best deal in north county!!!
15 dollar walking rate for an 18 hole par 72 course is the best deal out there
I didn't play the course because of the poor, dismissive and condescending service I received upon sign in!!!!!
You can never make a first impression again!!! This golf course made a very poor first impression and I didn't even play it!!!!
My over all feeling is this course is over run with very old male golfers and staffed by young males that show no respect or patience for the public that may be new to golf. I will never recommend this course or wish to play it.
course needs a lot of attention.
Bald fairways, mediocre greens, grassless tee boxes... It's a waste of time and money.
Amazing turnaround!!!
I never wanted to come back to this course because of the previous conditions. As golfers, we need to give credit where credit is due, and this course has done a complete 180! It is in very good shape except a handful of areas. Good job St Mark!! I will definitely be back. Great value for your money.
Needs help
I found the staff to be very friendly, even in so they brought a cart to the car to take the clubs. The course needs some critical attention. The fairways are a combination of bare spots and crab grass. Yardage markers are very few and far between. One that I did find was way, way off. It will take practically no upkeep to at least paint lines on the cart paths for 50 yard intervals. Also, I use golf shot GPS, thus I'd the first course I've played that is not available.
The wind was blowing, so made it tough.
Wind off ocean made some holes real tough. From blue tees this course is a real challenge. Greens run beautifully, and many have slope. Improvements with new owners. Semi private so "Members" can be snobby but staff is awesome. Play was slow but not awful.
This course has the greatest potential.
This is a great course for beginners and offers several challenging holes for an advanced players. The greens roll at a good pace and its nice to see the imporovements with the carts and paths.
Great course, slow groups ahead
This course is in good shape for the price and the staff is very friendly. The groups ahead of me were playing very slowly though .
Especially good for walkers
The course is very well maintained, and very green from watering. Mostly flat except for one big rise to hole 14, but it's somewhat gradual because playing 12 and 13 begin the rise. Bunkers are not as much defensive as they are a penalty for bag shot. A few place where water is in play. All in all it's a very enjoyable course that doesn't beat you up on every hole.
Enjoyed each hole being totally different.
Thought that the course was well laid out. Mostly forgiving except for a few holes. Looking forward to playing the course again and will suggest to our Men's club at to schedule a road trip to St Marks.
Great turn around with the new owners.
The new fairways are great and im always looking forward to the walk, of course they also have new carts.
Well worth the money
They have been doing lots of work on the course and you can tell. Some of the holes play long from the blues which make it challenging. The green are normally fast plus a lot of hole placements are placed on the slopes. You want to be below the hole because it tough to stop it coming down. Well worth the money.
This is more like it!
I've played the Lake San Marcos North Course several times, and was always disappointed in almost everything - the attitude of the staff, the conditions of the course, even the condition of the carts. I had seen many lousy reviews on Yelp, and they were pretty much accurate. Based on this, I somewhat hesitated before going back, but with new ownership or new management (or both) and the name change to St. Mark, I thought - OK, I'll give it one more try.
Boy, what a difference.
The staff was friendly and attentive. The carts are brand new. The cart paths have been repaired and repaved. The course is in really good shape, and the greens were immaculate. The prices were player-friendly, too.
In other words, everything that was wrong before has been fixed. We played a thoroughly enjoyable 3.5 hour round, enjoyed a very affordable craft beer at the 19th hole, and we will not hesitate in coming back. I'd recommend to anyone to give this course a try - I think you'll like what you find.
Nice job, St. Mark. Very nice job indeed.
The greens are in tremendous shape
The new owners have worked hard on the course. It is in the best shape it has been in years.
Tight course, well maintained.
St Marks is a great course for the leisure golfer. The front nine is fairly flat and perfect for walking. The back nine is mostly level except for two holes that lead you up a steep hill to a par 4 with what felt like a 100 ft descent from the tees to the fairway. This course plays really tight in some spots. In many areas the homes are within "striking distance" on both sides of the fairway which will be very challenging (and nerve-racking) if you are a hacking bomber (like me). I played most of the holes with my hybrid off of the tee. Overall, I enjoyed my round since i played with my wife (novice) and the course is beginner, ladies and senior friendly.
convenient for playing
the range is improved quite a bit, and so the course itself. The signature hole, however, is getting less attractive, as the water plants in the pound were removed. In general, this course is in better condition.
St. Marks. The staff are so very friendly; the very best.
Love all the work that the new owners have accomplished at St. Marks. The new carts, new pavement, new sand traps, watering, etc., etc. Great job!
Play it again, Sam
What a difference a year makes! Played this course a little over a year ago. I said, "I'd never play it again!" A friend played it just after Christmas (2012) and encouraged me to "give it another shot." I'm glad I listened: *180 degree turn around! It was a joy to play, and the pace wasn't bad. My only complaint: rate quoted on golfnow.com does NOT include cart. Make sure you know that going in. I've got a bad knee and have to ride...just didn't plan on the extra $12.00. Will play again, when I can walk it!
Not bad.
Not bad. But $15 a person for a cart is lame. Course could use a little help.
