Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Royal/Indian
About
This course dates back to the 1940s and carries a powerful history. Dwight Eisenhower and John Kennedy played many a round at Indian Palms, back when it was called Cochran Ranch. Eisenhower loved the place so much, he wrote his memoirs at the ranch.
You might become enraptured with Indian Palms' past. But the course itself has very much moved into the 21st century.
Each of the nines carries its own personality. The Indian nine is the longest, with the most straight-forward holes. The Royal nine features water on eight of its holes. (Yes, your break from water is one hole total).

Oldie but goodie
This was an interesting course and we could see the history of a course well used in earlier times. Some modulation in the fairways and challenging greens. The greens were well kept, the fairways were fine but a lot of work needs to be done on maintenance and cleanup, etc. A lot of water features. We love that but they could be cleaned up. All in all we would come back. Staff great and restaurant was wonderfully informal with good food and friendly staff!
Enjoyable course
Just a fun, comfortable, old fashioned (which is a good trait), solid course with confortavle character.
Don't play here
This course is not recommended @ any cost.
Poorly run and managed. Needs an extreme makeover. Been this way for years.
Good greens. Recently mowed, so pretty fast but doable. Rough manageable, and fairway very closely shorn. I’m a bogey golfer, so I’d rate the course as moderately difficult but still well within my comfort zone. On the day I played the starter allowed a sixsome out ahead of me and my partner and we were held up by that group. I think it’s crazy to allow a group of six players under any circumstances, but at a resort course during peak season in the desert? Really?
Never once saw a Marshall to monitor a large group like that.
Despite this, I played the course twice and had good time each day.
Golf outing
For the price, you would think the links would be better than what they were.
Meh
Fairways were hard without much grass. Every shot is a tight lie unless you move your ball to some grass. Tee boxes were not well marked on Indian. Houses are tight in several areas. Overall quite disappointing, unfortunately.
Flag placement for Red, White, & Blue flags
The standard flag color placement is RED is at the front of the green, WHITE is at the center of the green, and BLUE is at the back of the green.
I found it very frustration that I could not rely on the standard flag color placement because the colors were all over, e.g., a Red flag that I thought was at the front of the green was actually at the back of the green. This should be corrected.
Good value and pace of play. Course is in okay condition but needs some work. Nice mid level
