Updating
They are working on getting this course back in shape. New tee boxes, landscaping and tee markers. Lots of fairway repairs too. Greens were slow but in good condition. The best part about the course is the varied and unique hole designs. Different looks and not a lot of repetition. Don't go to sleep on difficulty. This course requires good course management. All in all a good place to play, and getting better.
Hidden gem
This course has been reborn under new management. The course condition is above many other courses in our current drought. While the amenities are ok, I really hope a club renovation follows the course update.
All in all, this is a great place to hone your skills while you are challenged by dog legs, bunkers and narrow fairways.
Getting there but a little short
St. Mark is a decent course with an interesting layout that is worth a spin if you get a fee deal.
Overall the course is pretty flat and it lacks visual interest. The tee boxes are bothersome, some are new and have a very hard pan that has become very uneven with rolls or bumps in it, making it tough to take a balanced stance without standing on a big lump, or leaning. Bunkers are hard and thin on sand. Personal pet peeve - Grass is very spongy, 4 inches of thick gnarled cabbage all around the greens. Hey you have to play on all types sure, but for me there is no true golf shot from this turf, just trick shots. Fairway grass is okay, but again hard with sparse grass. On the positive side, they are updating many elements and this may turn my fair rating into a very positive one when the changes are complete. The greens were great, fair and rolled true. They have a nice practice facility to warm up. Staff were great, carts are nice and for $25 w/cart that we paid its a good deal. If it were $40+ for now I would play elsewhere.
Enjoying a nice summer afternoon
Really good conditions from tee to green considering the drought that we're in. Most of the course was still a shade of green. I even landed in a few bunkers and the sand was very playable. Much better than the last time we played about 6 months ago. Plays through a community of homes so lots of OB if you're spraying. Considering to add to our rotation
Course in great condition
Well maintained course, not many brown spots. Greens are nicely manicured too. Reasonablely priced on Golfnow.
Great Twilight
The course was in absolutely fantastic condition. The greens were in amazing shape and the new landscape is awesome. They've turned this once rundown course into a true jewel in North County.
St Mark's GC
I had a very enjoyable round at. ST MARK'S. Everything was great even. The pace of play. Looking forward to my next round here..
Nice surprise!
Nice variety. Very fair course. Only complaint was the group of six that played in front of us for several holes. One of the benefits of membership, I was told. Still, overall it was a good course, and I'lll be back.
Excellent course
Greens were slow and bumpy..but the course quality and the pace was great. Recommended highly ..its not an easy course.
Much Improved!
It has been several years since I have played St. Mark. The course is in much better condition than I had remembered it to be. Greens were pretty true and medium fast. Had a nice time!
Keep Up the Good Work St Mark's
They continue to make investments in the course and it shows. Several new tee boxes since my last round there. Greens are in good shape.
Thanks for a nice round at an exceptional pace!!
Fun course to play.
Challenging course with undulating greens. Greens still a little bumpy. They are redoing some of the tee boxes and working on the course. Good pace of play. They have a dogleg left par 5 measuring 609 yards to an uphill undulating green. Will go back just to par this hole.
Improvements are in progress
on this outing, greens and overall course are in better condition. Many tee boxes have been replaced making your golf experience much more enjoyable.
Review
The course is much improved since the last time I played 2 years ago. Sandwich, frys, beer& tip @ $25.00 for lunch is too high. Staff attitude is excellent.
Warning Construction Area
There are a lot of improvements underway. This course is coming along very nicely. New Tee Boxes, Nice Architectural features and hopefully some Fairway attention as well.
Just in time for Spring!
Course was in good shape.
Had a very enjoyable day. Appreciate the care given to the course... fairways, bunkers and greens all in good shape. Not to mention the weather which was pretty much perfect.
Great course, horrible pace of play on 1/18/15
I really enjoy this course, except for my experience on 1/18/2015. The course overbooked tee times, I thought something was off when I noticed tee times were duplicated on the golf now website. Only got one hole in before waiting at the second tee box for a half an hour for the groups ahead of us. They had a group of four in front of us and everyone had a golf instructer. No way we were gonna finish 9 let alone 18. Just went home after one hole.
Water springs make for on course mud!
Last month there was 3 inches of rain in San Diego County. That's a lot for the desert! That filled up the underground water in the San Marco's area and the natural springs found around the golf course or losing their excess water into the turf making it soft mod. The staff reports that it should be in 2017 at the course will be modified to get rid of this problem. In the meantime, for a month or two after significant rainfall, then the course will have a lot of mud.The staff here is very friendly, the driving range chipping green and putting greens are well-maintained, and the restaurant here is very popular – although I have never eaten here.
