Awful Course, Stay away
The greens are half grass half dirt. The fairways are half grass half mud. The tee boxes are rounded mounds and the only thing green on them is matted down clovers or weeds. This is not even the worst part of the course.
I have played here twice through golf now. First time, I show up (with my friends) 15 minutes before our reservation and guess what? There was a company scrub tournament scheduled that day and the "pro shop" forgot to tell GolfNow and take the tee times off the site. So after paying the brokerage fee, we and 15 other groups (all raging at the pro shop for having their time wasted) stay there and wait for the poor attendant to find a way to refund everyone for the time and money wasted to come that day.
The second time was on Presidents day. We reserve a time through this site and show up 15 minutes before our tee time. The only reason we play this course is because its cheap for San Francisco area (even though the course quality justifies the rate) we walk up to pay and find out that we are being forced to pay considerably more because there is a "holiday rate." Even though they have a partnership with this site that sells tee times to people at a promised price, they seem to not care and charge more to groups when they show up. After complaining they tell me "take it up with golf now or the city of San Francisco."
There is no starter, no marshall, and no one encouraging quick pace of play. Our front nine took 3 hours and 15 minutes. We didnt stay to finish most of the back nine.
Stay away from this course!!
Better than expected
Checked in early on a Tuesday and the staff were more than happy to accommodate me. Joined a twosome and the round took just under four hours. Fairways were in decent enough shape, a little muddy in spots. Surprising with our lack of rain. Greens were much better than expected. Definitely going to play here again. Staff were very polite and helpful.
Not worth the money
Being a past resident of Pacifica I have played Sharps several times. The greens didn't have the usual ball marks but the amount of grass on the greens was very thin and patchy, if you like to putt on dirt this is the place.
Lucky to have Sharp Park in Bay Area
Sharp is like a friend who is always there when you need them. I always walk on pretty much anytime of day and end up playing with some really nice people. Lots of locals. Alistar McKenzie design minutes from SF features links style and wooded fairways. Wind is generally a factor and the scenery can be distracting. Range finder/GPS a must. No driving range but there are some nets to hit into pre-round.
After your round head to La Mordida for a huaraches. Decent taqueria in an old Taco Bell northeast end of Pacifica.
Sharp Park
I would have given 4 stars but holes 4 - 7 was closed because of recent rains. When I booked it through Golfnow, there were no mentioned that four holes where closed. The pro shop did allow us to repeat holes 1 - 3 & 8 to make up the difference. The 14th hole was partial under water due to the rains. I wold have not booked it if I knew the conditions were this bad.
Save your money
After all this is a $42 muni course in Pacifica so don't want to beat them up too bad. I would recommend driving to a better course and save the money. This course needs lots of TLC before I would play again. Greens are in pretty bad shape but better than the fairways. People were nice and pretty much locals members I meet and talked to.
I've play mostly muni courses and this was the worst one so far.
Great day
Perfect weather made for a great day. Greens not in the best shape.
SF owned Sharp park, ailing.
recently played sharp 10/27/2014. Much like Lincoln park in the city, sharp is suffering from SF.s seemingly 100% policy of no water. course is hardscrabble, hardpan. And that's just the greens. I would wait till after a rainy season to play this course again. shame.
what do you expect
For the price I paid, I didnt expect the course to be in good condition. But the pace of play was horrendous from holes 4-6. 3 groups waiting on tee box......enough said. No marshalls in sight! Took 5+ hours to finish. Wow'zers!!
Sharp Park GC
Sharp Park is a great place to play if your primary consideration is a great walk with great views of the ocean and the Pacifica hills. If your goal is to play a great course with groomed fairways/well maintained tee boxes/smooth greens you be a bit disappointed.
Sharp Park is a great place to play for the value and the atmosphere of locals "golf hangout".
Not the greatest conditions, but more than makes up for it with the views and atmosphere. A unique golf experience.
Remodeling
Currently remodeling the course. For $50 bucks you'd expect to a better course. They are remodeling one of the holes and because of this a tee box is in the middle of the fairway, and so is the green. It's frustrating when there are courses around that have similar pricing, but conditions far surpass this. Golfers beware!
what a bad course
It is a really bad course, poor made putting green, poor maintenance of tee-box, even no water in some ball washers, what a careless operation.
Great layout, nice course, great value!
Love this old historic track. Great layout that has a great flow to it. The greens were recently sanded and were too slow, but will be very good soon. Nice pace - we never had to wait on anyone and no one waited on us. The 4 holes across the underpass are reopened and despite temporary greens on two of them, all four are beautiful holes that are challenging and fun to play. Can't wait for the permanent greens to settle in. Hard to describe, this course just has a really nice feel to it.
course management
I can't believe this course turned down money in these times. The course has 4 holes closed and few used to rent cart because of maintenance. I asked the guy parking carts what type of maintenance he was performing and his response was the pro shop guy just told him to put them up whatever he says goes. No maintenance was being performed on the carts. I am concerned about the management decision because it doesn't respect those who are disabled and need to use a cart to get around the course. I am a disabled Veteran who likes to get on the course for exercise by the way I have 2 bad knees bone on bone and a cart helps me get around the course. I just moved to the area and I will not recommend this course to anybody based on management decisions. I will spend my money elsewhere

nice value
great value course.4 holes were closed, but still worth it.
The grass is not greener on the other side
The four holes in the canyon are closed for two months. The fairways are very dried out, the greens are slow and too hard to hold an average approach shot. However for the price ( I paid twenty dollars) to play 14 full length holes it's not too bad.
Forgiving Seaside Course
Sharp Park has long holes flanked by beautiful cypress trees. You can hear the ocean on the back nine (and see it if you climb up the hill along side of a few of the holes. The course did not seem extremely busy, but backed up severely on the holes across the road from the club house. Overall a pleasant course, great value for the money, and forgiving fairways that bounce the golf ball far even when your swing is off.
Worked for me !
No problems - great time. I love this Alistar Mac course. A real GEM.
What would MacKenzie say today?
Renowned designer, course was designed 80 years ago and also perhaps last maintained. It's not expensive, some scenery with nice pines, and wetlands adjacent to some holes. I can't say the holes were very memorable but there are some nice holes. I kept thinking what a nice course it good be with better turf conditions. Still I would recommend it.
Nice walking course
My husband and I really enjoyed spending Sunday afternoon playing golf at Sharp Park. We walked the course, which was excellent for walkers. Lots of shade and ocean breezes. Our round was nearly 5 hrs, but it did not really feel like it. We moved nicely through the first 9 holes with very little waiting around. Back nine was slower, not sure why. The greens were in beautiful shape. The fairways have been impacted by the draught - this course would be exceptionally beautiful if more water could be used on it.
