Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
About
Carved from acres of wooded countryside in Woodstock, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club takes advantage of the rolling green hills. The dramatic elevation changes make it difficult to find an even lie anywhere on the course. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, incorporated a variety of challenges that makes each hole unique including a deft smattering of sand bunkers. The golf course depends as heavily on course management and strategy as it does on shot-making skills. It is a challenge to say the least, but it's fair. There are also four sets of tees that make it more approachable. One of the most memorable holes is the fifth. This par 5 presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity that will make you think. Towne Lake Hills G.C. boasts consistently good course conditions and idyllic scenery that make the round even more enjoyable.

The best shot of my life. My first shot on hole 11. 308 yard par 4. Photo submitted by u000007718501 on 11/12/2013
Beautiful course.
All staff friendly. Challenging course, even the 18th hole. Good price for a senior. We will be back. The pro shop, the starter, food cart lady, the Marshall, who came around checking on us, all were great.
Nice course but first cut off the fairways is way too long
Good course to play with a variety of different holes and distance on most of the course. Not the best if you are looking for flat lies in the fairways and the first cut of rough is way to long and very unforgiving. If you roll off the fairways or land in the rough it’s hard to find your ball let alone have a decent chance of hitting the green.
Broken windscreen on the cart should be removed and replaced as it looks bad and rattled all the time.
Great course, great value - challenging for beginners
Course was in great shape including very well-kept greens. Play was great and the course lives up the "Hills" part of the name, lots of contour to it. We played the blue tees (middle) and we switched to the white tees (front) on the back 9 based on how long the holes are. Talked to the course marshal and he said now we know we should have started on the white tees until we've played the course a few times.
As someone who still considers themselves a beginner, this was a tough course. It's a long course, so if you're not good on the fairway, it's a lot of swinging. Also, there are a handful of holes that start with pretty long forced carriers over water or ravines. I lost a few balls trying to make them before just dropping a ball where my partner's tee shot landed since he could carry them but I couldn't.
From the pro shop to the course marshal to the staff at the Tavern - great service all around. Will definitely be back.
Great value for the price
It was my first time at the course. The starter was very friendly and put my son and me with a couple of the course regulars. Our playing partners were very nice and helpful with aim spots on each hole. It made for a very enjoyable round. It was a hot day, but that's Atlanta area in the summer.
Do not come as a single
Second time here in 18 months and I can’t do it again. I checked in at the desk and was told to check in with the starter next. I checked in with the starter and he was visibly confused why I was checking in with him early. I needed a cart to get the range and he told me to check in with the cart attendant. I walk to the cart attendant and he looks at me even more confused and tells me there aren’t carts. I explain I just want to get the range and they can figure out carts. The attendant asks me my tee time and says he will be back. I had to call the pro shop to get picked up. Then I get back to the starter and he gives me a key. I load my bag and pull back up for him to make me unloaded my bag and get in with a cart to complete a threesome of non English speaking golfers. No one has teed off in front of us for at least 15 minutes so it’s wide open. He lets us go with 2 groups behind us. I have zero problem with being grouped with folks that don’t speak the language. It’s the 21st century and I can use google translate so we had a great time, but EVERYONE outside of America plays strict rules of golf with it being more an experience than just a round of golf at a muni. The starter put us out first. Zero course management from the starter. It was almost 3 hours by the time we got done with the front, I just quit as we were starting to get hit into by the group behind. The pace of play the first trip here was awful at 6 hours and 18 months later it’s gotten worse. I get that we are GA on a weekend and the course will be packed, but to have zero clue about the golfers coming through and do absolutely zero to maintain pace outside of asking me to do their job is not the experience I signed up for on a $65 twilight round. Save your money or take the drive to Lake Arrowhead.
Still my favorite
Staff friendliness and helpfulness remain high. This is one of the few courses that I regularly see staff out on the course making sure everything is going well. I’m also pleased with the condition of the course overall, especially the greens.
Interesting Layout but Needs Some Work
First the positives - 1) greens were in pretty good condition. 2) the range balls were fairly new 3) the holes were pretty interesting layout which required some target play. 4) Starter was nice. Improvements - 1) Tee boxes and fairways and carts need some work - just needs some additional TLC and updating. 2) tee times need to be better scheduled - backed up throughout course. If get a good deal at the course, could be worth playing once.
Great Layout! Friendly Greens
Staff is organized and the course is always in great shape.
Solid Course
Towne Lake is a solid metro Atlanta course. It challenges your course management and distance control. However, the pace of play can back up. The marshals are typically good for encouraging slow play to pick up pace.
Unbelievably bad experience at this facility!
Unbelievably bad experience at this facility. Just for perspectives. I’ve been an avid golfer for the last 6 years, playing hundreds of rounds across dozens of courses in different states and countries, and I have never had an experience like this.
So here is what happened:
My 9 year old son and I live out of state, but we were in GA for the Braves games. I booked at Towne Lake Hills online as a single for a Saturday afternoon tee time. The plan was that I was going to play and my son would ride in the cart with me. When we checked in, I was told that they did not allow riders on the weekend because of not having enough carts….. there were at least 15 unclaimed carts in the cart prep area. I asked if I could pay a rider fee and was told no. I asked if this policy was posted online when I booked and was told that it was not. I asked how I was supposed to know this and was not given an answer. I asked about getting my tee time deposit back and was told to call the online booking company (golf now). I asked to speak to the manager, and I was told that the 21 year old kid that I was speaking to was the manager. So I had no other choice but to leave. It’s now too late to get a tee time anywhere else in the Atlanta area.
This was the most absurd experience I’ve ever had a at golf course
Great experience
Our club was closed; so we used the golf now app to find a place to play. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and condition of the course. We missed the warm up because we didn’t know where to get the balls. Don’t worry when the practice putting green is not in good shape. The fairways and greens were in great shape and the starter and marshal were present and got things off to a good start. My cart didn’t have much in terms of braking power, but the engine drag was a sufficient help in stopping. The sand was a bit sparse in the bunkers and it’s a very hilly undulating course. It was a challenging but fun day. They put two guys with us and both Fred (a regular at Town Hills) and Leroy (from Bradshaw) were fun to play with. A good time was had by all. Thanks Town Hills staff.
Fun Course, Good Condition
Well maintained, greens were fast even though they still had some sand. Fairways in good shape.
-Poor Layout
Tee boxes were in poor condition. Although the greens were in very good condition they were slow. The front nine has some really poorly designed holes.

Yes, the employees there are not good. Customers are often treated like we should be catering to the employees. Seems like the customers are a burden.
