Ball marks not repaired, Pace of Play 5.5+ Hrs.

The course is nice. Pretty decent shape with the amount of rain recently. But the pace of play was poor. And it seemed as if repairing ball marks doesn’t happen. Maybe because people just try to pick up the pace, by not repairing. Need a Marshall making sure pace of play is up to par.

Course

The course was in great condition. It was cart path only. That should have lifted as the temps hit 95. And the course was dry. My buddy lost his PGA towel. We asked the starter if anyone found one. He just laughed and said a towel? I guess he did not understand.

Unacceptable

Made a 3pm tee time for my son and I today. It was his birthday. Neither of us had played in a few months. On the first hole, we waited to tee off until the group in front of us cleared. I had a six on the hole and my son hit 2 errant shots, that we didn’t bother to look for, and picked up. On the second hole, my drive was wide right and my son hit a nice drive. I didn’t even bother to look for my drive and to keep things moving, I just dropped with him. As we were getting ready to hit our second shots on the second hole, your ranger approached us and asked if we were beginners. That he had complaints about our slow play and if he had to talk to us again, we would have to leave the course. On our second shot on the second hole with no one in the tee box. Are you freaking kidding me? We decided to leave at that point because we didn’t want to be harassed the rest of the afternoon. His attitude stunk. His excuse was that he was just doing what he was told by the pro shop. As we rode in, the group behind us that we were allegedly holding up, was still putting on the first green. At the pro shop, the older gentleman, and I use the term loosely, was unapologetic. Even after I explained that we had picked up and not even tried to look for lost balls, his reply was that he had 50 golfers behind us and we must have been playing slow. The younger gentleman with him was somewhat sympathetic. Bottom line is that I have never been treated as poorly in my life in a situation where I was a paying customer. You need to train your staff or get new people. Their conduct is unacceptable and reflects horribly on your club. Be sure that my son and I will tell as many people as we can about our experience at St. Marlo. We won’t be back anytime soon.

Soggy but great shape

Had to play cartpath only and cartpath could use some repairs but the course is in great shape if only people would repair their ball marks.

Play here if you like disappointment

Playing here multiple times I always leave thinking, “this could be a fun course, but disappointed in course conditions and staff.”

If I can save one person from wasting their money and more importantly their TIME here then this review has done its job.

Pace: 6hrs+ (not kidding)

- Second time I have left in the middle of a round here

Conditions: You can tell they are not paying to keep it up

- Greens really bad, fairways are decent, tee boxes are poor

Personnel/Staff: lazy

- Sarah the cart girl was very nice

- Marshal/other are grumpy (they are frustrated)

Grounds: Looks like a public park with no landscaping from mud to bushes overgrown everywhere.

Layout: its there but not fun with the conditions

Cost: $75+ (Zero value)

- If they charged $20 dollars I still wouldn’t come because I who wants to play for 6 hours

Hope this helps.

For the money I was very disappointed. No range balls. Grass growing in some bunkers, and the greens had obviously taken a beating. I have played here many times and this is the first disappointing round I’ve had.

Beautiful course; well maintained

Really just a beautiful course. In particular the greens were in great shape. Just a nice, quiet course, nicely laid out, and beautifully landscaped. I will go back, again at the next opportunity.

Worth Every Penny

From the young ones that took my bag from the trunk of my car, to the pro shop, to the starter (a wise man), to the ones that put my clubs back into my cart, CLASS, CLASS, CLASS! Wonderful experience, and apologies to the gorgeous home I bounced off of. Do not let this course pass you by! Challenging, but also fun!

Regarding St. Marlo Country Club.

It's awesome and great course layout, but the green conditions should be improved a little bit. I want to recommend this course to my friends and buy a family membership.
