Golfer Reviews
Shaping up for the season
Sharp is playing pretty well now that the wet season is over. The holes across the road ALL have the flags on the real putting green. 2 holes I noticed have been altered in their respective fairways. They have added more heavy long grass / marsh. So it challenges you to lay up / risk rewards / or play smarter. I snagged a good price using GN rewards.
Fun course, good value
Played in the afternoon with a GN hot deal. We are visiting the area and played a week before. Course is drying out and a little better this week. Some fairways still soggy with high grass. Tee boxes need to have the grass cut. Its been a while since the rough has been cut...very long and juicy. Nice course, but the maintenance is only OK. Greens are bumpy on the back 9 because there are different types of grass. Pace was OK...a walking 2some was slowing down 3 or 4 groups but they were clueless. No marshal on the course so we made the best of it. We love the layout and feel of the course...could be great with some investment.
Terrible upkeep
No doubt this course was once a gem, but now it’s a cow pasture. Weeds are everywhere, even around the clubhouse. Cart paths are extremely bumpy. Carts are old and are in need of repair of damaged parts. Took almost 3 hours to play 9 holes so we left early. No refund for free fee or cart fees. Bathrooms are barely approachable . . water and papers on the floors. Overall, not a good experience.
Where does the money go?
Course was in terrible condition. Slow pace of play. Unpleasant staff that always makes you feel like they are annoyed to check you in.
Sharp has so much potential, it’s just a shame they put literally zero effort in.
8 of 18 holes are closed
Whose fault is it? I paid for 18 holes on GolfNow but only played 10 because the other 8 were closed (as in flooded). GolfNow did not mention this detail at the time of booking, and the golf course did not take responsibility when we checked in.
Don't waste a good day
When we arrived we found out that only holes 1-10 were open for play. The rest of the course is still closed from the storms. (Nothing about this when I booked the tee time on GolfNow) The course was in terrible condition. You would lose balls on fairways since they have not been actively cut to a reasonable length. I played a few years back and the course was in much better condition than now
COURSE 1 TO 10 HOLES OPEN
I PLAYED ON 04/08, 1 TO 10 HOLES WERE OPENED, REMAINING ARE LOSED DUE TO POOR CONDITION.
I PLAYED FILL PRICE BUT ONLY PLAYED 10 HOLES.
Rainy conditions messed this course up badly
Rainy conditions caused maintenance not to be done (thick mud and tall grass). Nice shots into the middle of fairway are almost impossible to find due to high grass. Extremely muddy in almost every hole besides 1 and 2. Will come back when conditions get better, possibly in 6 months
A weathered Alistair McKenzie
Decided to golf another Alistair McKemzie this week given its Masters week and I have been playing Northwoods quite a bit.
This course was in bad disreapir due to all the record setting rains and storms the bay area got. I just wish that there was some online prescence as I would not have some until it was ready, the fairways were not even mowed and I lost 3 balls in the middle as it was US Open 2nd cut deep in the fairways.......3 greens were closed and temp pins were in play....I gave up after 5 holes and 3 balls......Only thing I am complaining about is that GolfNow still had deals on and the course which is operated by the Parks system in San Fran had no alerts up.
I will try it again though when it is repaired and in full operation, looked and felt like an Alistair......hope this helps someone else
Course should have been closed
The worst condition of any golf course I’ve ever played. They should have closed it instead of taking money from the I expecting
