This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.

You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.

Eighteen of its 27 holes went through a massive renovation a few years ago. Some of the most dramatic changes are on the greens, once generally flat and small and tilting from back to front to allow the greens to hold shots almost to a fault. Many greens on the course today have been expanded to as much as 6,000 square feet.

The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).

The Mountain nine is probably the toughest of the three, with plenty of hills out on the course and plenty of slope on the greens. The Mountain nine also boasts a rare par-4 island green.

Course

I have played a lot of courses but this takes the cake

The fairways are very dry and hard

Greens need some very tender loving care, very patchy in some areas lot of dead spots uneven speed etc

Tee box’s majority had markers but some had only one marker some and markers missing

At this point this course is not worth the money they need to shut down and spend money to bring it back to the conduit deserves

A Palm Desert golf course with no grass

I booked this course online after reading what a beautiful course lined with trees and beautiful bunkers. When I drove to the first Teebox, I was in total shock. Starting with the Teebox, and going to the fairway, what little grass existed was brown, and very sparse. The greens were no different. You could not make a ball roll straight on the greens because of the mix of grass and dirt. What a disappointment and for $65 a waste of money.

Rock n Roll

Fairways are hard as rock, greens don't hold, results in roll, roll, roll, so hard to gauge distances.

Course layout is good but the course conditions are not. We paid $50 which was fair for the conditions with the cart included.

Greens are very in bad shape

Wasn’t impressed with the course conditions. Greens are in terrible shape, sand traps need lots of work. Fairway were ok but very dry.

Neglected Course

Have they given up? Tee box markers sometimes missing, hard to define from others. Lots of growth in fairway bunkers..lots of trimming and debris left on course...fairway yardage markers not consistent...

It’s better than it looks

Nice course getting over seedlings they’re doing a lot of work. Green still need a little work but it’s a good value. Considering all the other courses in Palm Springs area were closed.

Not a good choice

The course was bone-dry, greens were hard and the ball ran forever. Many of the greens appeared to have a case of terminal acne. The course is surrounded by homes, some very close to fairways to the point of the homes' backyards are effectively the rough. The layout of the Indian nine is at best weird and for a first-time player, hard to follow. Maintenance of the course overall was neglected. In the fairways, it wasn't lift, clean and place, it was lift and try to find a spot of grass to put the ball back down on. The range was closed and there was no place to warm up. There are much better places to play. Refunds are in order.

Golf course comment

Very friendly staff. New golf cart. The course was in rough shape. The grass was very dry with lots of brown areas. The greens were mostly chewed up and difficult to putt. The sand traps were packed down and unraked. Hard to get under the ball with any sort of control. Generally speaking it needs a lot more irrigation and more maintenance of the sand traps. Value for money - you get what you pay for.

Bad but not terrible

I was expecting worse with all the reviews, which are true but the course is still playable. Paid $45 which is about right for value. It was the only course available less than $60 on a Saturday late morning.
