Aeration alert
The lower ratings are due to temporary condition of the aerated greens and the ever present and seemingly unsolvable poor bunker conditions.
Course is mostly green from the rains. Tees and fairways are all lush. There are still many off fairway areas with dirt. The rough was consistent just off the fairways.
The greens were recently worked and are probably another 2 weeks from being without sand/tine marks.
The previously empty "ponds" are now actually ponds with water which add to the aesthetics and challenge. Bunkers are as usual hard hard hard.
Fun and inexpensive.
Shot my first par round ever!
The course after all the rain is actually in great condition. There are some areas that are still blocked off drying out. The greens roll true and the fairways are pretty good. I had a great time as a single meeting up with a couple. The weather was perfect and the course is fun with challenging pin placement. I recommend this course very much. Great value for the price.
Beautiful putting greens
Beautiful fairways with a great challenge to make you go better and every swing
Super fast greens
Make sure you call before you head out. We had to walk the front 9 due to the soggy conditions. They have a limited number of push carts to use.
Fairways are a bit muddy but playable, and the greens are in great shape and fast.
Very nice greens,
Enjoy golfing here but too many times the sprinklers are on during the day when we are playing. Once I was concentrating on a put when a sprinkler hit the whole front of my body. I was a little upset.
Another thing is the sand traps. They need new sand, Most of them are full of hard dirt.
No pressure
Golf course good shape, greens perfect for average player suprizing good shape for the cost. Course has few tight fairways n nice dogleg holes for good players and enough open straight fairways for older/beginner play. Very relax country atmosphere staff very nice great food n drink, pro shop very well stocked with quality products.
Good pace
Good pace of play green nice and fast
Great course
Biggest issue was with the grounds crew, they were watering a green while we were on the tee box on a par 3. He didn't stop even when we were putting.
2 things...
1)bunkers are rocky dirt, absent of sand.
2)if you like having sprinklers turned on in front of you making wet conditons on a dry day, this is the course for you. It wouldn't hurt to hold off on the sprinklers a little while to allow people to play through.
If they fix these 2 things it may be worth the price. Otherwise don't bother unless you can get a cheap mid week deal.
Update
My last review extoled the return to better conditions. I am sad to say that since my last round here they have gone backwards.
The greens were shaggy with areas of severe ball damage, although compared to where they were in the recent past, they are playable.
The tees were hit and miss with some bare areas and some that were not mown at all for IDK how long.
The fairways were the biggest step backwards with anything from dead areas to soggy muddy overgrown wet areas.
The bunkers, usually rock hard but at least smooth, had been fluffed but then were left to return to being rock hard and now had the added trouble of having the crusty furrows. Many had standing water in them (when it averages 100 degrees with no rain this is a big problem)
I still recommend this course as the layout and price are good, but I am not sure why they can't seem to get the conditions back to previous levels.
Course is ok for the selection in the central valley
I like the course better then fig garden or riverside. The carts are wicked slow! Overall it a bad deal if you get the $28.00 rate. Definitely not worth the $44.00 rate. This probably explains why the course is always pretty dead! Maybe offer a better rate, get more golfers and invest more money into the carts. Just saying.....;)
Nice first time experience
Aside from having to wait on a makeshift fivesome, who took their sweet time on the front nine but let our threesome pass at the turn, it was a nice first experience at the course. Greens were in relatively good shape. The bunkers are hard as rocks. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Hot valley courses are tricky to maintain, but if you go knowing what to expect, you will not be disappointed. Plus, there is plenty of shade.
This is a fun course to play
The course is in great shape and they do a good job to keep the play moving so that you can finish in 4 hrs on a busy day
Enjoyable Outing
Course was in good shape
Staff very friendly
Pace very good
All in all a nice outing :-)
Great Day!
Awesome weather nice fairways and greens Great Day
Greens are coming back
Good pace of play after a fivesome let us through. One of the players left after 4th hole and they let us pass on the 6th tee. I'm assuming he was the catalyst for not letting us go, as we were pressing them as a twosome from the beginning. He LITERALLY stood in front of the 1st green for two minutes after the group had finished the hole.
The greens are finally coming back and are playing firm but med/slow. The fairways were quite long and in some areas unkempt. The off fairway areas were a mix of good rough to spotty to bare. It definitely looks like they are heading back in the right direction.
Overall rating of two comes from conditioning, which as stated is returning to form and from the ever present problem of rock hard bunkers.
Good to know that this fun course will be a viable option again.
First and last time there
I booked 18 holes through GolfNow and everything went poorly as soon as I got there. I arrived 35 minutes early to check in and get a bucket for the practice range. After I had checked in, I attempted to purchase a bucket of balls for the range and I was notified by staff that the practice range was closed because it was "too wet." It was just the morning dew at best, but really not wet as far as the range was concerned, the course was a different story. A cart was included in my booking and I was notified by the same staff member that carts were only allowed on the back 9, so I had to play the back 9 twice, and it's a mandatory 90 degree for the back 9. With only a small amount of cars in the parking lot, the back 9 was very crowded because there were very few walkers. None of this information was warned about on the booking site or anywhere, just by the staff member. If I had known about this before I booked, I would not have booked this course at all.
The grass on the tee boxes was very overgrown. There are a crazy amount of weeds on the green, and they try to use the green's lawnmower on them and it appears flat until you put, your ball makes random direction changes that weren't in the read. The sand is very hard packed, not fluffy at all and then grounds staff is inconsiderate with players. I was making an approach shot to the green (and there are no players behind me for at least 4 holes) and the multiple landscapers would not stop working so I could take my shot.
This was my first time here and definitely my last time. I would not recommend this course to anybody.
love the layout.
okay let me start with the pros.
pro shop was the most friendly staff ive ever dealt with.
gave my threesome yardage books and was super helpful.
love the layout, fairways were smooth, wide, and striped up beautifully, decent size greens. nice length rough, especially around greens. easy course to walk. the greens that were mowed were fast and smooth. good bunker placement but they were full of water or hard packed from the rain the day before.
cons:
golfnow did not inform us of airification, not all the greens were punched but the ones that werent didnt get mowed, this led to alot of inconsistency in speed and roll. when we got on the back nine the mower went ahead of us and jumped around. in total we played two holes that were mowed.
it rained pretty hard the day before we played so there were no carts aloud on the front and cart path only on the back, so i just walked, but the pro shop gave us push carts free of charge, another plus to them.
my biggest complaint is when we were done with our round it was 4:00pm and we went to go get food, we walk in and there are two men sitting at the bar drinking, the tvs still on and all the lights still on, i asked for a sandwich and the bartender told me they were closed. every golf course ive ever been to the facilitys close at 5:00, i think the girl was just being lazy.
the fairways were very soft so we didnt get any role and had mud balls all day, but thats not on the course or golf now.
overall its a great beautiful course and i cant wait to go back once the greens heal. i cant really complain about the conditions due to weather but golfnow really needs to have an airifcation notice.
Greens suck!
The rest of the course is pretty nice. Greens are in bad shape due to what seems like weeds or patches of something growing within in the greens grass. Not able to get steady straight putrs unless you use a faster putt speed to make ball go straighter. If it wasn't for greens subparagraph conditions, the course would be all 5 stars.
