numbers to look for but my group had long ago driven to the first tee. The layout of the course is bizarre, it is a decent cart ride from the clubhouse to two of the three 9's. It is a very long walk, which is what I had to do since they had the carts. Finally got there and a nice guy drove me to #3 tee, which was where my group was by the time I finally found and joined them. Once you finish, it is a long ride back in from #18. So I played holes 3-18, then luckily had enough time to go play holes 1-2 by myself.
Saw the drink cart once. No GPS on the basic carts. Busy driving range and a large putting and chipping area. I would occasionally play here if in the area, but wouldn't drive far to come and play this course. No recomendation.
Willing to Share our course with others.
Best publicly available course in the Valley. Okay, we are home owners on this course. We subsidize it. Do I want the general public overtaking all of my available Tee-Times? Of course not. But I'm wiling to share. It's a very good course. Sand your divots and fix your green marks please, or I will hunt you down.
Great value for a fun course
My wife and I have lived in the Coachella valley for five years, but remarkably hadn't played this course. We are so glad we did. The course in interesting: Pretty wide fairways, but plenty of water and sand. For July in the desert, conditions on the course were very good. Greens were fairly fast and true. It can be a long haul between holes, particularly to the 1st hole on the Cielo course.
The staff here is wonderfully helpful and friendly from the pro shop to the cart staff to the delightful server who looked after us in the restaurant after our round. Great experience all around!
Nice Course
Enjoyed a nice morning round on the Cielo and Vista courses. The course is made up of three 9 hole rotations. The Cielo and Lagos run mainly between the condos and the Vista is a combination of playing among the condos the open space of the desert. The course was in great condition with greens that ran true and quick. The fairways are perfectly maintained and lush. The price is discounted for the month of December ($60 before noon and $40 after 12 noon). Overall experience was great. We played in under 4 hours. The only drawback was real firm greens that sometimes didn't hold well...not sure if it was just the time of year or if they are like this year round. Great value for the price you play.
Good Traditional Layout
Played Desert Princess for the first time on a Friday in March. I had heard about this course from a friend who recommended it as a good place to play in Palm Springs.
Tee times are a bit unusual as the course only takes phone in reservations three days in advance. This makes it a bit harder to plan a round at the course as many courses in this area take tee times weeks or months in advance. It is good to visit knowing that tee times are made and not having to wait until the last minute to book.
The staff was really friendly and helpful on check in and throughout our stay at the course. Did not use the restaurant.
We found the course to be in excellent condition, the fairways were lush and green, tees and greens very well maintained. Greens rolled a bit slower than other courses in the area but once the adjustment is made, they roll true.
The layout runs among houses on these two nines (there are three nines at the facility) and the views are part neighborhood and part mountains in the distance. There are more scenic courses in the area but this was still a very enjoyable round.
Pace of play was at about four hours and we moved along well with little waiting.
I’d play this course again, it is not the longest or most challenging layout but it is very well maintained and has interesting holes that are enjoyable.
Stay away from this course!! Plenty other courses around!!
If you plan on playing golf in Palm Springs, choose another course. Tee'd off at 8:30 as a foursome and finished the front 9 at 10:15. On the 10th hole, one of the pro shop staff met us in the fairway saying that the president of the golf course was furious that we were playing so slow because 3 other groups were complaining. They wanted us to split up as that would solve the problem(there was no problem if we finished in 3 1/2 hours). My wife was frustrated and I was upset in how we were treated. I stopped our round and asked for half refund of our round and the president of the course refused and said members were furious at slow play even if it was under 2 hours for 9. If you are not a member, stay away from this course. Course was in okay shape, they were burning out the grass to start seeding tomorrow, but we knew that going in so that did not play a part in my review. The staff here is rude and have no clue about how to run a golf course from a customer service prospective. I've been playing golf since I was 5 years old and have not been treated this badly. If you treat guests this badly and only listen to members, then go private. Otherwise, the guests need to be treated the same.
Annual Event
Our club comes here once a year during the hottest time for the weekend. And I still love this place. You must get an early tee time during the summer. Unless you're able to golf in 110 plus heat, some of us can! I love the 9-hole links course, and mix that in with the other courses and you'll have a great day. Usually when we play eighteen, they'll let us play as long as we want. This course is very maintained compared to the other local courses. And yes it gets windy, but isn't that part of golf? Some people just wants a par round given to them. Staff is very courteous, and helpful. And since we usually stay at the Doral, it makes the weekend very enjoyable
Great Course for the cost
Not a bad course for $55. I stayed at the Doubletree next door, it was nice just to walk on to the course and play. Staff was very nice, like high end resort courteous nice.
Lagos was challenging and in great condition.
Cielo was challenging and a bit awkward on the first couple of holes. Not too worry though you are in a beautiful place playing on a nice course for $55 (off season) what could be better..
Nice course with some quirks
Played all three nines over two days. Most of the holes run between houses with long distances from green to tee, some are enormous. Also there are a few links like holes on Vista and one on Ciello which are fun to play, but VERY different and miles from anywhere.
Overall fun to play, mostly up to time except our last nine which took more than two and a half hours.
Beautiful course, well maintained and challenging!
This is one of the most beautiful courses in the Coachella Valley. Very well maintained with forgiving fairways and challenging lakes on many holes. Has 3- 9 hole courses with PGA rated tees including championship tees. Would highly recommend this course to any golfer of any level.
