Mountain View at Callaway Gardens Resort
About
Callaway Gardens boasts two different 18-hole golf courses, but it’s much more than just a golfing destination. Situated amid the southernmost foothills of the Appalachians, the resort was created in 1952 as an educational, horticultural, and recreational facility. The mission was to embrace the beauty of the natural environment and preserve the natural resources offered by the wetlands and forests. Playing either golf course you’ll be surrounded by pristine landscapes abundantly filled with native wildlife. The Mountain View Course is the longer and more challenging of the two. While it may not have as much water as the aptly named Lake View, the Mountain View golf course will truly test your shot-making abilities with narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and several tricky doglegs. One hole where you’ll encounter water is the signature par-5 sixth, where both the tee and approach shots are over water.

Great hole! Photo submitted by dongolf0123 on 04/21/2014
If you want US Open conditions with ANY shot off the fairway by inch’s in which you will never find your ball this is your track… absurd- we are low double digit players and could not find shots that weren’t in fairway or on green complex … no fun- cut the grass
Thick Rough and Lots of Golfers Impact Pace of Play
The course was packed so the pace of play suffered. Fairways and greens are in good to great shape. The rough is too thick however. A drive just off the fairway is hard to locate without spotters. It felt like what the US Open rough looks like. That’s fine for tournament play but tough for novel golfers enjoying a weekend round of golf.
Disappointing
The course was pretty. Great layout, fairways and rough were great. Bunkers and greens were ATROCIOUS. The greens were some of the worst greens I have ever played on. They were not well maintained at all… looks like someone took a shovel tip and just annihilated the greens and you can tell they haven’t been rolled in forever. The course was worth the $80, but the greens were worth about $20. If you’re looking for the experience then this course is one to mark off the bucket list. If you just want to play a round of golf then I’d definitely go elsewhere, cause you will just leave frustrated. I will probably come back to play the other course in hopes that it is better, but it’s definitely not a course I’m gonna bring a group of friends to for a out of town golf trip.
PGA caliber track
The course continues to improve with each rainfall we have. The greens are coming in nicely and were rolling fairly well. Tee to Green, the Bermuda is coming in and is lush. The rough is penal as well, so it's almost a necessity to keep your ball in the short grass
Only complaint would be that the cart attendants were not around to assist with unloading my clubs as I had to carry them from the parking lot to the bag drop. Nor did anyone ask me if I'd like to have my clubs cleaned after my round. I always try to tip at least $5 dollars, and had two 5's ready, so someone missed out.
Small gripe and I can live with that. Will definitely be keeping mountain course in my rota.
great experience
Course was in great shape. went off @ 10:45...played like a private course!. A nice design, can't say enough. Back on 13 &14 you feel like you're in another world. Quiet, removed.
Good test for any skill!
The track is great. Pick the right tees and this will be fun but challenging.
Great layout poor conditions
Was excited to play had heard great things! But wow, greens were a huge disappointment! Lots of unknown grass in the greens, very bumpy, not sure when they had been cut or top dressed. Any sand on the greens would have helped for sure. Played on a hot deal for $59.00 but truly only worth $30-40 at this point. Sorry, just being honest, course is 3-4 weeks away from being worthy of 60.00+ to play.
Driving Range
If you already struggle with putting you might have a chance here. The greens are so bad that a miss read and a miss hit could go in. The course conditions are slightly better than Durham Lakes. Forget the green fees it wasn't worth the gas money spent to play. A morning at the driving range would have been more enjoyable.
Great course
Greens were firm and rolled well. Could have used a cut, but in good shape. Mountain View is a great layout and one of the best in SW Georgia.
Nice old course
Layout is good and pretty. Too much Poa in the greens which made iputting difficult. A little more on course maintenance would be nice.
Course Overwhelmed
So the course is nice. The greens need some major love. We played on a Saturday not knowing that the Big East Women’s Tournament was playing with the Men doing a practice run. And another large group playing.
So they were short on carts.. There was no water on the course , temps in the mid 80’s ( and coolers are not allowed). And no beverage cart.
The bathroom on the back 9 was out of order. The turnaround was overwhelmed. And when our partners cart died on the 7th hole no one in the pro shop answered the phone.
So if you play on a Monday - Wednesday you are probably good.
Greens are on the struggle..
Greens are full of clover and other weeds even when freshly mowed they don’t roll true had several putt straight to heart of hole and go over a clump of weed and kick right or left. They were also pretty firm and would not hold a pitch shot unless you put a lot of spin to it. Tee boxes were also pretty bad some unmowed with 3-4 inches of weeds .. it being prime time of spring at Callaway I thought the course would have been in pristine shape… not the case at all.
I know I did played after rain but Good fairway condition But anyway all putting greens are messy some plants are there could not putts. And also didn’t cuts.so bakk s rolling speeds are so slow most of all putting green. No fun.
