Callaway Gardens boasts two different 18-hole golf courses, but it’s much more than just a golfing destination. Situated amid the southernmost foothills of the Appalachians, the resort was created in 1952 as an educational, horticultural, and recreational facility. The mission was to embrace the beauty of the natural environment and preserve the natural resources offered by the wetlands and forests. Playing either golf course you’ll be surrounded by pristine landscapes abundantly filled with native wildlife. The Mountain View Course is the longer and more challenging of the two. While it may not have as much water as the aptly named Lake View, the Mountain View golf course will truly test your shot-making abilities with narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and several tricky doglegs. One hole where you’ll encounter water is the signature par-5 sixth, where both the tee and approach shots are over water.

Mismanaged

Greens are atrocious, staff is less than thrilled to be there, range is abysmal as well as communication and coordination of range balls. Greens are poorly kept and patchy. The fairways are nice but I aceragr a 260-270 drive and I was hitting 320.

I could’ve gone to RTJ and spent less money.

Mismanagement of Wonderful course

This course use to be a shining star right out side the Columbus area. The greens are terrible, the course is hard as asphalt, and the amenities are less that stellar. The Staff all but want to be there, hardly any one smiles, no one knows what’s going on half the time, and the course leaves you feeling like you should have just stayed in town and played a 1 star location.

Dumpster Fire..

Supposedly a resort course but it is way worse than 90-95% of other courses in the area..the first tee is nicer than this place… they have lost their greens it’s an absolute rip off what they are charging a rack rate here, to think how beautiful Callaway Gardens is and they can’t maintain a course any better than this with the huge staff they have here?

Champions Grill was worth it , course heck no..

Had a really good lunch at champions grill that was the highlight.. lol.. course is in really really bad shape, huge spots on the green some 50-75% gone with only a small 15 foot circle of grass for them to change pin locations in. They are all like concrete as well, no shot will hold watched our balls land on greens all day and bounce 6-8 feet in the air and keep going, literally even landed short 5-10 yards and watched balls then hit the green go off long.. I am all for fast greens but these are like concrete.. bunkers had hardly any sand in them at all.. won’t be back here until major renovations take place.

Trash Course Not Worth Hot Deal!!

So me and a partner went to play, I booked on hot deal, picked him up was on way to course he was booking for hot deal , app crashed ! When he pulled it back up it was gone! So went to check in he was still trying , couldn’t get it so he was just gonna pay standard rate so as a senior citizen at a 4:00 tee time with 90 degrees out she charged him $71.00!!! The course is in horrible shape ! Greens are dying or dead down to dirt and the bunkers have the liners all sticking up through the place.. this course is not worth a $25.00 round if that.. and it’s considered a resort !!! I will never be back here for sure!! Check the pics of the greens and bunkers.. then restaurant was supposed to be open till 9 according to sign in cart and was closed up and locked at 5:00!!

Almost worth the green fees

Staff were amazing. Course environment was amazing. Some of the tee boxes were in bad shape. The fairways were all decent to very good. Some of the greens had some bald spots, but nothing was horrendous. We paid $69 per golfer, but I feel like $45-55 would have been more appropriate.

Course is in bad shape

This course used to host a PGA tournament…but they don’t take care of it anymore. Sandy greens with weeds make putting a tall task. If they would invest the time and money into it, it would be a 5 star course.

Greens are gone

They have all but lost the greens on Mountain View.

Got in 9 but lightning came and had to end after 9 - so not sure what back looked like.

The front was like playing Plinko.

Horrid conditions

I've not played Callaway gardens in several months. I had heard they hired a new greenskeeper that was supposed to be sprucing things up so I was hopeful that conditions would have improved since my last time out. This was not the case...

The grass on the greens is more scarce than ever with several having at least 50% or more sand content for coverage.

I know that it is still early spring and the Bermuda is just starting to come out of dormancy but a lot of the tee boxes are scarce as well.

There is a huge hole dug to the right hand side of the 15th green that has no protective barrier around it whatsoever. If you're not careful nor knew it was there you could fall in and break a leg or worse your neck.

I played on a hot deal for $45 but the course is not even worth half that. It is definitely not catered to the locals wanting to find a course to frequent. I'm sure that the main revenue stream is from resort guests and visitors from out of state.

I'm typically not the type to be a keyboard warrior but this is beyond ridiculous. How this golf course went from a tour destination in the '90s and early 2000s to what it is now is above and beyond me??????

Seriously for these green fees ?

Greens are almost solid poanna, bunkers may as well be concrete.. course not even on par with a lot municipalities courses I have played.. 5 hr round of golf as well with extremely slow play and stacked team times with no starter or Marshall on course.. this is a $35-40 with cart fee course if that.. don’t think you’re coming here for “resort” golf.. go to Auburn to RTJ instead.. this course is far past its prime , hard to believe it was once a tour destination in the 90’s..

Improving

I lived in this area several years ago. This was once a premier course, but conditions had changed and gone down over the years since the Buick Southern Open was held here. Glad to see the staff is putting effort into making it the venue it once was. Staff was amazing. I can't wait to go back when the grass has come in. We could see the efforts made on the course.
