Slooooooooooooooow!
Blustery Saturday round. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Course in fair condition, but very muddy. Greens appear to have a fungus and pretty bumpy. We were unable to complete 18 due to the incredibly slow pace of play. Marshall should have the power to enforce the rules regarding slow play. Golfers need to regulate themselves regarding proper tee to use. If you shank every drive, or top the ball 20 yards, please do not play from the tips! You look foolish and slow down everyone behind you.
Really nice place
Course was pretty backed up due to frost...can't blame them for that. Staff were very friendly...free range balls due to the delay. Greens were in very good condition, although the usual non fixing of people's own pitch marks. Couple of amazing holes , I'll for sure play again.
Fun day
Fun course... a bit water logged saturated but that was due to the recent rains.
I recommend this course to family and friends:)
Perfect round
Play on a slightly rainy day. Finished in just over 2 hours. Course can be overbooked on weekends but is always a great value!
Not the experience I read about in other reviews
We were here on a business trip and wanted to play a round of golf. We needed rental clubs and was told they had the new Cobra sets. Got to the course and rental clubs were a JOKE: non matching sets with beat up heads and slick grips. My set didn't even have a 3 wood, and the driver sounded like the face was cracked. Luckily my golf partner rented clubs as well and we were able to piece together DESCENT clubs to hit for most shots. Putters from this decade would have been nice. Most of the staff was friendly, only one gentleman working the counter came across rude. The pace of play was RIDICULOUSLY slow. The Marshall (only saw one, once, the entire 3 hours) was more concerned with the rakes being placed back in the bunkers than the fact that it had taken us 45 minutes to play the first 2 holes. We literally waited on every tee and every approach shot for nine holes. Described here as "some of the best greens in San Diego" needs to be re-evaluated. I've played greens that were aerated that had more grass and rolled more true. We paid for 18 holes, but left after nine as it was a complete waste of a rare trip to California for us.
Golf
Excellent outing - nice course, nice people , good value and pace was good . Sub 4hr round on a Sunday
Poor conditions
Half of the greens in horrible shape, large bare dirt sections. Fairways inconsistent with dead spots, crab grass etc. I don't recommend this course at any price.
Great course!
Beautiful wide fairways! Well maintained and a pleasure to play. Played for $35.00. Was worth it
St. Mark - getting better everytime
I usually play the executive course at St. Mark after work and have been impressed with the changes they are making, so I decided to give the big course a try. I must say I was very impressed. The course was in excellent shape, staff was very friendly and the value couldn't be better. I'll definitely be back.
Watch the houses along the fairway and try to hit th ball straight
Course is well maintain very friendly staff. some of the holes are challening only because of the narrrow fairways.greens have just been punched, greensshould be in great shape in a few weeks.
Pretty well kept
Fairly flat, fairways greener then most so Cal right now. For Sunday play the greens were terribly inconsistent, plus had a lot of disease. Very difficult to gauge speed from one to next. The rough around the greens were punishing. A couple of novelty type holes. But over all fun. I would play again.
Excellent value for money
Extremely friendly staff, course suitable for all levels of players.
Nice course... except..
I had not played here for several months.. I was surprised and very disappointed at the condition of the greens.. patchy, bare, and brown areas were the norm. I can tolerate brownish Fairways... but sub standard greens are unacceptable...
Not bad if you get a cheap rate!
My wife and I played Oct 13th, had an 11:30ish tee time. Last time we played here was 2+ years ago when it was Lake San Marcos, now it's St. Marks Country Club. The course design hasn't changed much. We stopped playing there because course conditions were so bad that it was a joke to be called a golf course! Since the 'new name' course conditions have improved quite a bit. Most of the course had grass, and green to boot! The rough wasn't too tall that you couldn't hit out of it. Sand traps were excellent condition, best part of the course!! The fairways had grass, about 60% of the fairways had good grass, the rest was so thin and hard it was hard to hit off of. The greens for the most part were not in good shape! All of them looked good from a distance but two thirds of them had bare spots and looked bad! About 4-5 greens were in good to veyr good condition! My wifes biggest complaint was the womens tees were too close to the blue tees where I hit from on quite a few holes! We played for under twenty-five bucks and decided we'd go back but wouldn't be willing to pay more than that!
First Timer
I had never played the "new" St. Marks when it was Lake San Marcos. I had stayed away because friends told me it was a bad track. However, since the new owners have taken over I decided to give it a try. I thought the course was in very good shape. Some holes are very easy and others are very difficult. I can't remember which hole it is on the back nine but it is a LONG par 5 measuring over 600 yards from the blue tees. Very difficult with a very small undulating green. Anyway, I enjoyed my day even though I played horribly. I would recommend this course to friends.
For sraight drivers
tree and house lined fairways show need for driving accuracy. Mostly small greens with false fronts. greens somewhat hard to read becuase of hills and valleys
Great course
I play here often and always find a new ways to get around the course. A lot of holes offer multiple ways to get in. Varying pin placements and Tee boxes also add to the challenge. Always leave wanting to come back and try something diffenrent.
Hot day but well worth it
Course was well maintained and enjoyed the round as the staff was friendly and the timing of the starts allowed us to finish the round in just over 3 hours. Great value and close to my house. Will play again soon.
Enjoyable outting
The course is a nice course that weaves around the housing community. Pretty open but there are houses on both sides so sometimes one might get in the way. I enjoy it very much and will play there again.
Much improved except for the name!
I played Lake San Marcos for the first time in over 2 years and was impressed. Not a fan of the Hoity Toity name change but I'll get over it. Everything was much better from a few years ago, paved cart paths, nice fairways, greens and bunkers. Even the traffic heading home on eastbound 78 was better... LOL LSM is definitely back in my North County rotation, especially with a great hot deal.
Agreed, played here 11/22, "some of the best greens in San Diego" is a complete joke!
