Golfer Reviews
A very good value
I played at 2 pm with a GolfNow hot deal. Course is in great shape fairway to green. Course layout seems to favor lefties with a fade or righties with draw. I prefer the back 9 layout over front 9 but not by a lot. Only minor complaint was I could not get a true roll on the greens... a bit of a bumpy ride to the hole but I suppose that had more to do with grass type and time of day I played. Definitely try this course.
Great golf experience for the money.
Great golf for the $$. Easily permits of a three hour 45 minute weekend pace. Notably friendly staff. Course apparently short, but interspersed with a few long holes, and many of the holes made very challenging by wind and course layout, all make this par 71 course a significant challenge, yet affording playability for golfers at all levels.
Greens Need Work
Overall the course was in good shape. Except for the greens. The greens are spongy and inconsistent. Not to mention they don't roll true. I played here two weeks ago too and they were still bad. They need sand and rolling badly.
Spongy Greens
This course is in great shape accept for the greens. The greens hold approach shots well but are really spongy. This causes the ball to hop all over the place and not hold a line. Very frustrating when you are putting well but give up strokes. Maybe if they sanded and rolled the greens the putting conditions would improve.
Tuesday special
Course was in excellent. Pace of play was slow due to one foursome holding up everyone who did not or were not capable of going any faster
Very Friendly Layout
Convenient to Palomar Carlsbad Airport.
Greens were very nice; soft and well kept and the fairways were well and simply laid out.
No surprises no disappointments!
great course setup
nice course & greens are all elevated & in good shape.
Wide open resort type course
Generous fairways, but some tight pin positions will keep you on your toes. Fairways in pretty good shape, tee boxes could use some work, and greens are excellent, perfect speed.
Nice course to play.
Mid Afternoon Outing
Book a 1:48 tee time on a very hot day for two. The pace of play was great! We played 18 holes in 3 hours. Greens were in in excellent shape. Overall a very enjoyable outing on a hot day in San Diego.
New favorite course
This was my second time playing St Mark, and I am sold. I really like this course. Great condition, great layout, challenging but playable. The pace is a bit slow but I love the course.
St Mark hit the mark
Very nice layout. Generous landing areas given the course runs through housing tracks. Greens were in great shape and the fairways were lush. Walking friendly with challenging holes (including a 600+ yard par 5). I'll definitely be back for more rounds.
St. Marks Golf Club - Great Condition
This course has come a long way since I played it several years ago. The greens are in fantastic shape and most of the fairways are, as well. Friendly staff and a great value. I will definitely make this course one of my regulars.
Easy, simple, super friendly staff
Booked a last minute tree time, great deal , no trouble at all . First time at this course everything great :) they even let 3 singles merge together keeping 3 carts that's convenience
Good Value and nice greens
The fairways were in pretty rough shape, but the greens were very lush and receptive, giving lots of spin.
We went on a Monday, and I booked a two some on Golfnow, as I was going with my 10 year old son. We actually got a discount for him at the pro shop when paying - nice touch.
We were behind a 4-some of seniors, who played very slow (no marshalls). After playing the first 10 in about 3 hours, we asked them if we could skip ahead (skipped 11) as there was nobody in front of them. It took us about an hour to finish the last 7 holes.
This course has some mighty par 3s and 4s, in addition to some shorter holes. A couple par 4s were over 450y from the blues, and a 600+y par 5. I like that challenge when there are short exec courses for the same price.
When the price is right
Some irrigation issues with standing water throughout the course. That's far better than dry! The hog deal price makes it worth it.
Disappointing day.
We played last week, great pace of play. Today, slow play and twice there were two rude twosomes who leapfrogged ahead of us. The other two we were playing with said these rude people were members. If so, shame on them as they are ruining the course experience. No marshalls in sight.
Recent Greens Aerification, Temporary Green & Tee Overseeding... Wait 2 Wks
Greens were aerified and topdress in the past 7 days. Still moderately bumpy from aerification holes.
My complaint is that the GC Supt prefers to water the greens using the automated irrigation system rather than hand water the greens. The result is WET sand in bunkers and sloppy wet green perimeters. So wet, that mowers leave ruts or in some cases, areas just don't get mowed at all, leaving excessively high roughs and generally unfair rough heights.
So yes, the golfer is penalized numerous ways. Greens will require healing (don't play before 11/15) and slow play for lost balls that are either plugs or lost just off the green perimeters.
The 12th green has a temporary green placed approximately 50 yds in front of the regular green location. As an afterthought, a hole is placed in the fairways but turf is not mowed down nor is the cup cleanly cut, meaning, you won't be making any putts.
Tee markers are either combined with others to the front or very back of every tee to accommodate overseeding, which is understandable. White tees are either placed with the Blues or Greens.
It was very quick to play #3 hrs, 25 min) because there were so few golfers playing that day. That also meant, NO beverage carts or marshals either.
The course will be very good after the greens heal, the roughs cut and ryegrass on the tees kick in. Personally, I would wait about 2 more weeks before even thinking about returning, regardless of the price.
Fun Course...Greens in Rough Shape
I found this tee time on golf now at a great price, but there was not any notification that the greens were being aerated. I'm accustomed to seeing a warning on the golf now site alerting that aeration recently occurred or is occurring, but not this time. Would have been a great course otherwise.
