Great place to play- Photo submitted by goody39420 on 04/18/2013
Memorable day of golf in an awkward situation.
After driving 64 miles through traffic, detour and winding roads, the course was closed by the owner without any alert or notice. The cart man was saying that he didn’t know why but there was nothing he could do. I explained to him that three of us prepaid through GolfNow and I wanted to speak with the owner. He said that I would have to deal with the GolfNow. He was not apologetic or even kind but acted just like the old DMV receptionist used to be. I told him that we saw some players on the course when we were driving in and he said they were the ones who started early before the owner shut down the course.
I asked him for the phone number for the owner and started walking toward my car, he said that he spoke with the owner and we could play and handed us the cart keys.
We enjoyed the course for ourselves the front nine then we noticed some other players on the course sporadically. The scenery was beautiful with beautiful flowers and some wild geese, ducks and a couple of deers. But the greens looked really bad with so many brown spots and bare areas. There was no sand in the bunkers and fairways definitely need some maintenance. Since the entire facility is locked down, including the restroom, we had to accommodate to relieve ourselves in the bushes. Awful way of starting a game but a very interesting and memorable day, thanks to the staff who went extra miles to allow us to play. WOW!!!!
Worst condition ever!
I like this course but today was a disappointment. I know we’re in a drought but that doesn’t excuse the course conditions. Fairways are almost all dead and most of the greens are in horrible shape due to some kind of infestation. THIS COURSE SHOULD CLOSE FOR THE SEASON.
Very Dry
Lots of grass that needs water. Some greens have a disease.
Bad
The fairways are dry and dying. The greens are even worse. They should not even be offered on golf now unless it’s for like 10 bucks!!
Course conditions
Auburn Valley has been challenged for some time on overall condition.
From broken mowers to unplayable winters it is so unfortunate.
This layout is beautiful, challenging and fun.
The course is currently burned out due to not enough water. Brown and dead fairways and greens that are half dead.
I will go back to play again regardless but it’s sad to see it in this condition.
Like playing on D.G.
This course was like playing on decomposed granite. The other golfers would comment when their ball landed on a patch of GREEN grass…sad. I would recommend watering the greens.
Great day
Played alone and had a fantastic time. No waiting and the course was in great shape.
Dry
The course was empty which was nice but it was dead in a lot of spots, pro shop was empty no goods to buy, the price is sky high considering how poorly its being maintained. It really seemed like it could be going out of business which would be a shame because it’s a nice layout.
Nice layout fun course
Tea boxes could use a little bit of love and the greens were a bit slow and hard to judge but the course layout is beautiful and it is well kept up on the fairways and greens
No difference between greens and fairways
I’ve played here a few times over the years. Never terrible
But Saturday’s tournament was a complete joke, hard to tell the difference between what they called fairways and greens
Greens were honestly the WORST I’ve ever seen. If you had a putt over 30’? You physically couldn’t hit it hard enough to reach the hole!
Probably should have chipped anything over 25’ I know they have to aerate but they’re horrible. I’d rather putt on my lawn!!
I’d say it was comical but $70 for my tournament was a complete RIPOFF!
Greens were at least 1/2” deep. Haven’t mowed in forever? Staff polite was really the only good thing. Call me in 5 years, maybe I’ll come back?
Nice and fun course to play
The couse is challenging and fun to play. The terrain has many The facilities are nice. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Greens were bumpy. What's going on with the ponds? Most, if not all, are covered with some type of algae. While the water features are an asset to the play, the murky algae condition detracts from the ambiance. Aside from these two concerns the course is fun to play.
Slow pkay
5 women were allowed to play as one group. By the eighth hole there were two holes behind.
