PrairieView Golf Club
About
Owned and operated by the Byron Forest Preserve District, Prairieview Golf Course sits on a scenic stretch of land that overlooks the Rock River. The layout will test different skills with plenty of variety, offering both open, links-style holes and tight, tree-lined holes. The design takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating the varying elevations into the large and undulating greens. The breaks can make the greens hard to read and they're made even more challenging by more than 60 bunkers strategically places along the borders. There are also water hazards in the form of ponds and a meandering stream that come into play on five holes. In addition to the course, there is also a 15-acre practice facility with a driving range, two putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with two bunkers.

Well hidden diamond in the rough
PrairieView is a great course. Exciting layout, well maintained, 4 sets of tees to create as much of a challenge you are wanting to take on. Played at 10:20 on a Thursday. Never saw another human being within 500 yards at any time during the day. Threw 6 balls into bunkers or around the greens and my hands were raw by the end of the day for hitting so many shots. Done with 18 holes in 3 hours.
Fun course, good staff
Course has a great layout. Played a bit narrow and short, but I think they pulled the two longer tee positions for end of season. Conditions were good for mid November other than cold and wind which is a given for IL. Greens ran quick and were a bit tricky to read, but overall in very good condition. Prices were very reasonable, partially thanks to Golf Now’s discounts, but even regular rate is reasonable for the value in the course. Bar staff was very friendly and accommodating. If I wasn’t so far from Rockford I’d definitely try to play this course again every year.
PrairieView
Played early October in the early morning. For the price and amenities, this is one of the best bargains in IL golf. Course is maintained really well, has gps carts. Only reason for a 4 star is the lack of a driving range for practice/warmup. There are 3 putting/chipping greens.
What an amazing course!
Don’t come here cause you will ruin it. I want it all to my self . For real its a beautiful well kept course with amazing views and a nuclear power plant in the back ground.
Very hard ground tees and fairways my wife hurt her shoulder wrists no use of water pretty sad won't be back course has gone downhill bad very sad
This is a beautiful course during the summer but during the fall it gets even better! Great place to play!
Great Course
Staff is great, pace was slow but everything else was great
Friday the 13th
This course is beautiful and that’s not giving it credit.
The first 9 were great, back 9 somehow ended up with a 2 some in front of us that doubled our pace of play. Lost any rhythm we had and just watched as they took 8 shots to get to the green on each hole. Very painful
