Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes.
The Mountain nine is probably the toughest of the three, with plenty of hills out on the course and plenty of slope on the greens. The Mountain nine also boasts a rare par-4 island green

Ant hills on greens
I have never played a course that had active ant hills on the greens, as did several greens on Royal. No sand in bunkers on Mountain. Several forward tee areas were not mown on Mountain. One bunker on Royal was driven through by some large vehicle. The course was obviously poorly maintained.
Course in Bad Shape
We golfed here last year and the course has really deteriorated since then. Several bunkers and rough areas are not being maintained at all and are growing in or dying Also the greens on the Mountain course were barely puttable. Very bumpy. Owners need to put a little more money into the course if they want us to come back. Definitely not worth the cost of golfing there.
Dirt
Our first 9 was the Mountain course which is obviously close to being reseeded But it was so dry and many holes were 50% dirt. The greens were hard pan and awful. The 2nd nine was Royal and in decent shape. But the pace of play was glacial. A course Marshall was needed. We play Indian Palms often andr this was by far the very worst day
Mountain and Royal conditions
Royal in pretty good condition. Sand bunkers not maintained. Greens needed a cut. A number of very bare, dry spots on tees and fairways, But, greens pretty nice.
Mountain is not at all maintained. Dryed out, no grass on greens or hardly any tees. Piles of debris all over. Not worth the green fee. They are holding off investing in maintenance until they close Mountain and open Indian but until then, give a discount.
It's Ready!
The course is finally getting in good shape for golf. It is an enjoyable course for all levels of golfers.
Feral Cat Warning
Lots of dead trees and dead bushes on Mountain 3. Signs for Feral Cat warning! Course is in crappy condition. Not even worth $35, p/p we paid. Don't bother... very disappointed. Dead brush should be cleaned up... which I had taken a picture. Plus our cart battery started flashing after playing 4 holes! Changed carts on 9. No one answered when we attempted to tell them the cart battery was low/flashing.
Good Place to Play!
As I have commented in the past, IPCC is a wonderful place to play when the course is maintained...it is now! It has a great history and is a course for all levels of golfers. It is a place for singles, families and all levels of golfers.
Rough shape
The mountain course was in really rough shape. Often hitting off gravel and rocks. The t boxes were very rough and not even or grassy.
It was a slow round. We had pushy senior ladies behind us who would hit their shot when we hadn’t even hit our second shot.
We were waiting on a group ahead so there was no where to go. The group ahead eventually let us go ahead of them.
Course maintenance needed on the mountain 9. Royal 9 in good shape.
Don't Play Mountain Course
There are 3, 9 hole courses at this location. I played the Mountain and Royal courses,
The Mountian course was first and was so bad I almost went home. The green were nonexistant. No grass, bare spots could controll a shot sometimes fast sometimes slow.
Throughout the fairways were brown spots. This 9 hole should be closed for repairs
The course wasn’t in good condition. Green has some rough spots. Sand traps were a mess. Grass too brown. Looked unkept. More money this year less beauty. Played meadow and Royal.
Course not in good shape.
Fairways/greens/tee boxes all very patchy and large bare spots. Sand traps without sand. Mountain 9 holes worse than Royal 9 holes. Very disappointed and felt charged far too much to play a course in this condition.
Indian wells
The mountain courses greens were in rough shape but overall it’s a fun course
Ruined an otherwise great week in La Quinta
Last day of golf, booked this course. 11:45 Tee time. Arrived at 11 to hit some balls and warm up.
-No welcome at bag drop
-No one AT bag drop to take clubs, ask what time we're off...you know, the TYPICAL things at a quality course?
-Carried our gear to clubhouse.
Upon entering clubhouse, advised man behind counter of our name and tee time. At that moment a "large" gentleman (whom we later were advised was the starter) burst into the area, yelled at the guy "you have to tell these people we are 2 hours behind!! We dont have any carts, there's too many players on the course..." and then stated "I dont know why they ("they"?) over book like this.
I interrupted his rant and said "Excuse me, did you say 2 hours behind?" to which he replied yes...we dont have any carts, they're taking forever to play 18"...
...and then he said to "come back in a couple hours".
COME BACK IN A COUPLE HOURS?
Seriously?
Out by the area where you would normally be heading onto the course, by the starter, large group of Asians, all milling about yelling loudly, pointing fingers...yelling at starter, who drove away in his card without a word.
Asked guy back in the clubhouse what happened he shrugged, "not sure"...I said "seriously, come back in 2 hours?" to which he responded "well, come back in an hour then"...
We walked out.
We booked this place because they advertise themselves as a "resort facility ...Championship golf course....recently undergone a three phase revitalization process to modernize the facility while preserving the historic integrity of the property"
You'd think a historic facility would know how to book their course by now.
By then (Noon) was too late to find anything...a Saturday in La Quinta.
Thanks guys. you left a horribly bad taste in an otherwise great 4 days. Never again.
Royal and Mountain 9s
Mountain greens (my front 9) were not mowed. Both the mountain and the Royal had a lot of debris like leaves, twigs, palm tree debris, and the like. Some dead areas on fairways and some of the greens.
Great History!
I would recommend IPCC to all golfers and all levels of players. The course is coming along and is getting better by the week.
Hanger 19 has great drinks and fantastic food, Currently, the kitchen is not open on Wednesdays.
Cart died
Out cart died after 9 holes and there were no carts available. it seems like they overbooked the course our start time got pushed back 20 mins.
I will not be going there again
