The Ocean Course is one of two championship courses at Kona Country Club. As its name implies, this course has an oceanfront location with views of the surrounding mountains that are home to its sister course, the Mountain Course. The Ocean Course provides an easier, but no less enjoyable round than its sibling. The layout features wide-open fairways and numerous strategically placed sand bunkers. The turquoise waters and black lava outcroppings provide natural hazards. The signature holes are the third and 12th, but one of the most memorable is the 13th hole where during November through March, you can catch a glimpse of a humpback whale. While both Kona C.C. golf courses provide a variety of challenges, the Ocean Course is a gentle, more player-friendly option that still features the same stunning views as the Mountain Course.

Good Value

We have now played this course 3 times and we enjoyed it more each time. Greens are tricky, super wide fairways, holes along the ocean are spectacular. Lots of variety in hole shapes with twists and doglegs, but really no blind shots. Too bad the restaurant had poor service and inconsistent quality of food because it has a great view of the ocean.

Super course and layout. Good practice areas. Uber grainy greens

This is really the key to playing this course. Very fast downgrain.

Slow into the grain If you don’t try to figure this out you will struggle putting sll day

Course and greens were in great shape. Staff was very friendly and eager to assist. Green can be tricky to read so left many strokes on the course. Will be back to aquire more course knowledge

Poor experience for the money

The staff was great. The course and views are nice (some not so great tee boxes/greens but overall playable).

Note for the club -- The reason for a less than stellar review is that there is no water on the course and no food available. We have played this course two years in a row and had the same experience. It seems to make sense to have some decent food available (for purchase) at the turn and water available for the price of the round. The cart said said they run out of food everyday and that seems like something you could easily correct. There is no take out provided at all at the restaurant and the vending machines are hit or miss.

Wonderful Course

This is the 2nd time playing this course during my visit. Each time I visit I play this course. It's a great course, several holes can be challenging, several holes are along the ocean and beautiful. Will play next time I am on the Big Island.

Punched Greens, Unimaginative Layout

Greens and many fairways were in rough shape, looks like they were recently punched and also overgrown. Wide fairways with nothing much to hit over, I just didn’t find the course to be very creative given the beautiful location. Two holes along the ocean but the ocean itself was never really in play, just along the side of a couple straight-on Par 3’s.

Can't Beat the Scenery

You should play this course just for the views. The fairways are wide. The rough is treacherous. Mostly the bunkers do not come into play.
