Good Course good value
took advantage of Golf Now 20% discount to get these rates. Its usually more. The course was in great condition. Staff are super friendly. Played under 4 hrs.
Thinking of going this club membership.
.St Marlo CC
Greens are not in good shape. Carts are old and parking brake had to be finessed to work
Greens Stressed
Our 4- some had a good time. Pace of play for a Sunday was excellent 4.25 hours.
It appears the heavy rains has impacted the course: many areas of erosion/drainage issues; and greens looked stressed as very soft.
Not what it used to be
The best part of this course is that the cart girl was very friendly and provided great service. The course condition was abysmal and the staff has completely let this course go. I have played St. Marlo multiple times in the past and was great but will not do so again, not even close to being worth the $60 round.
Way overpriced
The greens were fine, but more comparable to a $40-45 round than $70. The course looks fine, it is not patchy in appearance, but it feels like there is no where good to hit the ball!!
Even if you hit the target/landing zone of a fairway there’s only a 30% chance you end up with a good lie on flat ground. Everything else rolls to a muddy collection area or parks on the side of 45 degree slope. It’s just not fun to hit a great tee shot and then get to your ball and realize you have no chance.
That being said, there is a fantastic practice area.
Very tough course!
Excellent condition. Course in great shape. Greens still recovering from. Aeration, but still very good. Certainly one of the nicer courses around.
Worst high dollar course around
Never been so disappointed in a high dollar round. Grass in bunkers, unusable tee boxes, greens punched and did not inform you. The hedges and landscape looks like they haven’t been maintained in years. Weeds all over the landscape beds and can’t even walk down the entrance path without overgrown shrubs getting in your way. Cool course and layout. Fairways were excellent! Practice facility is way nicer than the course conditions. I would advise saving your money till they put some money back into the course. Unfortunately we did not take any photos.
Grounds keepers, rule the course
I titled this review groundskeepers rule, primarily because if the course is in great shape literally it's the groundskeepers that do so the groundskeepers that punch the greens roll the greens practice areas did an outstanding job. Therefore the course play beautifully and just as it would have the greens not been aerated and punched. My friends beat me to a pulp shot of cool 90 and will be back many times again. Second to get kudos at st. Marlo's, is the cart team from the baggage drop-off area to the course parts are always in great shape clean and sprayed down. Because I'm not a wealthy man my tips are always the expensive Pro V1 and any other Pro expensive ball that I find on the court is always left in the basket just for them.
Could be a lot better
Course layout is really nice and has potential to be worth the asking price. I paid $75 for a Monday mid-morning round. Too many details that are not being paid attention to for that much money. Greens and tee boxes were the worst ones I’ve seen this year. Some tee boxes were completely dirt and the greens were so marked up with ball marks, there’s no way to get a true roll on them. Sand traps were empty of sand and actually had grass growing in some of them. Saw the cart girl on the first hole and that was it. There are plenty of other courses around that are in much better shape for only $35-$55. I decided to “treat myself” to a “nicer” course and was sadly disappointed I paid double what I usually pay for a course with conditions likened to a public municipal course. Will not be back this year and would only go back if someone else was paying or drastic changes were made to the conditions of the course. This course is worth $40 a round at best in my opinion.
Condition deteriorated from last time I played
It’s been a couple years, and I was disappointed in course condition. Sand traps were unplayable…more like concrete than sand. We’ve had a lot of rain, but clearly bad drainage and no real ground crew attempt to rehabilitate. Also, the water features that used to make this course feel more upscale (like waterfall on 12) were not working and overgrown. Feels like tough times at St. Marlo.
Cart path only on this day but the course was in great condition
Ball marks not repaired, Pace of Play 5.5+ Hrs.
The course is nice. Pretty decent shape with the amount of rain recently. But the pace of play was poor. And it seemed as if repairing ball marks doesn’t happen. Maybe because people just try to pick up the pace, by not repairing. Need a Marshall making sure pace of play is up to par.
