Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club

About
Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

Fun executive, cool property
First off the price was so cheap I didn’t know what to expect. What a cool executive 18 for the price ! Super fun par 3 course with a cool range putting greens and even some cool little children’s golf areas for those w little ones . The staff at the shop was top notch . Very cool , very friendly. They took the time to come out and show us around the grounds . They even had a really good food truck with outdoor dining onsite . We will definitely be back soon after the exceptional hospitality and fun time on the course ..
Rancho Carlsbad
Small fun course. Easily walkable. Good for dialing your wedges
Good value and the people playing/working the course are real nice people. Good place to get out and get outside. Greens were in great condition on most holes.
No shirt, no shoes..No problem
The course is tiny. Just need a sand wedge and putter. One hole you may need an 8iron. The first while we had a guy his wife and 5 year old and his dog playing in front of us. Then we play through and there are 3 shirtless shoe less men putting for 20 minutes. I don't recommend it but the food at the little trailer was really good and the staff were cool.
Rough conditions and layout
Greens were aerated and sand. Layout has you hitting towards other tee boxes.
Tree trimming
I love playing the course. When I got there today only the front 9 was open due to tree trimming. This is the 3rd time this has happened and I travel a bit to get there. I will not play when only front 9 is open. It is impossible to play. There is a lot of waiting. I am suggesting for the 2nd time that we be notified by e-mail when this is happening. I will now call every time I am going to play so that I don't waste gas. Thanks for listening to me.
Short & fast
Show up with a 7, 9 & wedge and you’re fine. Could use a hybrid on 2 holes if needed. Fast to walk (2 hours), even waiting on each hole. Two groups allowed us to play through so that helped. Definitely a beginning beginner course.
Nice, relaxing vibe for 18 holes
Only down side was the greens being buried in sand. Other than that, we had a nice day out for 2.5 hours.
Slow greens but challenging
We played here on a Saturday and it was very busy. Greens are small and rounded so your chips will roll off the green if not placed right at the center of the green.
Several fairways have gopher damage and hard dirt.
Fairly cheap for this area and worth the money to play. Just be prepared to take 3 hours for a par 3 course.
No posted women’s league and children’s summer camp golf, so we couldn’t play straight through. Terrible experience.
Great PAR 3 when not in Maintenance
Back 9 was CLOSED
Front 9 Heavy Sand on GREENS
Opted NOT to PLAY
