MCC 11/5
The course was in great shape. Lies in the fairway were nice. The rough was a little difficult to find your ball in, but not unplayable. The greens were somewhat hard and fast, but rolled true. Probably running around 12. Played with two strangers. Had a great time! Too bad they don't offer better rates for nonresidents.
Great course
Fun course in great condition. Undulating fast greens are difficult to score well on despite being in excellent condition. Scenic challenging layout, very enjoyable round.
interesting layout
played here for the first time. interesting layout with 2 back to back par 5's on each side. Quite a scenic course.
Interesting layout!
Back-to-back par 5s on both the front and back, short par 3s (and a longer one), out-and-back layout, multiple road (highway!) crossings. This is an old school layout that is in fairly good shape (except for the greens--slow and not putting true). Fun to play if you are in the area, but not worth a long drive to get there. Just watch the road crossings, the cars don't slow down for golfers!
Unfriendly
Very unfriendly staffs and none smiling people walking around. Met two foursome in front of us and they wouldn't let us play through. End up leaving without playing 4 holes. Mention this to the proshop and they couldn't do anything for us. The course layout seem fun to play but the people there make me not to come back there.
Great New England Course (Old-School)
The course is in great shape. I'm a member and would prefer people not come out to keep the place to myself but you're doing yourself a disservice to play at: Topstone, Blackledge, Tallwood, Rolling Meadows, Tunxis, Blue Fox, Tower Ridge, Lyman, and many other public courses in the central ct valley. They added irrigation and drainage to many parts of the course this year - the course improves every year. The greens have been consistently fast but rolling nicely, the tees and fairways are beautiful, and the rough can be very tough on days when it isn't cut. This course is very walkable (no 400 yard paths from green to tee), and offers a challenge to all levels of golfers. Greens are generally pretty large with some steep undulations (really flag dependent).
The only thing that needs some work are the bunkers. Some are beautiful and some are a little rocky/ hardpacked.
The staff is very friendly. Weekends there is a cart girl stationed at the 5/13 tee. 9th hole stand offers beer and food (cheese dogs are awesome if you like to eat while you play). Also there is a bar/ cafe with outdoor seating and great salads/ burgers/ beer in the clubhouse.
This place deserves more love.
A Pleasure
MCC is always a pleasure to play and this was no exception. The course was is great shape and the greens were smooth and true even though they were airrated nine days prior.
aerated greens
Nice layout. Sand clean, raked. Pace was extremely slow. Was not pleased with aerated greens and several greens were hairy. Fairways were OK. Lots of construction on about 4/5 holes. Gorgeous day made day more pallatible. Started 12:15, finished 4:45. Seemed longer. I would play again but not when aeration took place. They call them "green fees" because lots go into keeping greens in good condition.. Shot 84 with few extra for holes.
Best near Hartford (east of the river)
I'm a member here so maybe I'm biased but this course deserves a 2014 review. Place is in great shape, the greenskeeper really knows his stuff.
MCC is an old school walkable New England design with lots of elevation changes. Good greens that can be quick but never super fast, and have lots of contours. Fairways are wide, and the course can play short for long hitters but scoring is still tough.
Tallwood, Blackledge, topstone, Tunxis, Gillette ridge, twin hills, and the rest of the dumps in this area fall well short in comparison. Top 10 public course in the state no doubt.
Great Golf Course that's Open to Public
Let me start off by saying the view of this Golf Course is amazing. They are also open to the public, but it does not look like one you expect to be open to the public. It is much better! Also I came hear during October and found out that they actually have rooms that can hold up to 200 people for a banquet. All of the people working at the golf course were also very kind and helpful. I will definitely be going there again.
Great Golf Course that's Open to Public
I really like this Country Club. The green was excellent with very nice views of the lake. Also I loved that this golf course is open to the public. You don't usually find this quality that's open to the public. I recommend this to everyone. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a golf course. I also went here during September, and they have a banquet hall so that you can have party's there to.
Good condition for November.
After a frost delay, this course did not disappoint. The greens are in remarkable shape for November. The rest of the course was in good or better condition, except for one temporary tee box. Manchester CC is not the exact course I remember from the late 70's. Many trees are removed near the greens, which takes away some of the challenge I remember. The course as is, is well designed and still challenging with elevation changes, false fronts, and undulating greens.
The course is well maintained and has some challenging holes!
This was the first time playing here, I will play here again. I was put in with other GolfNow players and we had a good time on a beautiful course.
One of the best Muni's in Hartford County
I've played at Manchester over 40 times in the past two years and find this course just great. As a weekday player I almost always had the tee time I wanted and always finished 18 holes under 4 1/4 hours. It helps to have a ranger always roaming the course to keep play moving. Most days I am met in the parking lot by the bag boy who places my bag on the cart, verifies my tee time and drives me to the pro shop and first tee. I once lost a head cover and the cart boy brought it to me before I finished my first beer. And, did I say it is a public, town course?
The course has always been in great condition and even when Mother Nature damages it extensively, the staff is immediately repairing the damage. This season the par three 8th tee was completely redone and by next spring the 12th hole tee will be redone as well.
The fairways are wide, the 1st cut of rough is low and the trees lining the fairways have their lower branches trimmed up high. There are very few places to lose your ball unless you hook or slice big time. There are several ponds on the course and only one (the 1st hole) is of concern. There is also a very narrow brook on 4 holes but it is so narrow balls just hop over it. The greens are medium sized and in very good shape although the majority are two-tier or sloped. Pin placement is indicated by the flag color: red, white or blue.
The course has 4 long par 5's (all just over 500 yds) that are back-to-back on each nine. Most holes are a challenge but fair. Holes 1-4 and 14-18 are flat and this is where the par 5's are placed. The other nine holes are hilly with 5 doglegs and 3 of the 4 par 3's,
MCC is user friendly to short hitters like us seniors and women love it too as can be seen by the large number of women players enjoying the course.
There are only 3 negative things I can write about and they are not significant problems: 1) when playing nine holes you almost always start at #1 and the trek back to the clubhouse is very long, as the 9th hole is out in the boonies. So when playing only 9, take a cart. 2) the course is bisected by a town road that you need to cross 4 times. Both crossing have warning signs posted to warn motorists. One crossing is wide open but the other isn't but locals will stop for golfers crossing and mirrors help see traffic. I've never had any close call in 2 years. 3) the driving range requires a cart or car to reach but it has a sizable range and a sand trap/green to practice on. Another, large putting green is near the clubhouse.
Lastly, the restaurant/bar is absolutely fantastic. The service is good and the food incredibly great and inexpensive as witness the many guests who stop just to eat.
Please try MCC. You'll enjoy it.
Hidden Gem
This was a great find. I had never even heard of Manchester C.C. until I had come across it on Golf Now Hot Deals. It's a beautiful course from tee to green on every hole.Well maintained and manicured. Very open and spacious yet challenging with it's smaller greens. I can't wait to play there again.
Nice for the discount price
Course in decent shape based on the amount of play. Greens decent....some fairways needing TLC, but generally OK. Thanks to a very helpful and friendly starter!
Well maintained
This was my first time playing this course and I would definitely play here again. If you're a big hitter def play the back tees, the course is not super long. Greens were in excellent shape
Beautiful Course, Bad Day To Go
All the greens were being aerated. We could only play 9. There should have been a disclaimer offered by the course or Golfnow, as we would not have spent our afternoon on bumpy, sandy greens with holes in them. While they were good enough to let us apply 9 of the holes to a different day, it is getting late in the season and they would have done well to offer it as a full round or extend it until next season. Don't offer deals on days when no one should be on the course.
