Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Mountain/Royal
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.
Eighteen of its 27 holes went through a massive renovation a few years ago. Some of the most dramatic changes are on the greens, once generally flat and small and tilting from back to front to allow the greens to hold shots almost to a fault. Many greens on the course today have been expanded to as much as 6,000 square feet.
The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).
The Mountain nine is probably the toughest of the three, with plenty of hills out on the course and plenty of slope on the greens. The Mountain nine also boasts a rare par-4 island green.

Golfer Reviews
A very good course for the price
The course conditions need a bit more heat to grow in but it was certainly decent and we enjoyed and got full value for our money.
Nice course to golf
We found a Hot Deal in the morning and golfed at 11:44...great deal. The course was in ok shape...grass a little thin. It should be great in a couple of weeks. The greens are great! The bunkers were a little damp, but it did rain overnight.
Dissapointed
We played the Mountain and Royal courses. The greens are in decent shape but the fairways, especially on the Mountain course have little to no grass and you are basically hitting off of a hard pan. This is such a dissapointment because this golf course used to be one of the nicer courses in the valley. Pace of play was as fast as we wanted to go, because there was hardly anybody on the golf course and the condition was likely the reason. We laughed at the published course condition by the resort and the attached pictures as they differed from reality. Unfortunately. this golf course requires a lot of TLC to return this course to its previous conditions.
Not worth the money
Greens on Royal were in poor condition, better on mountain. Course charges $25 for a rider. Carts are broken down and in poor condition. No GPS. Go somewhere else
Very nice course!
IPCC has greatly improved over the past two months. Course is a good value compared to other courses in the Coachella Valley. Staff very friendly and Hangerc19 has great food.
course was in bad condition. the greens and fairways were brown on the front nine(mountain course). The back nine was a little better. The tee boxes were littered with broken tees . The only good thing about the course was the price. This was an example of getting what you paid for.
Beware
When I checked in for a 6.56 tee time, the aloof clerk did not mention that a shotgun start tournament was scheduled for that morning at 8 am. Luckily, I finished the front nine in less than an hour, BUT then I encountered the tournament. A helpful marshall suggested that I return to the front nine, starting on hole 2. So I managed to complete 17 holes. The "ladies" teeing off on hole one of the front nine were indignant when I drove through their teeoff emplacement, but at least they didn't try to kill me.
By the way, on December 6, 2022 the course was not in good shape yet, following the reseeding program. Not much grass anywhere, including on the greens.
So, beware!
Poor Conditions, Ok value at $50
Played Indian 9 and Mountain 9. One had been overseeded and one is closing for overseeding next week, though impossible to tell which is which. Little to no grass to speak of on either 9 in fairways or rough. I understand during overseeding things can be a little rough and mostly brown, but most areas of this course were bare. Greens weren't pretty but they were puttable and had grass. Bunkers were dirt/mud, but no sand to speak of.
Fairly tight course lined with houses or condos on most holes. And yes they are easily hittable! Overall for $50 you can have some fun as your expectations are low anyway for the price. Golf shop staff and starter both very nice and friendly. I've played probably courses here in the Valley and I would say conditions here were the worst. But again, for 50 bucks I'd do it again at some point.
Needs TLC
Lovely possibilities but today’s play had little grass & lots of dirt and straw. The Mountain course was in much better shape than Indian. Royal was closed for refurbish. Much more care and maintenance is needed to bring this back to it’s past level of playability. End of day photos are spectacular!
