New favorite course

This was my second time playing St Mark, and I am sold. I really like this course. Great condition, great layout, challenging but playable. The pace is a bit slow but I love the course.

St Mark hit the mark

Very nice layout. Generous landing areas given the course runs through housing tracks. Greens were in great shape and the fairways were lush. Walking friendly with challenging holes (including a 600+ yard par 5). I'll definitely be back for more rounds.

St. Marks Golf Club - Great Condition

This course has come a long way since I played it several years ago. The greens are in fantastic shape and most of the fairways are, as well. Friendly staff and a great value. I will definitely make this course one of my regulars.

A good course.

The play was a bit slow, and the greens a bit fast. But overall a good course and a good value.

Good Value and nice greens

The fairways were in pretty rough shape, but the greens were very lush and receptive, giving lots of spin.

We went on a Monday, and I booked a two some on Golfnow, as I was going with my 10 year old son. We actually got a discount for him at the pro shop when paying - nice touch.

We were behind a 4-some of seniors, who played very slow (no marshalls). After playing the first 10 in about 3 hours, we asked them if we could skip ahead (skipped 11) as there was nobody in front of them. It took us about an hour to finish the last 7 holes.

This course has some mighty par 3s and 4s, in addition to some shorter holes. A couple par 4s were over 450y from the blues, and a 600+y par 5. I like that challenge when there are short exec courses for the same price.

When the price is right

Some irrigation issues with standing water throughout the course. That's far better than dry! The hog deal price makes it worth it.

Disappointing day.

We played last week, great pace of play. Today, slow play and twice there were two rude twosomes who leapfrogged ahead of us. The other two we were playing with said these rude people were members. If so, shame on them as they are ruining the course experience. No marshalls in sight.

Recent Greens Aerification, Temporary Green & Tee Overseeding... Wait 2 Wks

Greens were aerified and topdress in the past 7 days. Still moderately bumpy from aerification holes.

My complaint is that the GC Supt prefers to water the greens using the automated irrigation system rather than hand water the greens. The result is WET sand in bunkers and sloppy wet green perimeters. So wet, that mowers leave ruts or in some cases, areas just don't get mowed at all, leaving excessively high roughs and generally unfair rough heights.

So yes, the golfer is penalized numerous ways. Greens will require healing (don't play before 11/15) and slow play for lost balls that are either plugs or lost just off the green perimeters.

The 12th green has a temporary green placed approximately 50 yds in front of the regular green location. As an afterthought, a hole is placed in the fairways but turf is not mowed down nor is the cup cleanly cut, meaning, you won't be making any putts.

Tee markers are either combined with others to the front or very back of every tee to accommodate overseeding, which is understandable. White tees are either placed with the Blues or Greens.

It was very quick to play #3 hrs, 25 min) because there were so few golfers playing that day. That also meant, NO beverage carts or marshals either.

The course will be very good after the greens heal, the roughs cut and ryegrass on the tees kick in. Personally, I would wait about 2 more weeks before even thinking about returning, regardless of the price.

Fun Course...Greens in Rough Shape

I found this tee time on golf now at a great price, but there was not any notification that the greens were being aerated. I'm accustomed to seeing a warning on the golf now site alerting that aeration recently occurred or is occurring, but not this time. Would have been a great course otherwise.

ST Mark Colf Course

It has been awhile sine my partner and I have played at St Mark GC. The course has undergone upgrades to the driving range nd tee boxes. Both areas nee more time for full growth. The driving range was well used and will/ need more tender loving care soon. Most tee boxes were good and are experiencing lots of use and will surely be better next year as they will have a couple of growing seasons to mature. Modt greens need increased ball mark repairs as many players just do not care or will not repair their marks. Our group made numerous repairs to other players marks, but the course staff needs to concentrate on making the greens more playable. We will play again when time permits and wish to to a knowledge that the course has improved and the remodel efforts are paying off. I recommend this course to anyone wanting to play a good course with moderate difficulty. We did not experience food service, but could not change rating when inadvertently touching a STAR.

Enjoyable Round

Had not played this course in over five years. Teed it up with a buddy who had not played the course. We were both pleased with the conditions of the course and consistent roll on the greens. It appears the new ownership has invested in maintenance. One hole had a temporary green, but the expansion of the original surface is another indication of ownership's commitment to improving the course.

Great Fun

Played this course withe the wife and had a great time. Course conditions were good to great. The greens played fast and were in excellent condition except one green was under repair. The staff and other players were all very friendly. I can say nothing bad about the course and would recommend it to anyone that would want to play it..

Old School Golf

This reminded me of playing public golf 30 years ago. A very traditional layout starting with the red, white, and blue tees directly in front of each other. Fairways were good, with a lot of kikua grass around the greens. Many of the greens were old school smaller, with average speed.
The best part was how close the houses were to the course. You could hear the knocking of balls hitting roofs as you played. Marshall was very friendly

Great spot to play!

was blown away at how nice they staff is here, they brought me a cart in the parking lot, had ice in the cooler ready to go, so friendly and helpful, great conditions even with the drought and reasonable tee cost. only issue is the lower tee times cost brings lots of folks, do it was slow pace of play, besides that amazing time, will be back,

Updating

They are working on getting this course back in shape. New tee boxes, landscaping and tee markers. Lots of fairway repairs too. Greens were slow but in good condition. The best part about the course is the varied and unique hole designs. Different looks and not a lot of repetition. Don't go to sleep on difficulty. This course requires good course management. All in all a good place to play, and getting better.

Hidden gem

This course has been reborn under new management. The course condition is above many other courses in our current drought. While the amenities are ok, I really hope a club renovation follows the course update.

All in all, this is a great place to hone your skills while you are challenged by dog legs, bunkers and narrow fairways.

Getting there but a little short

St. Mark is a decent course with an interesting layout that is worth a spin if you get a fee deal.

Overall the course is pretty flat and it lacks visual interest. The tee boxes are bothersome, some are new and have a very hard pan that has become very uneven with rolls or bumps in it, making it tough to take a balanced stance without standing on a big lump, or leaning. Bunkers are hard and thin on sand. Personal pet peeve - Grass is very spongy, 4 inches of thick gnarled cabbage all around the greens. Hey you have to play on all types sure, but for me there is no true golf shot from this turf, just trick shots. Fairway grass is okay, but again hard with sparse grass. On the positive side, they are updating many elements and this may turn my fair rating into a very positive one when the changes are complete. The greens were great, fair and rolled true. They have a nice practice facility to warm up. Staff were great, carts are nice and for $25 w/cart that we paid its a good deal. If it were $40+ for now I would play elsewhere.
