Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
About
Carved from acres of wooded countryside in Woodstock, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club takes advantage of the rolling green hills. The dramatic elevation changes make it difficult to find an even lie anywhere on the course. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, incorporated a variety of challenges that makes each hole unique including a deft smattering of sand bunkers. The golf course depends as heavily on course management and strategy as it does on shot-making skills. It is a challenge to say the least, but it's fair. There are also four sets of tees that make it more approachable. One of the most memorable holes is the fifth. This par 5 presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity that will make you think. Towne Lake Hills G.C. boasts consistently good course conditions and idyllic scenery that make the round even more enjoyable.

The best shot of my life. My first shot on hole 11. 308 yard par 4. Photo submitted by u000007718501 on 11/12/2013
Difficult and Could Use Some Updating
It feels old, run down, and missing a few basics compared to a lot of other courses in the same basic price point. Fairway distances are not marked well (with no GPS in the cart either), gas carts are loud and very basic without even a card indicating where the pin position is for the day (the Ranger came by and didn't know the day's pin placement either), no ball washers on the course until about the 16th hole, no water on the course or cart girl/guy, pro shop looks like it was last renovated in 1984. The course itself has a lot of blind shots and very hilly. Also, a lot of hazards. I played it last a number of years ago and remember it being much nicer.
Good condition after aeration
I was surprised how good the greens were only one week after aeration. The fairways were nice. Bunkers good. One exception. Number 14 blue tee box is pure dirt. The green is also a bit raggedy. Otherwise, I was happy with course conditions. The greens were a little slow. Four stars.
Bad course conditions and staff is terrible
Greens were hit or miss, some were ok and some were awful. For the money you can definitely play somewhere better. Especially when the staff is so rude. The girls up front were nice but everyone else is awful. I personally won’t be going back as there are much much better options around for the price. Wish I could upload pictures here to show how bad the greens are. Fairways also had huge spots of dirt or rocks. I’m not a picky golfer but for that price and how rude they are, definitely need a review.
Good Value But Expected More
Last minute booking.
If you like dog legs, this the course for you.
Very disappointed with the quality of the greens. Played muni courses with much, much better greens.
Fairways were good. Lots of undulation.
Enjoyed the layout. Course winds though a very nice community which is hidden by the trees. Fairways are wide enough not to be punishing. A few blind shots which was tough for a first timer. Course planner helped but had no info or detail.
This course would greatly benefit for having GPS in carts to help with pace of play. Course marshals said 5+ hours is the norm. We waited several minutes every shot. If you want a quick round on a weekend, don't play here.
Would play again without hesitation. But some tweaks would make for a better experience.
Town Lake golf
The course was pretty and somewhat difficult with tight fairways on the front nine and quick greens that were unpredictable. Lots of hills and elevation changes made for some fun and problems. Overall it was just ok. Probably won’t play there often as I am a member elsewhere but it was a fun change of pace.
Great Course
Played here for the first time on Labor Day. They were fully booked but we still played 18 in 4.5 hours. Layout is fun and free course books helped with any lack of course knowledge. Conditions were above average for the price. Staff was very friendly and helpful, nicest ranger I’ve encountered in a long time. Overall, we felt relaxed and supported throughout the round. The staff all seemed focused on making the day enjoyable for all. All of this lead to the two of us playing some of our best golf of the year, one of those memorable rounds when everything seems to be clicking and it was definitely aided by the atmosphere and the course. Only criticism would be on the cart paths being a little rough and the carts being a little dated. Will be making this a regular stop.
Save your money
My name isn’t “hey you”. Please let the F&B staff know that if they don’t know a patrons name, to refer to us as “Sir/ma’am”, to get our attention, especially your guests. 5 1/2 round, Dirty cart that almost didn’t make it around, cracked range balls, snarky staff and members. It’s not the number of players that’s the issue. It’s not knowing how to run a golf facility. $75 plus $10 range balls. This is management either not knowing what they are doing, or just not caring. As for the course, “Casual grass” on tees, fairways, and greens.. Missed fairway = 3” rough or deep woods down a hill. Weird layout with a lot of blind tee shots. Bring a dozen if you choose to waste your money here. Thumbs down.
Members need to have respect for other patrons.
There were two foursomes that were holding up everyone all day. I learned they were members and they didn’t care to pick up the pace and were holding up everyone behind them. Due to them, we were only able to complete 15 holes in 4 hours.
Towne Lake
I have played this course many times and it never disappoints! There are some homes that you can let the big driver eat but there are many times that the course requires accurate shots. Good course for the value!
Good course and good value
This was the third time we’ve played at Town Lake Hills and the round was fast paced and conditions were very good. Look forward to returning.
Ok Not Bad
Ok To Good Some parts Nice. Alot of the greens need attention.. But It has been dry and hot. Some are like putting on concrete. lol
Good for the most part. Staff mostly cool.
Big Mistake
Course was in horrible shape. Half the Greens and Tee Boxes were lost. It’s an $80.00 round, definitely not worth the money.
