Gnats and bare patches

$45 with a cart. Can’t beat the price. Make sure to bring deet spray for the back nine though. Holes 11-16 came with a constant buzzing of the at least 20 gnats swarming around me at all times. (No exaggeration) Couple bare patches in the fairway and a few patches taken out of the greens too (no idea how that happens, but there you have it) Tee boxes were nice and level. Layout can definitely be challenging, but apparently fair (if you’re better than me at hitting it straight anyway) Given the price though, definitely worth it.

Oh. They also recently punched and sanded the greens, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking about there soon. 2-3 weeks from now, the greens should be great. (Except for the parts on a couple that almost look like divots)

PUNCH in the Gut

This was my first time playing at Vineyard. I teed off at 8:30 and was surprised to find so many areas of the course saturated with water. But what was more surprising was the aerated greens. There was no alert on the Vineyard website or social media, nor was there a notification when booking the time on Golf Now. The greens were in poor condition following the aeration procedure and did not roll true. They were soft and held any approach within feet of the landing spot.

When checking in at the pro shop, I asked if it was a walkable course because I prefer to walk when playing. The front desk told me that I should ride because of the terrain on the back nine. While this course may have some undulation, I would say it is extremely walkable with only a couple holes where it is a long walk from green to tee. It would have been a much more enjoyable experience to walk instead of ride by myself.

The course is challenging but I found myself hitting the same/similar clubs on all of the par threes and on many fairway approaches. There are some holes that require a precise tee shot where driver is unnecessary. Many holes run parallel to one another, so errant tee shots may be played and recovered from a neighboring fairway.

Ok for recent over seeding

Fairways ok, greens just punched and full of sand and holes. So tricky to putt, but understood the why. Layout was interesting. Not bad for the price.

Cancellation

I called to cancel tee time with pro shop, the guy who answered the phone canceled me out but said Golfnow might charge me. I woke up with a fever and not feeling well. Guy never asked why I needed to cancel my tee time. For the safety of other guest, the tee time cancellation should go until 1 hour before your tee time for covid symptoms only. For the safety of other guest.

Disappointed that I was not informed Greens were Punched and Sanded

Very disappointed I was not informed in any way that the greens had recently been punched and sanded. As such, the ball jumped around constantly on its way to the whole, rendering putting useless. As a plus, the bulk of the remainder of the course was in fair condition given the recent heat, and the staff is absolutely amazing. Pace of play was a shade over 4 hours for a mid-day Wednesday round. If you can get a good rate, it’s certainly not a bad track, just be aware of the greens for the next few weeks, and download the Vineyards app, as they have removed the GPS from the carts.

Beautiful!!

First time playing here! Beautiful course and very challenging if you don’t know the layout of thee will holes. A lot of water, but it made it fun! The front 9 greens are in pretty bad shape with bad divots and gashes in the greens. My guess would be from the local residents hitting on the green at night and not fixing any divots. We were first off and at least 10-20 divots marks on each hole.

The back 9 holes are in tremendous shape!! Overall great course love the layout and we will be back again. Definitely worth the money and the visit,

I have traveled up and down the 15 fwy for years and had no clue it was right there off the freeway. Hidden gem!!

Good Course

Nice course...one of the greens was tore up a bit, looked like train tracks running through the middle of it. But other than that, was a nice course. Teed off at 6:20, and was done by 10, with a foursome, that wasn't particularly fast.

Uber playable

I found this course set up for general amateur play about as good as it gets. Fairways and green conditions above average of courses I have played in San Diego and definitely equal to the amount charged for green fees. Rough was very good...reasonably long and pretty much free of the ugly spongy crap that alot of public courses think is necessary for penalizing a shot that misses the putting surface. Overall this course is very good value for your playing dollar.

All good, but....

The whole course is in great shape and lots of fun to play, but unfortunately, many people do not repair divots on the greens. They looked like battlefields, so our putting was not as good as it should have been.

Not in good shape

There were a few things that disappointed me about the course yesterday. First, and utmost was the pace of play. It was a Tuesday and there was no excuse for how slow it played. We sailed through the front nine yet caught the group in front of us and from that point, we had to wait roughly 10/15 minutes per hole and that's a problem!! And it's a problem that should have and could have been fixed with proper marshaling. What's worse is that they actually had a marshal on the course and I addressed it with him! Aside from that, the course itself was in rough shape. Many courses right now seem to be lacking and they blame it on Covid but I call bull****. It's an industry that has boomed during the pandemic so why aren't they maintaining things? They sure aren't charging less. Many of the greens were a mess, tee boxes were very long, fairways were patchy and dead in many spots. I think letting things like that go are going to make it really tough to get back into shape :(

Ball marks

I have never seen a course where the golf etiquette of repairing divots in the fairways and ball marks on the greens was so poor. Some greens had dozens of unrepared ball marks. Our golf cart divot repair bottles were both empty - maybe due to covid? Other than that it was an enjoyable experience.
