The cabbage patch
I have played this course more than a dozen times over the last twenty years or so. I was told by one of the grounds keepers that sometime last August that some chemical was applied to the greens that severely damaged them. They had eighteen temporary greens for a long period of time, however now they greens are back in use and they are ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE ! They are totally infested with weeds and unputtable. I will. NOT be back for years !
WHAT HAPPENED?
THIS USED TO BE A NICE MUNI COURSE, NO MORE. RIGHT NOW ITS A BIG MUDHOLE WITH HORRIBLE GREENS. I HOPE THEY CAN GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT.
Greens needs work
Corse need works. Fairways, sand traps in great shape but the greens were horrible. It was like putting on a plenko board. I guess according to the club house the new seeds didn't take back in the beginning of nov. but then didn't reseed after and left how it is. They were doing a lot of work on fairways which is to be expected during winter but couldn't believe the greens where in just bad shape after 3 months of reseeding.
Not worth it
The course was not well maintained. The fairways were muddy and the greens were choppy and almost unplayable.
Bad greens
Madera used to have some of the best greens in the valley but some Einstein decided rework the greens this winter and ruined them. Very poor decision. I wouldn't play this course again until at least Feburary or March. Also we should have been notified about the conditions by Golfnow before booking.
Greens desperately needs help
Trying to put on those greens are like, on land mines!
good
Good course greens under repair will play there more often
not inform of greens
Golf Now did not inform that greens were under repair, discount was Cheaper at course.
Terrible
The greens are in terrible condition, also I grabbed the wrong cart by accident and the Club pro came out screaming like I stole something. Asked for a refund at thus point, but they refused. Terrible course.
False advertisement
I thought I scored a deal when I purchased this round. My first choice course had a tournament and my second choice had the greens recently aerated. I was very disappointed to find out when I showed up that this deal was cheap because they also aerated their greens. There was no indication of this in the advertisement. Disappointing day putting on sand :(. Breakfast burrito was great!
Lacking greens
Right now the greens are being refurbished, not very true, they play like playing on linoleum, fairways are in pretty good shape, but I wouldn't pay over $20 w/a cart.
A good muni course
This course is in pretty good shape for $20. Golfnow is a lifesaver when it comes to booking tee times as a broke college student. As long as you don't get behind a foursome of seniors, the pace of play isn't bad. Decent bang for your buck.
Nice features
We liked the trees, vineyards, and wide fairways. Too bad smaller lakes went dry.
awsome
This is a great course for those who want to improve there game for a great price, and awsome rate of play. it is moderate to difficult course, the conditions of the greens are always good, fairways always very well maintained, only complaint would be golf carts feel like there always going to die.
Update
Always a fun course that can produce low numbers. See previous review for additional info.
Overall - Average design and conditions with very good value.
Pace - Good, 4:30ish on a Sunday.
Course conditions - The drought is evident all in and around the course. Range is void of grass in the target area, but green on the tee ground. The course greens(some tine marks left) and tees are all in good condition. Rough is basically dirt with an occasional patch here and there. Fairways are thin but play well with some bare/brown spots. Bunkers were poor, hard with little to no sand. They are doing a good job of reducing water usage and keeping things playable.
Staff - Good, Friendly and helpful.
Value - Excellent, Even for the valley where prices are lower than Nor/So Cal this course has better pricing and deals than most.
Food - Average, Small bar/grill with typical offerings. They can ramp up the offerings for banquets etc.
Facilities - Well maintained with large areas for tourneys/events. Good patio with views of several holes and golf action.
Nice Place, Good People
The course is located in vineyard country. Flat but with the greens built up enough to give contour and breaks. Water comes in to play on the back nine. Staff is great, food is very good for a municipal golf course. Greens are fast. Of the golf courses in Madera and Fresno Counties in this class, this one is the best. Price is good, play is well paced and greens are always in grea tshape. Give it a try.
GolfNow mistake?
I usually book a Tee Time on GolfNow.com. When I went to check in the attendant told me he had no time for me. I pulled up the e-mail and he eventually found the Tee Time. I don't if it was GolfNow.com's fault. He did accommadate us and get us on close to the Tee Time we booked it for...
Nice Course in Central Valley
Received a great deal to play here and decided to play at this course for the first time. Not hard to lose a ball out here. I only had 2 penalty strokes and lost 1 ball. The 2 of us blew through the front 9 in 1:45 minutes but then caught a 3some who played very slow so we finished the back 9 in 2 hours, still not too bad. Greens were in good condition and fairways were greener than other courses. I was very happy and will be back ASAP.
Good coures, slow play
Playing as a single , I was somewhat disappointed in the groups in front of me{ not letting me play through}..No marshall to speedup play ..and the worker, saw me on the tee and just ignored me , he proceeded to drag his hose over the green and water in front of it..I understand he has a job to do, but I did pay to play, I just picked up on that hole and went to the next one..But overall, I liked the course and the pro shop personal are great
