this course is a use of a couple of hours when really board which we appreciated twice this week. it is a very cheap golf course and worth every penny so not saying anything bad except . I got asked for a drivers license both times and was told to bring it next time at check in...what possible reason could you have for that?? you can vote for the next president orf the us in CA without a drivers license but need one to play Penmar??????
Always A Good Time
Playing Penmar is always a good time. Tuesday is ladies day and you sometimes get stuck behind elderly women. We finished in about 2 hours. I golfed with a good group. Everyone played ready golf!
Don’t Come Here
I was really excited to play at Penn mar golf course in Santa Monica, California. it is a longer part three course featuring a few par fours and is a part 33 and I was excited to whip out my driver. unfortunately, when you come to this golf course, you have to pay twice just to play once. Due to this mistake, I tried numerously to reach out through golf now and to the pro shop directly to get one of the charges reversed. Very poor customer service both through golf now and through the Penmar pro shop being on hold for many minutes and getting very limited feedback they ended up not reversing the charge I had to pay twice to play once .I do not recommend coming here as you will have to pay two times just to play once.
Hostile Staff
Had a tee time, arrived 15 minutes early but forgot golf shoes, checked in, and went home to get shoes. Came back with golf shoes 5 minutes after tee time and staff had given tee time to someone else and refused to give us an alternate tee time. When I said ‘come on man we’re five minutes late’ staff responded rudely, turned his back to me and refused to engage further. Would not recommend this course.
pace of play
groups of 5. took 40 mins to finish the first 2 holes.
nobody waves on the Par 3’s so back up of 2-3 groups waiting to tee up
20 minute wait each whole on the weekends!
OK, yesterday was July 4 and also a World Cup match going on in the golf course Restaurant, so the place was jampacked. However, that’s no excuse for the golf course to be 20 to 30 minutes each whole waiting especially holds 34 and five…. It opens up on the seventh hole.
Was not fun! When you complete this course in two hours maximum 2 1/2 it’s worth it… During the week off peak hours I would stay away from the weekend unless you can start very early.
Hit or Miss
A gem of a muni. 9 hole executive course with 3 par 3’s and 6 par 4’s allows you to use every club in your bag. It also has great off course bar restaurant and event space to hang out pre / post round. The biggest draw back is that the course allows you to book 5 sums and lately there’s even been some 6 sums out there slowing the pace of play to a brutal grinding halt. Pace is basically hit or miss, best bet is to get there before 10am or after 5pm (obviously only applies to summer twilight.) if not for the 5 sums the course is usually laid back fun round.
1st Time Playing Course
Overall fair to good experience. Good layout and open fields.
One of the players that joined our round yesterday was scratched on the leg by a squirrel. Didn’t think much of it initially but was more concerned when we saw blood and that it happened to a player who was 78 years old. The squirrel was trying to get to the snack that he was eating.
Also would recommend the removal of the broken tees bear the tee box. There are a lot.
Beats going to the driving range!
You can pay $22 for a bucket of large golf balls or go to Penmar for $19 and hit all of your clubs! Plus real time chipping and putting.
Greens still recovering
Greens were still recovering from seeding / sand..
Greens were sand
They should give a larger discount for a round if all of the greens are covered in sand and there’s no way to putt
Perfect
Perfect round on a perfect Monday at a consistently well maintained course.
Great location
The concessionaire did a great job maximizing the opportunity of the club house and community building experience. They do a nice job at keeping the course maintained and better than most city courses.
