Liked it so much, I'm heading back tomorrow!
This course allows me to use just about every club in my bag. We had a great time moving at a respectable pace. Come for the fun, sun, and clean air,
Nice mountain golf
Course has some nice open fairways which is fun for the bombers. There are a number of birdie opportunities which is always fun. Great views and terrain. A nice break from flat land golf.
nice course
another great day of golf at reasonable price through golfnow.
Missed oppurtunity
The Auburn area is a dynamic area when it comes to golf. Auburn alone has four superb courses. The first impression of this course was the clubhouse which was nice and well maintained. Unfortunately this is where the pristine maintenance ended. The courses biggest flaw was extreme over watering. I played this course in September with absolutely no rain for a month prior. In addition the tee boxes were overly fuzzy. Having to tee up irons higher because the club is catching the tee box is never good. The fairways were in good shape, and the rough was long and unforgiving as it should be. The easiest way to improve this course is simply better mowing. It just had a sloppy look to it. Overall a good layout with lots of uphill shots. Paid 50 online with golf now. Take your 50 down the road to Darkhorse or the ridge.
Great course, fun layout, but way to much OB
This was a fun course to play although you need to keep the ball in play as there is OB on almost every hole. OB is usually on one side so you can favor the other side which took me a few holes to figure out. The greens were moderate in speed but super soft. There was not a single hole which was side by side to another, although sometimes you wish there was instead of the white stakes. I thought this was a great course to play and a lot of fun. Was it challenging yes, however with all the OB there is some room on the fairways. Had a great time, thanks Alta Sierra!
Very nice course
I played during the week day and despite member play, the pace was excellent. Fairways were alittle wholly and that made walking the course a chore, but other than that, the course was in good condition. Lots of out of bounds, but not terribly demanding tee shots.
Alta Sierra is a hidden gem!
This course is an older style course, which is one of the reasons I think it's great. The holes are well crafted and the property the course designer was given didn't require the course to be tricked up. Every hole is right in front of you, but the place is challenging as well. The setting is beautiful at a good price, with a great facility in the pine trees of the Foothills. What more could you ask for?
This course was well maintained with great greens.
I was greeted by a friendly staff that made sure we had all the information we need to get a cart and know the local rules on what holes were cart path only.
I had brought three relatives from Southern California and they were quite impress with the beauty and setting of this course.
The course play was fairly slow for the time of day(1:00 P.M.),
therefore my guest spent a lot of time taking pictures of the trees and the background of various holes.
I will play this course again.
In-course OB on every hole
a fun course for weekenders and families. Layout features several good holes and challenging shots.
Course maintenance is average - some weeds on the tees, greens too shaggy and slow. And overwatered.
My primary objection is that virtually every fairway is lined with houses and in-course OB. You just never get a feeling of privacy and peace.
Love, love, love this track!
Grew up in Sacramento area and began playing the game at age 5 and played collegiate golf all over the western US. Other than playing a little short at times this is one of my favorite courses aand when you combine the layout, green speed and course conditon I think this is every bit as good as courses you pay "king for the day" prices to play. Need to be able to move it both ways and at times must fit the driver into tight tree lined fairways. Their are some elevated tees which provide some aesthetically pleasing hang time. Overall, when you factor in cost for my money one of the best bangs for the buck in northern California!
Good course, well maintained
I play the course frequently because it is around the corner from my house. The range mats are worn and not well maintained. Some of the staff are not real helpful Kacy is a great pro and excellent teacher.
They really need more water stations at the tees - only 1 that I remember on each 9, not even a faucet! Ball washers are sometimes not convenient to the tee.
Tahoe -like setting but not Tahoe -like prices. Excellent course for the money
the course was in great shape the staff was excellent the course was really challenging narrow fairways pretty holes and the views were awesome
five star because it was a fun course and friendly people
A course with interesting holes, varied fairways, and it gave the golfer a chance to make par or better. Course is located in a beautiful setting in the forest.
Great bang for the buck.
Alta Sierra is a semi-private country club set in the hills above Auburn. It is a challenging par 72 track that is just under 6800 from the tips but encourages shot shaping and driving accuracy on the tee to moderately paced elevated greens. It is well worth the trip out of the valley to play this property.
A beautiful course and country club conditions.
If you don't mind afternoon golf, this is a great find. A country club course for only $25.00 (depending on tee time) and a cart included. This foothill course is a great challenge with accuracy off the tee a must. Great views and staff. The greens are true and the fringe is even and kept well.
Great experience
A little remote, hidden in a hilly curvy road subdivision. Course in very fine shape, fairways cut diagonally like PGA courses. Very few golfers in P.M. We were the last to use their electric carts which were all being replaced by new ones. Ours looked like new, so in line with their overall attention to detail.
great mountain course
I like the serenity of all the ponds and wildlife. Isn't that why we all like golf so much.
Great feel, but lacking in details
The quiet CC atmosphere, up in the woods, is really nice. The course has some interesting holes, with great potential, but a few of the details are lacking. Most noticeably, the greens were very slow, there were puddles in the bunkers (with no rain), and a couple of the tee boxes were lumpy.
It was all pretty good, but I was hoping for more.
For similar feel, and better details, try Winchester.
Slow greens at a semi-private country club
I played solo this mid-Saturday afternoon round and was able to get around the very few golfers that were playing. The course has elevation changes with left and right dogleg tree-lined holes with some water. Although the course has difficulty, I was disappointed in the rather slow greens that the members like at this semi-private country club. It is worth it to play it at least once, but I will cross it off my bucket list since it is quite a distance from the bay area. If you do go, pay attention to the signs to the golf course or you might get lost.
Worth the drive.
If you get a chance to play this course, book it as it worth the drive to play a well keep course. You feel like you had just joined country club.
